People will get crazy flicks and show off insane aim in deathmatch, then whiff and constantly fuck up in ranked, because there's more pressure there. Yeah you get more opportunities for kills in deathmatch, but so does everyone else. That's not really the point.
I think in ranked you are kinda scared about losing and miss your shots in ranked but in deathmatch no ranked pressure and just go godly mode in my opinion, sir.
I think this video brings up a really important point that I'd like to elaborate on, which is that aim, especially the better your aim is, is mostly mental. Your confidence, anxiety level, and your aiming habits. It's very important to keep a stable mental to keep your aim consistent. For example, if you go in a deathmatch, and you whiff two easy shots in a row, you'll probably lift your head to the sky, scrunch your eyes, and take an inhale of pure, but brewing, anger. What you're doing in that moment, without even thinking or saying a word, is saying something like "Wow, I am so bad, I can't aim," etc. This will reduce your confidence, and in turn, your focus. One thing I've found out playing this game, at least in my experience, is that confidence is synonymous with first shot accuracy; the lower your confidence, the lower your FSA and the higher chance you will crouch spray. This is why you see people like Aproto just smoothly tap heads all the time, because he's clear-headed, focused, and confident, so he retains his good aim habits (crosshair placement, not shooting until on the head), his focus, etc. By the same token, this may also be the reason why you see mechanical-god aimers like Aproto, TenZ, etc. have bad aim games, because the aiming in this game is extremely punishing, especially for not hitting your first shot, and the mental pileup that can happen over the course of two or three rounds can fuck you up for the entire game. Simply by reacting negatively to a whiff, you are simultaneously telling yourself you're bad at aiming, lowering your confidence, clouding your focus and your judgement, and decreasing your first shot accuracy. It's important to create a plan / mindset for yourself to stick to every day so that you can keep your confidence, focus, and therefore aim stable and consistent perpetually.
Absolutely true. Keeping your mental clean from these kinds of thoughts is extremely hard. Learning how to navigate your own mental habits is half the battle

I've recently been playing a warmup game in unranked before I play como instead of jumping from dm warmup to comp and I feel it helps remove a lot of pressure I feel playing in comp
Yes this video makes so much sense when you play in a deathmatch there is no problem if you die and lose but if you lose in comp you are scared of losing your rank which you worked hard on. This is a problem unless your trying to go esports your main objective in any game should be to have fun and not win
When I first started playing Valorant I would only play deathmatch and when I started normal games my score was drastically worse. There's also the timer that pressures you into making questionable plays, along with teammate pressure
I am iron and can beat silver -gold players in unrated. They called me an smurf.first half I played really well but in second half I got tilted and played like a real iron
That actually makes sense. When I’m in DM I don’t have a care in the world and when I’m playing ranked I’m constantly thinking about what I can do right and also what I can do wrong
When i play with someone that is mad at you when you get headshotted trough the smoke then i will play really behind, the he getsad again because i cant clutch 1v4 Always know that your teamates do everythint they can to win, it does not help to bead at them if they die
ah finally they made the *ultimate* tips and tricks video. fr man THIS i can relate to 100% of this as a reyna instalocker (as im not a fan of utils) and going from 56/14/7 in silver elo to 8/23/4 in gold elos
Totally understand that. I’m the highest ranked among my friend group and only play comp with them, so there’s this pressure always telling me that “You need to Top Frag and carry” instead of just playing my best
One thing I feel like has been helping is to play DM exactly how you play in ranked. Clearing angles, doing diligence with your crosshair placement and movement, etc etc. The key is to approach both modes similarly and play similarly so there can be as much skills transference as possible. At the same time, you have gotta play with some balls in ranked. I was an controller main but now transitioned into Initiator (currently main Breach) as he allowed me to be proactive and play with aggression.
This is right on the money. The minute you worry about your aim, your rank, even winning a match, that’s the second your confidence and focus goes down. Go into matches thinking you’re better than every single person simply because you’re confident in your shot. That’s it.
Well no you do get bullet refill after a kill but most bullet you use per kill is 8 and in ranked especially in lower rank people have a bad habit to reload after every shot i have been there where i got a kill had 20 bullet and reloaded while entering site while another enemy peek coudnt fight him due to reloading but now i reload behind cover and dont die like that
I agree with most of what you've said about confidence, crouch spraying, and comp vs deathmatch. I do want to point out that in deathmatch your enemies are also uncoordinated (so not about to double swing you on purpose), fighting each other (so worried about targets besides yourself), and may also be playing in ways that are counterproductive. Since lots of people use DM to warm up, its possible that DM players are playing without sound, with different weapons, or even brashly over-peeking everything in order to train their aim. DM kills can be easier, because some people aren't trying to take easy, winnable fights, but hard ones so that they can get better.
I for myself have a good counter to this and it's pretty simple: just don't care about your rank or the outcome of the game. See every ranked game as a stage to practice or implement certain mechanics or skills. rather than your goal being to rank up have it be to master the fundamental skills that are in the game. when you change your goal from ranking up to mastery, you'll be playing a completely different game. not to say that it doesn't require effort to get into this mindset.
This is too true for me, the first round actually decides so much, and sometimes when you’re playing with friends and they make jokes when you miss a shot, it doesn’t help your mentality, I have been in so many situations here I make laugh along but actually continually doing worse because my mentality keeps getting worse.
this observation is definitely universal players who are new and actively trying to play fighting games at a more competent level often complain about how things they practice and can execute with regularlity against a bot in the training room are much, much harder to execute on another actual player. confidence drops, hands hesitate, and thus combos get dropped and setups get floundered. and this continues until the player's mindset changes, when they fear the opponent less and gain confidence in their practiced skills i sort of noticed this intuitively when i play valorant or league and i think ive pseudo-confirmed it by making ample use of the mute functions in those games. other players are a constant source of stress and distraction, even from well-meaning players. recognizing your current limits and adjusting them by muting people who distract and stress you out works wonders. im top fragging with greater regularity without even noticing because im thinking more about the match and what's going wrong and less about my team mates and what they think of me
I think that it also helps to actively think about things that you want to change, in this context think about tapping and being ready to shoot and not spraying when you shouldn't
I'm trash for both deathmatch and ranked even though I have all good enough gears except kinda unstable internet, but this video is really good I think. I like the way how he explains the pressure/mindset is important in gaming.
I have realised when i am serious and very focused i get tilted easily when i mess up and start doubting myself. But when i am not serious i dont get tilted so my mind is always calm and i make better decisions and become aware of my mistakes which makes me play better.
It makes a lot of sense, because I was on my silver 3 rankup game last night, and I was matched against 3 plats which made me think about how I normally win my duels against them in deathmatch, so I guess it is a big confidence thing for me
people are relaxed in deathmatch, therefore not folding under pressure. But in ranked, people want the win so bad it affects every other part of their gameplay
Here's a tip that I use: in games keep your calm and don't spray that much, aim for the head and don't lose your cool most players are nervous when it comes to ranked games like me, so it's important that don't get nervous. If you're whiffing and in a slump try playing passive, and don't be toxic. That is all
Your vids have helped me perform better not just with aim but with mindset. Finally got out of Iron and played in Bronze this Act. Radiant content from this guy.
idk sometimes in deathmatch, there are times where your spawn rate is fucked. like after you spawn, someone will one tap you from behind then when you spawn again, someone swings close at you even though they were not in the map near you. then when you lead the leaderboard, you’re the one farming for people not engaging duels at you. you just catch them off guard. that’s why when i play comp, i’m already tilted. it’s either because you were not able to warm up properly because people keep being rats in dm or you rarely had aim duels in dm but you’re still on top of it like literally nothing’s warmed up.
Personal Experience: I was grinding comp, losing everymatch while using reyna, my main agent, every solo queue. Then my friend joined and reyna got instalocked, so I was stuck deciding what to pick and the game auto locked kill joy for me. I had only played KJ once before in unrated. But when Im playing with friends Im in a goofy mode and all I care about is making my friends laugh. That match I was the team mvp with no clue on how to use KJ, I knew no lineups or anything yet I used the abilities like a KJ main. I knew how to place the nades, when to place the nades, the turret, the bots and all, only because i wasnt worried about dying
I honestly just think it's the fact that you respawn in dm, so it doesn't matter if you die, whereas in comp you know the round is over for you when you die, so you get all tense and timid.
the main thing is to remember this is just a game, so what will happen to your actual life if you lose a virtual rank? what will actually happen to you irl if you keep whiffing and play bad? I personally keep this mindset and am able to succesfully transfer my one taps in dms to unrated. (im not lvl 20)
I don't know why people take this game so seriously. They act like having a high rank in Val is gonna make them relevant in the real world... but instead, they become trash human beings with a trash ranking.
bro you are not even gonna believe this but your comment kindof made me think that i was doing it wrong by taking this game so seriously. knowing unknowingly your comment was a eye opener for me . thanks mate
There is a small chance that you can become relevant by being really good at a game, for example pro players/good streamers. So I think a lot of people take that to heart since almost everyone wants to be relevant and now they think theyre the next TenZ shroud etc
When Val first came out I was obsessed with the game and performing well in it. Then I realized that the game has absolutely nothing to do with my life.
you're right, I mostly play reyna/sage and when we're winning or I had a good day, I usually breeze through the sites but when we have lost the fisrt 5-6 rounds, my confidence goes down and as reyna I tend to play in the back because I'm scared of potentially losing the gunfights I get myself into.
It's literally because of utility, getting blinded, having to shoot the blind, smokes, all that distracts you, plus in tdm you get free heals after killing a person and everyone in tdm doesn't crouch, therefore it's easier getting kills without having to worry about being blinded or having utility used on you.
There's a lot of other factors though. Positioning gamesense teamwork and ability use all affect your ability to frag in comp and they don't come into play in deathmatch.
There's also the fact that you feel pressured by your team mates because "If I miss this shot/I don't do this play we'll lose and I'll be the reason" I always think like this (Not okay to do so) and I feel bad If I'm the reason we're losing. Like that clip of that dude playing football/soccer, He had 1 chance to make that shot and he missed it, and now he feels responsible (probably) for their teams demise. Taking responsibility is good but not when it slows you down along with your team mates. Like if you lose a minor round, like a 12-0 scenario, you don't feel as bad but you're going to take responsibility if it's your fault.
My friends always create a competition between me a my friend as we are the best players (as in who can get the most frags ,we both play duelists btw) and the pressure is insane I do so much better when I solo queue.
In ranked I always have been worrying about my rank and lose WAY more of my comp games than my unrated games that I win SOOO much more And I top frag so much more in my unrated games because I never think of being scared to lose because even if I did my rank wouldn’t go down
As with many others in the comments, I also took a break from Ranked with my team to play Unrateds so we could practice tactics and utility. Been stomping teams 13 - 5 and dropping 30 bombs as a Bronze 1 using an agent I'm not used to (KAY/O, and I'm a Cypher main). I think another bit of advice that can be learned from this experience is knowing how your enemies tick and putting yourself in their shoes. If they're anything like me, they'd be scared of losing RR and are probably playing very safe. The enemy Sage died with the Spike alone on B while the rest are A, there are no comms, we can pick them apart. Being able to reassure yourself that you and your team are able to analyze and overcome any situation through brains and strats gives a HUGE confidence boost. Hope that helps!
would be great if there's an option to queue for a game that is randomly either unranked or competitive so you will never know when to take it serious or not haha
i just really don't play unrated because there's a lot of people of higher elos practicing there and i have no window to improve, i got a 14 day ranked ban like a month ago and on those 14 day i ran into diamond and immortal premades and it was pure pain
i always panic as soon as i see someone in ranked and begin to shoot right away no matter where my crosshair is 😭 bad habit but it’ll probably get better the more i play
in a match, they know where you will be and be waiting for you and the typical play out, in dm often get free kills from instant spawn in face or seeing exact where abouts on map and no abilitys to worry about and you can hear their steps unlike in ranked where cant hear them over the screaming kids on voice
The advice that I always give to myself.
Have fun and trust your aim and yourself. Don't think about your rank. All that matters is that you JUST HAVING FUN. If you are not having fun, then it's not worth playing the game anymore.

I have this problem and I noticed more when I play in unrated I just became a demon

When i play with someone that is mad at you when you get headshotted trough the smoke then i will play really behind, the he getsad again because i cant clutch 1v4
Always know that your teamates do everythint they can to win, it does not help to bead at them if they die
ah finally they made the *ultimate* tips and tricks video. fr man THIS
i can relate to 100% of this
as a reyna instalocker (as im not a fan of utils) and going from 56/14/7 in silver elo to 8/23/4 in gold elos
*gets one tapped from behind*
@@cool-ep5cu shit happened lol
This is right on the money. The minute you worry about your aim, your rank, even winning a match, that’s the second your confidence and focus goes down. Go into matches thinking you’re better than every single person simply because you’re confident in your shot. That’s it.
This is pretty true, I played a competitive game by accident thinking it was unrated and popped off but when I'm actually in a competitive game i suck
"Why everyone is a DEMON in Deathmatch"
Me: Infinite bullets go brrr.
DM kills can be easier, because some people aren't trying to take easy, winnable fights, but hard ones so that they can get better.
your channel is da best man I dont know how much tips I have gained from you and that has improved my overall gameplay.
This is too true for me, the first round actually decides so much, and sometimes when you’re playing with friends and they make jokes when you miss a shot, it doesn’t help your mentality, I have been in so many situations here I make laugh along but actually continually doing worse because my mentality keeps getting worse.
this observation is definitely universal
players who are new and actively trying to play fighting games at a more competent level often complain about how things they practice and can execute with regularlity against a bot in the training room are much, much harder to execute on another actual player. confidence drops, hands hesitate, and thus combos get dropped and setups get floundered. and this continues until the player's mindset changes, when they fear the opponent less and gain confidence in their practiced skills
i sort of noticed this intuitively when i play valorant or league and i think ive pseudo-confirmed it by making ample use of the mute functions in those games. other players are a constant source of stress and distraction, even from well-meaning players. recognizing your current limits and adjusting them by muting people who distract and stress you out works wonders. im top fragging with greater regularity without even noticing because im thinking more about the match and what's going wrong and less about my team mates and what they think of me
your videos are the best valorant tutorials ive ever seen thank you so much ive improved from iron to silver faster thanks to you
I think that it also helps to actively think about things that you want to change, in this context think about tapping and being ready to shoot and not spraying when you shouldn't
I'm trash for both deathmatch and ranked even though I have all good enough gears except kinda unstable internet, but this video is really good I think. I like the way how he explains the pressure/mindset is important in gaming.
This makes so much sense! Thank you for explaining this so well.
This is no longer a valorant channel, this is a psychology guide.
I have realised when i am serious and very focused i get tilted easily when i mess up and start doubting myself. But when i am not serious i dont get tilted so my mind is always calm and i make better decisions and become aware of my mistakes which makes me play better.
It makes a lot of sense, because I was on my silver 3 rankup game last night, and I was matched against 3 plats which made me think about how I normally win my duels against them in deathmatch, so I guess it is a big confidence thing for me
And imo the fact that you KNOW you can respawn every time you die Definitely helps with your mind too lol
Nerves is why I crouch spray in ranked games while I always counter-strafe vandal taps in Deathmatch lol.
people are relaxed in deathmatch, therefore not folding under pressure.
That is all
You cited my favorite professor of all time’s paper. Well done sir.
Your vids have helped me perform better not just with aim but with mindset. Finally got out of Iron and played in Bronze this Act. Radiant content from this guy.
thia is why pheonix ult is so scary.. the come running at us with no fear if death..
I really gotta stick it in my head to apply this to more games, and of course irl.
Really great advice as always. This was a phenomenal video, keep up the great content!
idk sometimes in deathmatch, there are times where your spawn rate is fucked. like after you spawn, someone will one tap you from behind then when you spawn again, someone swings close at you even though they were not in the map near you.
then when you lead the leaderboard, you’re the one farming for people not engaging duels at you. you just catch them off guard.
that’s why when i play comp, i’m already tilted. it’s either because you were not able to warm up properly because people keep being rats in dm or you rarely had aim duels in dm but you’re still on top of it like literally nothing’s warmed up.
2:16 has to be one of the smoothest transitions I’ve ever seen
THE CHROME TABS LOOOOL
I, g3, played against the actual GUARD neT in a dm so perhaps the matchmaking is a bit screwed
i like how you showed siCk clip at the end hes the guy i look upto most consistent player i have ever seen
1:13 I love your humour xD
So many rounds in ranked matches come down to positioning and simply NOT panicking. Also using your utility. Just USE IT
Personal Experience:
I was grinding comp, losing everymatch while using reyna, my main agent, every solo queue. I knew how to place the nades, when to place the nades, the turret, the bots and all, only because i wasnt worried about dying
this is why i love using smokers, you basically drop your smokes and abilities and go deathmatch mode without worrying about the points you smoked
THAT RAZE FROM THE CRINGE CLIP IS THE DEMON IN ALL OF OUR NIGHTMARES
I honestly just think it's the fact that you respawn in dm, so it doesn't matter if you die, whereas in comp you know the round is over for you when you die, so you get all tense and timid.
and it always has been that way
if you want to win that round believing in yourself is often enough
love how nobody talking about that guy who airballed while being left wide open that was embarrassing they knew he was gonna fuck up
2:20 as an inconsistant af phoenix player this video just feels like a personal attack
the main thing is to remember this is just a game, so what will happen to your actual life if you lose a virtual rank? what will actually happen to you irl if you keep whiffing and play bad? I personally keep this mindset and am able to succesfully transfer my one taps in dms to unrated. (im not lvl 20)
you gotta love that somehow through all natural evolution when it comes to pressure moments our brains are just like naah fuck this.
Just won my first dm today during warmup and felt stellar but was scared to start a ranked thinking that I wont be as good there.
I don't know why people take this game so seriously. They act like having a high rank in Val is gonna make them relevant in the real world... but instead, they become trash human beings with a trash ranking.
And then they use cheats to win the game
bro you are not even gonna believe this but your comment kindof made me think that i was doing it wrong by taking this game so seriously. knowing unknowingly your comment was a eye opener for me . thanks mate
There is a small chance that you can become relevant by being really good at a game, for example pro players/good streamers. So I think a lot of people take that to heart since almost everyone wants to be relevant and now they think theyre the next TenZ shroud etc
@@gnazh8292 that chance is .01% bro
When Val first came out I was obsessed with the game and performing well in it. Then I realized that the game has absolutely nothing to do with my life.
Something you misses, the 1v4 in DM, they aren’t on a team with shared comms, map and plan
thank you so much I needed this😄
Glad I could help!
you're right, I mostly play reyna/sage and when we're winning or I had a good day, I usually breeze through the sites but when we have lost the fisrt 5-6 rounds, my confidence goes down and as reyna I tend to play in the back because I'm scared of potentially losing the gunfights I get myself into.
its all about confidence that differs
I’ve tried explaining this to my friends but they never understood this video may help them.
It's literally because of utility, getting blinded, having to shoot the blind, smokes, all that distracts you, plus in tdm you get free heals after killing a person and everyone in tdm doesn't crouch, therefore it's easier getting kills without having to worry about being blinded or having utility used on you.
Very good video, exactly what i needed. thanks!
I was just thinking about this last night and then u just made a vid about it lmao
Ah yes, this is the final puzzle piece I need to push out of Bronze...
My friends always create a competition between me a my friend as we are the best players (as in who can get the most frags ,we both play duelists btw) and the pressure is insane I do so much better when I solo queue.
other youtuber: You to practice in dm to get good crosshair placement
Valorant Ascended : Your BRAIN is tricking u
In ranked I always have been worrying about my rank and lose WAY more of my comp games than my unrated games that I win SOOO much more
And I top frag so much more in my unrated games because I never think of being scared to lose because even if I did my rank wouldn’t go down
This video came out the SECOND I demolished a DM lobby and went 8-17 in ranked. It is destiny.
This is strong side of smurfs, they have nothing to lose
I ranked up from bronze to gold by just playing more confident in ranked and trusting my aim
You should be scared when you enemy in Deathmatch is staring at you just strafing around then shoots you.
This is true, when I was in deadmatch I am a demon 1 tap head and if I go for rank I just usually noob guy.
Really good video, the editing was sublime i'd Say, loved the Omen joke.
THIS IS SO TRUE. People were pushing me b long icebox n i said out loud 'its just a deathmatch' got 2 one taps and dipped 😭😭
would be great if there's an option to queue for a game that is randomly either unranked or competitive so you will never know when to take it serious or not haha
That just puts you at more risk
YOOOOO THATS AN AMAZING IDEA lolll
No then people will just tryhard regardless js so they dont lose rr
Now I know why a silver 3 like me gets queued up with diamonds, immortals, and radiants in my DM lobbies
In deathmatch, you try to kill.
But in ranked, you try to win.
i just really don't play unrated because there's a lot of people of higher elos practicing there and i have no window to improve, i got a 14 day ranked ban like a month ago and on those 14 day i ran into diamond and immortal premades and it was pure pain
5 full silver 3 act ranks never been gold
This is the perfect rank to play with friends
The most important difference is people are way more careful in ranked and hold tighter angles.
In addition of what you said I also think that in DM everyone is enemy of each other while in Comp 5 guys are out for you
Oh don't forget that in DM, people run with around with valorant sounds off and listening to music.
Spittin facts (☉。☉)!
i always panic as soon as i see someone in ranked and begin to shoot right away no matter where my crosshair is 😭 bad habit but it’ll probably get better the more i play
in a match, they know where you will be and be waiting for you and the typical play out, in dm often get free kills from instant spawn in face or seeing exact where abouts on map and no abilitys to worry about and you can hear their steps unlike in ranked where cant hear them over the screaming kids on voice
