This is one of the most underrated albums of all time. It's difficult to get in to so most people just turn it off. If you actually approach it with an open mind though it's The Fall's version of psychedelica and while it does have filler, it has flashes of absolute genius that make it a great LP.
I just got the reissue this week, and I've never heard any track that wasn't on Peel. I'm completely blown away by this album. One of their absolute best.
Un'altra fantastica Lp dalla The Fall. Buonissima suona. Meravigliosa produzione. Bel ingegnere. Eccellente chitarrista. Restare nei pace e cielo Mark E Smith. Tony Jacqui Lucy.
I only got deep into the Fall 2017-2018, but man can't believe it took me this long to hear 4 1/2 Inch. Hell of a tune. Ditto with Spencer Must Die. Genuinely finding it's way into my top Fall tracks
I've always loved the fact that mark e smith ended up producing it after loads of infighting and sacking of band mates ..that's why it's the most unique fall album outhere
I say: The Fall are good. Controversial, I know, but that's me. I take no prisoners, tell it like it is, colours nailed to mast. I'm going to like it for the 493rd time. I never felt so ALIVE!
Dude, I totally agree and I think at the time it sounded worse because of the rather half assed drum and bass beats, years later they sound rather quaint.
People moaning here about MES's choice of music to accompany his poetry. You have to wonder how many labels would've issued and how many people would've bought his records if they were just spoken word. Just listen to this record without comparing to anything else. Fine Quality.
I remember been in Cardiff for whatever reason sometime in 1998.. It was for sale in one of the record shops there on vinyl. I didn't have enough money to buy it unfortunately otherwise I would've.. could kick myself now..
Some great tunes for sure - "The Quartet of Doc Shanley" stands out for me. Then again, there's "Ol' Gang", the most aggressively tuneless and shit "song" I've ever heard from The Fall! The piano playing contravenes all musical sensitivities, was it played by a human-hating robot?
If you're even in that state of appraisal, I envy you. It only dawned on me, a decade or so post-fact, that such questioning is a measure of the album - ie. up there, somewhere. God bless this album, particularly Levitate as performed live,
Nobody is forced to like this album: Another 30+ to choose from this Genius. I miss Mark!
I love the unhinged vibe of this.
One of my favourite Fall albums.
Warp75...I gave up years ago trying to convince people of The Falls greatness....much better to keep this greatest of secrets to yourself!

Very diverse, interesting, enjoyable content on your channel.

The power of Masquerade is undeniable
Always challenging. Always brilliant.

I hated this at the time but it's really grown on me over the years.

Great to listen to at 9am when you have your first drink... get ur mind into gear.
Are you an alcoholic? Who drinks at 9am?
@@mikecondy6010 Yes.... sometimes I start early.
I love it for some reason.

RIP Mark E! You old sod.
Even during their later years the fall never eased up on their catchiness and they know how to get down on their tracks!
This is such a weird album. I missed this one upon release. Sounds great in 2024
I Come and Stand at Your Door = wow
A 1st for me. The whole album,at least.
The only band worth a listen.
Thanks for posting!
It is a one off. By the FALL. A drop in an ocean.

It [Ol' Gang] is very Sonic Youth, but since Sonic Youth were heavily influenced by The Fall, it's only fair.
Yeah his wife
His wife. You probably nailed her down there.. she had to have a few kinks to get the job....she did the band a power of good to be honest
I love The Fall but I just can't get this album. Hurricane Edward is decent but that's about it.
was this ever on vinyl, this cd soundz very distant///
@davidmoon this is the album version btw
Gottseidank habt ihr keinen Bunk er gemacht 😅
A weaker effort IMO upon first listen but Ol' Gang is beast, and Levitate is pretty rad too.
If you're even in that state of appraisal, I envy you. It only dawned on me, a decade or so post-fact, that such questioning is a measure of the album - ie. up there, somewhere. God bless this album, particularly Levitate as performed live,
RECEPIE
Wow. UA-cam.com really sucks.
worst fall song ive ever heard.
