Just as a note, you had the red hands warning where it said pay attention to the road multiple times and you assumed you did something wrong, but I experienced quite frequently that if you are passing by an area with a bunch of construction cones FSD will flash that warning no matter what you're doing most likely because it just does not feel 100% confident in navigating and wants you to in more affirmatively indicate you are prepared to take over
In min 2.24, it moved to give space for people passing behind.....so cool.

I think the best word for the state of FSD under most common circumstances is now “discretion” or “judgement”. You appear to be mostly discussing “how my human judgement or discretion would differ to FSDs’”, that’s a pretty impressive state to have gotten it to by Tesla!

Also, the town added a recreational area with a huge parking lot. They expanded the road so it has two lanes on the side opposite the parking lot. The straight through lane is for turning left into the lot and there is a sign "left lane for left turn only". V12 obeyed this sign and and moved over to the right lane! It doesn't always obey so maybe this was a fluke. I doubt it can actually read the sign.
It still sucks at dealing with center turn lanes. We need a Chuck Cook for center turn lanes.

That merge behavior at 6 min in is incredible. Something like that can’t be coded in, or it would be very difficult. It knew to take off quickly immediately after the other car hit its brakes. Mind blown.
Can FSD use the full acceleration capability of the vehicle to make a merge in a tight situation, or is it limited for predictability?
I noticed since something like v11.4 there's a "construction beep", even if you have hands on the wheel actively torquing it, it sometimes will beep when it notices potentially concerning construction, and sometimes it beeps a few more times when the construction doesn't stop

Chris, "Miles between disengagements" look worse on this drive vs. previous on your graph. However it is just because this drive was shorter. This is one reason that "Disengagements per 1000 miles" would be a much better parameter for your graphs.

If you drive e.g. 9 miles and got one disengagements you can't assume that there won't be any more disengagements for the next 991 miles.
It's not like the car failed, just Chris disengaging to give fsd more complex tasks

23:23 pedestrians were on the left. As soon as they slowed down and it was sure they weren't crossing, the car went. If they had been crossing the other way, they would have been in the intersection.
If you want a challenge for FSD, try downtown Boston. I’ve been using it for weeks starting at state house and it’s very good, only requiring 2-3 interventions.

Nice town. Basically no traffic at all. Smooth streets, no hills or dips. Maybe that’s typical, but not close to what I see in my neighborhood, where FSD slows long before corners and then suddenly zooms through intersection; can’t see dips in road so it just stops; hugs way to the right instead of middle of lane. Overall more scary than useful.
By the way Chris, if you want to make the car turn where the GPS says to go straight, if you hold the blinker it will usually follow it.
You can test this by going down a straight road with turns off of it and just holding the blinker and the car will usually take one of the turns.

FSD still isn't creeping into the intersection to avoid missing a turn. Need this for city driving! I can't wait to get my hands on 12.4!

The other consistent problem is school zone speed limits. Georgia seems to be making a drive to install traffic cams and one time I lowered the speed to the required 35 and FSD sped me back up to 45 which before I noticed it, caught me a ticket.

FSD could also care less about the slower posted traffic speeds in highway construction zones, which in Ohio is a double fine!

Just got 12.4. Previous versions have two consistent problems on Interstates. First, while in HOV lane, any left hand exit ramp is a crap shoot. It almost always wants to take the offramp whether its to just a regular surface street or even a different interstate. Second, on road trips, it reads the MINIMUM / SPEED LIMIT / 45 (3 ROWS) as SPEED LIMIT / 45 .
FSD also is very jerky in entering the exit lanes on highways, also always a disengagement for me if I have a passenger with me. People behind me think I am a jerky driver! Ugh
Actually in future when fsd is complete and safe enough, some road signs and other himan restrictions will have to be removed for fsd yo be super smooth. Coz most of human road signs are full of confusion

When it beeps and says "Pay Attention" it's not your fault. It will do that sometimes when it sees things outside that it thinks might be dangerous, regardless of what you are doing inside the car. Sometimes it will do that if someone is coming up fast behind you. Obviously also if it sees construction and it's not sure exactly what to do.
Seems the car has a personality. It’s first stop it wipes the windshield once to say, okay we’re here.😊

Recently got a Tesla with the FSD trial. My most consistent issue is that it almost always hesitates when making a lane change. It will make half a lane change, almost undo it, then finish with another half-lane change. Feels very awkward when other drivers are around. Anyone else have that issue?
Yes, it’s referred to as lane dancing; a known issue in v12.3.6, and apparently in v12.4.1 as well. Agreed, it is awkward. Hopefully it will be resolved soon.
Without all the promised features of FSD it remains frustrating. Where is summon? This cars software should do so much more.
Pretty sure there must be some serious flaws with 12.4.1. My bases is Tesla is pushing spring updates with 12.3.6. I just got the updates that includes the Spring Updates but FSD is still 12.3.6
Yes, 12.4.1 is halted due to excessive lane change bug.
One time my fsd stopped too suddenly at a yellow and I almost got rear ended.
I wish they would fix the speed limit on the interstate where it has lower speed for trucks only and it keeps slowing down every time you pass a sign.
12.3.6 is so good now I dont want to upgrade yet.. I went on vacation for 10 days, came back to the spring update but still on 12.3.6. But this is NOT the same 12.3.6 when I left. Its behaving so much more confident now and iv changed nothing. Drove around for 3 hours yesterday and hit all my trouble spots in town and it seemed to handle them way better. An area where it would ALWAYS stop to triple, quadruple check, then check 1 more time, it actually slowly rolled that area every time I went through. I could tell it was still checking left and right, but not coming to a full stop 4-5 times like a half blindman with short term memory loss. Braking seemed way smoother coming to stop. Acceleration is still aggressive and everyone thinks im racing them at lights, but It actually gets up to speed now. 50mph highway, it would always get up to 44-45mph and not accelerate more unless I pressed the pedal or traffic helped it speed it. Now, it speeds up to 50.. Even got up to 52mph with no traffic around and no pedal press. Its never done that before. It also rolled out of my driveway. It usually stops there too and treats it like a stop sign but ever since I got back, its rolling out like a normal person.
Just always upgrade as soon as you can imo, no version is perfect yet so better get in the testing pool that Tesla wants you in maybe? A new version is either better or a tad worse at times but still better to move forward at this point IMO!
From the software perspective it is wiser to wait for the version to mature, go out of baby period and then upgrade. So it should actually be better to skip one or two point releases.

They probably mean in front or behind, but you probably got lucky picking a space with a street/alley/driveway in front of it.

So tired of FSD 11 phantom breaking, toggling between lanes for no reason, and aiming for work zone cones. Can’t wait for version 12 to be available to the public (not just youtubers).
We have a blinking yellow light on a 2 lane road where the cross traffic has a biking red light and they need to stop, every version of fSD has had issues with that where it's doing the blinking yellow and needs to get through the intersection but it always slows down and sometimes slows a lot. I keep thinking I'm going to get rear ended every time it does that, it's supper annoying.

In the south, most everyone either pulls over and stops or slows down drastically when a funeral procession passes in the opposite direction. It is a tradition intended to show respect for the dead. I don't know how FSD can conquer that one since it seems it is a cultural thing. i.e. in Tennessee you slow down or stop, in Michigan you yield right of way only.
In Tennessee, if on a four lane highway, cars moving in the opposite direction of the procession will most often pull into the right lane and slow, the Tesla could see that as creating " wide open spaces" , move into the left lane and hit the full speed limit plus. Not only would that be wrong, it would be considered disrespectful. Add in the fact that it is a Tesla in the southeast and Katie bar the door.
The car door…. how far off was it? If you would put the cars cameras up instead of the full screen visualisation then we could tell. Thanks for sharing all this.
Does 12.4.1 work properly now in stopping for school buses and school speed zone limits? I had problems with 12.3.6 ignoring flashing school bus lights and not slowing down for school zones.

Please, please change the charts from miles per disengagement to disengagements per mile (or 100 miles or whatever).
It doesn't make sense that 0 and 1 disengagements look the same on the chart. It also looks as if this drive was worse than the last one just because you drove less miles this time.
That's how I used to do it and was begged to change it to this style because you end up getting 0.112 per and it just looks weird.

Why don't you just deactivate "auto set speed offset" if it is screwing up so much? 🤔
Just put 10% fixed offset in and call it a day.
Problem for me is Tesla has at least in my area where speed limit keeps thinking the correct speed is 10 to 30 miles above or below the actual posted speed limit. You plan in on area would have my car going 50 in a posted 30 mile zone. Or going 44 in 55 zone with your plan.
What no one is covering on these post is that in areas where Tesla don’t have speed map data it will set to what it thinks is speed limit is. Then when you pass a speed limit sign it sets correctly most of the time. Then next side street it wipes out last speed limit going back to what it thinks it should be
He’s a tester, the point is to test it and demonstrate the issues. Auto speed is important to get right because on roads I drive on, for instance, when FSD tries to go the speed limit or higher on some curves in the road it literally drives off the road because it doesn’t turn hard enough or goes far over the middle line. Almost damaged a tire yesterday when it went off the road on a curve.

@@FriedChairs there seems to be a major misunderstanding on your part what this system does. It's not "auto speed". FSD will always handle the speed at which it is going.
There's just a limit on how fast the car is allowed to drive, for legal reasons - and that's the speed limit.
Tesla thought it's a good idea to automate speeding, following the example of bad drivers in the US who constantly break the law and called this "auto set speed offset".
It does what it name is, it takes the speed limit and offsets automatically the set speed (which is the speed limiter for FSD) based on a very simple neuronal network (completely seperate from FSD).
So if the Speed Limit says 35 and the speed looks like a highway the function may set the "set speed" to 85 mph and let's FSD figure a safe speed on its own. Or if the speed is 45 but the road is very narrow it may set the set speed to 25 because it "thinks" that's enough.
Tesla does constant adjustments on what the system is allowed to adjust above and below the speed limit, in C++ code, but overall it's just a "the road looks like I can go x mph" instead of following the legal requirements of the speed limit.

wow totally different experience than in my car in Canada! Yesterday it took me into the lane with opposite traffic., ghost breaks a lot with no cars around, makes up speed limit signs and drives too slow, lane changes without turning signal, couple of times comes to intersection with stop sign and just goes for it and few other smaller things

I was recently upgraded to 2024.14.9, still on 12.3.6 😢 on my 2020 Intel MYP. Apple Music seems more sluggish since. I guess I will be included when 14.2 comes out. I don’t know if it’s fixed in FSD 14.1 but when the car crosses a train track or the front of the car is higher than the back, road tracking disappears and FSD freaks out! Experienced this before?

Sheesh. Glad I don’t have this version. Going ~17 in a 25mph even without construction, sitting at green lights when the route is going straight, etc. Hopefully 12.4.2 gets it back on track. Luckily 12.3.6 is solid enough that I’m happy to wait for extra time to iron out the issues.
You obviously didn’t critically assess why FSD was going 17 mph. I see complaints like yours all the time, but if you closely examine the environment, you will realize the cause of FSD’s actions. Would you rather FSD just barrel through at 25 mph with no regard to possible anomalies? That’s called defensive driving.
Blinking yellows are bad for me on 12.3.6 and is very repeatable. Also yellows in general. Have had a ton of harsh breaking.

I dont think its in Tesla’s DNA to try and micro fix things based on Creator content. I would believe that they take disengagements to build better map data into the next build, but not focused on just Creators. Chuck’s left is a bit of an exception, as that was creating new feature support. That said it is funny they’ve been driving that turn in real life for like 2 years. I would have never thought they needed that much real life validation of a specific spot.

At 12:34, would the car have turned right if you had turned the blinker on? The route was to go forward, but if you turn the right blinker on, would the system change the route to accommodate that?

To see the Yellow Breaking continue is so disappointing.. I've had serious HARD BRAKING yellow issues even at 55 and 60mph speeds and something happened in the V12 update.
I've asked so many times and flashing yellows are also as you see is still a problem.
What auto pilot settings are you using? Did it make a difference when using chill, average or assertive.

I think it's map data but yes, the behavior is very consistent and repeatable over the past year or more

12.4.x is not released yet to the public. Also 12.5 is supposed to go to first employees/testers at the end of month. But probably 12.4.2 or .3 will be pushed to public, mostly because of no nag feature. And to get more edge case scenarios on the new AI model.
What are the icons next to the padlock at the top center of the visualization screen for?
Camera icon is an original beta testers feature, so they could mark and send video captures to Tesla. Arrow icon I am guessing is for Attention monitoring and it tells you to look ahead instead on the screen.
When you are not making videos do you use the blind spot camera feature? I'm still on 12.3.6 and sometimes it doesn't show the feed with some turn signals.

I am experiencing many more random lane changes with FSD 12.4.1. Cannot seem to make up it's mind, so people pass me on the right to get past me!
