Best part of the GTA IV websites is how they're a time capsule, a parody of the old internet before brand deals, before huge UA-cam personalities, before social media was a common phrase, before you only went to a few websites for just about everything. The real internet used to be the wild west and that really came to an end in the early 2010s, right after this game would come out. So many people had sites that just got spread around via word of mouth because some folks were crazy enough to type anything in a web address to see what popped up or friends sharing their web domain with their friends and so on. Blogs, small news sites, a website that just had dancing hamster gifs, or a site just to share pictures of your dog, the Internet just isn't the same anymore. Those kinds of sites still exist but you just don't see them as much anymore. Browsing GTA IV's version of the Internet is reminiscent of those old days and I love it for that.
Im just waiting to see how the gta 6 internet will be, jackass influencers who bully people through staged pranks, weird family vlogs, cryto coin and nft scammers.
If I compare the internet then and now, Reddit kind of feels like the old internet if you squint your eyes real bad and pretend subreddits are the websites. It's not the same and just like you said, now it's just a few huge websites most people go to. There's no real need for any more websites. I remember how many websites there were that only listed other cool websites to check out, like a phonebook but with URLs. I love how in-game media in GTA games have like no filters on them. While GTA V's internet is more useful, being able to buy cars and use the stock market, I still prefer IV's internet. Also, I don't know why, but despite the fact that you could access the internet from your phone at any time, I never felt motivated to explore the websites as I was in 4. I love how electric tit is meant to be UA-cam, and was even around the time they were being sued by Viacom, and it’s interesting to see that Rockstar was predicting that it was going to fail, when in reality YT would win that lawsuit and continue to thrive for years to come
I love GTA IV's and Front Mission 3's in-game internet. GTA IV100% captures 2007/8 internet culture, even being a parody. Supposedly Dan Houser hated UA-cam that's why ElectricTit is so over the top.
I was wondering if GTA had an established UA-cam equivalent. I vaguely recall ElectricTit but I don't think I knew it was the YT parody until now. When I looked it up on the wiki, it stated that it's a combination of UA-cam, RedTube and PornHub, apperantly. I'm hoping there's a more direct fictional UA-cam in GTA VI or at least an ElectricTit where you could watch videos, maybe sub to channels and get notifs. It's lesser emphasis on pornographic content could reflect social media apps being more supervised by the 2020s.
I really didn't ever think just HOW unhinged the WWW was in GTA IV until this. I was always too busy doing stuff, and making the cops VERY angry. Never really browsed GTA V's internet that much... But now I'm going to, just so I can see how wild that is too. I miss the old days of uncensored and crazy stuff online.
GTA 4's internet really is a time capsule of mid-late 2000s internet. They did a good job capturing the "wild west" feel it still had before the big shift in the 2010s.
Stumbled upon the beauty pagent website. Funniest shit. Some website for a kids beauty pagent that is being monitered by the FIB. A warning is displayed on opening stating a detective is en-route to your location. On exiting the site, you have a four star wanted level. Thought the idea was too funny and well executed.
I've seen both videos of the GTA internet and both are funny - you did a great job highlighting them, so thank you for that. I was amazed to find out that the side mission locations are right there to find and use - I didn't see that in the GTA V video - doesn't it have that as well ? Anyway it's kinda shocking because I didn't expect that. Somewhat gives me the itch to load up that game and have some fun with it all (also since I can't play V because I'm on win 7 still - solutions welcome)
Surprised you didn't talk about the VERY illegal in-game website. One that automatically lets the police know your location and gets you a 5 star wanted level...
Imagine if in GTA VI Electric Tit bounces back from bankruptcy in the form of TitBit, or some other name like that, and is the in-universe equivalent of TikTok. The joke of them being pissed off about being bought out by Eyefind could be carried on with them being given another chance at life by the Chinese government 💀
I know I'm not the only one to have already mentioned this but its amazing to me that despite GTA 4 being developed by a UK company, Rockstar has always captured the satire of American Culture very well for almost 20 years by now.
It makes me wonder how different were the lot of websites back in day, because some of the sh*t that Rockstar mentions about them really feels like it comes from place of bafflement and it probably takes a lot to surprise people at Rockstar.
I didn't think I could have find Eddie low even more disgusting and creepy but after watching this vid and the things he wrote in his website, I think even Trevor isn't as creepy as that guy.
I'm going to use OpenIV at some point to try to see if these pages are textures with additional programming to simulate hyperlinks or whether the game straight-up includes an HTML engine. The proof will be in whether there are HTML files reflecting these pages found within the game's assets.
I used to get on GTA IV's Internet just to get some inspiration for Twitter 😂😂😂 Little Cigar, the whole random text posts you can see I would just copy and paste it on X 😂😂
GTA5 may have the better internet but it dropped the ball on a lot that GTA4 did much better like NPC AI, Ragdoll Physics, Combat System/Mechanics, the Atmosphere & Storyline, the Map, No scummy MTXs or Shart Cards, having a Vigilante Mode and the fact it actually had Single-Player DLC. I love how electric tit is meant to be UA-cam, and was even around the time they were being sued by Viacom, and it’s interesting to see that Rockstar was predicting that it was going to fail, when in reality YT would win that lawsuit and continue to thrive for years to come
Brucie, the OG masculinity grifter
I hope they make a Tate parody with him and his brother Mori lmao
Mr. Golden balls
Eddie low even commented under the strangers tab
well he is creepy and a serial killer lol
“Sick freaks to avoid” at 16:53 also had some Eddie Low comments under it. Dude is everywhere.
1:44 DippyDave's comment couldn't be anymore true
The internet content in IV and V is hugely underrated. Can't wait to see what they cook up for VI!
I missed a lot of those websites from my times playing gta4
I never knew looking at GTA 4 and 5 Internet would be fun asf.
Gta's world is fun.
As a European/Balkan, the whole Europe section (19:55) is hilarious from our perspective.
"The war on fun" sounds like today's gaming:-p
the site with all the secrets is actually cool af
That Pure Pool OST is fitting!
I used to love getting into internet cafe rabbit holes when i was very young
this is a very well done video
12:44 Luis Fernando Lopez would be the Protagonist of TBoGT.
also wu "kenny" lee and huang lee from gta chinatown wars
It’s crazy how often I revisit this video because it’s just pure gold :D
The what they do now want you to know website is such a clever way of secretly telling the player where to find the collectibles.
A thousand words was a parody of Humans of NY... How am I miss that one?
James who is locked up in Indonesia is also a San Andreas reference. He was “The Wild Traveller” on WCTR radio station.
0:48 a thousand thank you for sharing words.
Before the internet got taken over by the man.
the eddie lore is so good
I spent once 3 hours reading everything on there, electrictit comments are hilarious, myroomonline was wild, eddie low's lore gave me nightmares once
Alr know this gon blow up
So sad Rockstar didn't develop our internet
real
Shoulda ended it by going on little lacy suprise pageant website and getting the discord mod experience. 😅😂🤣
LOVE the Pure Pool soundtrack used in this video
I distinctly remember the click pointer doing the middle finger on you, could my memory be this wrong?
That was actually only in GTA V ahaha, but honestly before this video I thought the same thing.
@@CaptainGlack Ah so I wasn't totally misremembering, anyway good video, took me back
Truly timeless.
It makes me wonder how different were the lot of websites back in day, because some of the sh*t that Rockstar mentions about them really feels like it comes from place of bafflement and it probably takes a lot to surprise people at Rockstar.
Great video! Just subbed. Is your outro song Handbags and Gladrags btw?
Thanks, I appreciate that!
Also yeah it is! A favourite of mine since childhood. You’re the first person to comment on it too!
@@CaptainGlack Great choice! I thought I recognised it 😊
Woah your frequent uploads! Solid channel to watch out for, nice!
i love the internet >>
GTA VI's twitter parody alone is gonna be a minefield.
More games need a real fake Internet. Things like this add so much to how real a game's world feels.
I didn't think I could have find Eddie low even more disgusting and creepy but after watching this vid and the things he wrote in his website, I think even Trevor isn't as creepy as that guy.
I just know the people working on this game were laughing like hell writing all these fake social posts
you will love Hypnospace Outlaw
I'm excited to see how GTA VI's internet compares to Dreamsettler
I'm going to use OpenIV at some point to try to see if these pages are textures with additional programming to simulate hyperlinks or whether the game straight-up includes an HTML engine. The proof will be in whether there are HTML files reflecting these pages found within the game's assets.
A huge Thank You for your unique and exceptional GTA IV videos which made appreciate this masterpiece game even more 🙌
I forgot how cool GTA 4's map was.
4:22 the fact that they predicted tik tok 16 years ago is crazy
sweetrec's profile is wild lmfao "im about to comment some heinous shit in ur gallery" or some shit lmfao
Yet another banger of a video
Always good to see you in the comments!
You could spend hours browsing the gta iv internet
Eddie Low also comments on the Strangers map.
Which website was the one that gives you wanted stars?
little lacy pageant show i believe
Absolutely loved this video
I LOVE THIS CHANNEL!!!!!
💕💕
@@CaptainGlack keep up with the consistent uploads my friend and you'll grow a lot more, and we'll deserved btw
IT'S FUCKING SHITE!!!!!
I used to get on GTA IV's Internet just to get some inspiration for Twitter 😂😂😂
Little Cigar, the whole random text posts you can see I would just copy and paste it on X 😂😂
The Wild Traveler radio broadcast in San Andreas was absolutely HILARIOUS!! The talk radio in SA was one of my favorite stations some of the shit they'd talk about was totally bonkers. 😂
What about little lacy surprise forbidden website
