Malaekahana Falls Trail | Best Hikes on Oahu | Hawaii Waterfalls

- Malaekahana Falls is a series of multiple falls. The biggest falls is upstream of where the trail meets the river, and you have to climb up a couple smaller falls to get there. Down stream there are two more falls with a great swimming hole and jumping spots.
The hike itself is really pretty and has wild guava growing on the side of it. The last section of the hike is pretty overgrown, so long pants are nice to have. You can find more info about doing this hike at: www.hawaiireser...

This is siiiiiiiick!!!
Thanks! It is definitely one of my favorites!
It feels like you can get lost is it safe ? For first time tourists to go there?
I probably wouldn't recommend this hike for a first time tourist. There are places on this trail that could be pretty easy to take a wrong turn or end up going the wrong direction, if you don't have a good map and know how to use it. A pretty big portion of this trail is overgrown and difficult to get through. In order to get to the bigger upper falls I had to climb up a couple smaller falls including using a rope to get up the side of a pretty slippery waterfall. I lost some of the footage from this hike so the overgrown section and the rope climbing up the side of the waterfall didn't get included in this video. I probably wouldn't recommend this hike unless you had done other similar hikes in the area or were going with someone who had done it before.
Where's the start of this hike? I couldn't find it on google maps..
It's on AllTrails. When I did it, I started from the park in town and walked to the trailhead from there.

How long was this hike
It's about 7 miles round trip.
I arrive in Oahu June 12. Is Malaekahana Falls totally Natural or was some of that man influenced? The tiered pool formations seem so incredible!
The waterfall is all natural. It really is an incredible place 🌴
Do you really need a reservation to hike here?
From what I remember, it's more of an access agreement/liability waiver forms you have to fill out. Basically you just have to agree that the land owners aren't liable for anything and that you aren't doing commercial guiding and stuff like that.
You can check out the Hiking Permit info here: www.hrihelp.com/hiking-camping
I think it's probably the same form for Laie Falls .
Thank you for the info, what time would you recommend starting a hike like this? I’m just gonna go and park and hopefully not get in trouble.
@Makeawish456 I usually start my hikes first thing in the morning, so I have as much time as I need/want.
@@murphytravelsofficial I wish my friends could wake up before noon lol, I’m the only early bird..
