I will never fully trash games like these, because of how they were made. These games are very clearly small projects made by kids and I think that's pretty neat. The fact that someone young was able to get a game up and functioning is honestly impressive. People can underestimate just how much work it takes to make a game that actually functions. Plus, it's also important to encourage kids to embrace their creativity and try and make something, rather than just put them down. I hope the devs get to work on bigger and better things in the future.

They're not comparable. Dsaf 2 and 3 are genuinely the best fnaf fan games in the categories of humor, characters, and story, and 1 is still really funny. FnaS is not that.
Man, FNaS is one of those fangames that I remember only because during middle school, I had a friend who was really into Sonic, and during the Fnaf boom of the mid 2010's. He drew the FNaS characters and cut them out to play with me during snack, lunch and whenever the teachers gave us free time to play. Ah, the memories I have of him and I playing with cardboard/paper characters that we drew and cut out with all the wacky stuff we did and made up about them. Ahhh, fun memories. Anyways, good video on the topic! Would be cool to see you talk about other old Fnaf fan games that were popular at the time, like as someone suggested, five nights at Wario's.
The five nights at Sonic’s is probably one of the most dedication put in fnaf fan game series since they basically remade and changed almost every fnaf game and put sonic and such in it.
I respect your opinion but I think it's less impressive to copy a game and its mechanics but just replace the characters than creating an original setting, mechanics and characters
This was a really good in depth video about this series. As an original FNaS Dev Team member mentioned in the video with my own FNaS style game (yeah I know just adding to the pile of other games lmao), I've had my fair share with this series. Ian and I met in 2015 and we've been going strong to this day. My time with the FNaS Dev Team and with Team Cyantix is something I still hold dear to this day and have created memories that I will never forget. Thank you for creating this video and talking about this series and where it is today!
While you were playing tyke and sons, did you build the thing where the developer would talk to you about making the game? If not you should definitely go back and make it. It's called "what is that"
i ADORE the art style of the early FNAS games. it's not "good" in any conventional way, but just by looking at the game, you can see exactly what era of the internet it belongs to, and what kind of person it was made by. the fact that a lot of it was initially drawn on flipnote studio is just the icing on the cake, too!
im pretty into the series as a whole but theres a secret in the collection that i think doesnt exist anymore, so imma get into it If you leave the collection itself idle for a while the game name will change to something like "The Secret Lies At The End of The Hex" and so if you go in with some random hex editor it'll say ALL the way at the bottom of the hex The shadows were not going away forever..... They'll be back. i originally posted this to the unofficial wiki page about the collection but nobody noticed longest comment i've written
It would be sick to see a video on the Five Nights at Wario's series of fangames. They need so much more recognition than what they've got now, using incredibly interesting and unique mechanics that I don't think I've seen anywhere in other fangames. One of such mechanics is a sort of quest that takes you between each game to complete tasks in each other. Data carries over between games, and it's incredibly cool. It's incredibly underrated and has created a community that has made multiple well-made fangames such as FNAW: Trapped Within (I helped work on this one!) and a few others. FNAW as a whole needs a lot more attention. I will note that there are two versions of the games - updated, newer versions of the original games, and the originals. The newer versions add new modes and mechanics to the original game, so consider it just the original with a few added features. These new versions are needed for any cross-game stuff.
Shadow the Hedgehog being shadow Sonic doesn’t match the lore but they could have put shadow the hedgehog SOMEWHERE when they put silver in the 3rd game (I know this was a year ago, but I don’t care)
I had NO idea this particular fangame series got so extensive! You're right about the FNaF fandom I think, I remember watching a let's play or two of the first game and never played them or really any canon FNaF game either. The premise is silly and the art is maybe wonky sometimes, but as a 13-year-old kid who just got into creepypastas? It was genuinely a great watch to just have some mindless fun and I don't think there's anything wrong with that. It makes me happy to hear the team is doing well and has improved so much.
I hyperfixated on FNaS for a while when I was a young teen. Never played the games for myself, but enjoyed watching Taste Gaming do so till I moved on from his content. Hearing the series talked about again gives me nostalgia.
As someone who built her own computer a few months and actually *did* get a Trojan horse, it happens to the best of us, man. American cybersecurity laws are so lax (because they want to spy on us) that it’s estimated that 30-50% of all computers in American currently have some sort of malware. I was able to get it properly removed with help from Microsoft, but I legitimately have no clue how I got it. The USB stick (that I used to install Windows) was my own and the only websites I visited had good reputations.
@@grimesse I was tired and got the key from a sus website (too Google result, and it was nearly midnight) but the actual download was from Microsoft’s official website. I redownloaded it though just to be safe
I remember seeing this series slowly gain more and more hype during the 2010s. Seeing the quality go up so much was a trip. That's not saying much given that the FNAS1 bar to clear was so low, but it was still pretty cool.
I’d love if you covered the TRTF series, even though those games had many laughable flaws in both gameplay and writing, it had some sort of charm to it I can’t place. It manages to capture the old mysterious feel of the early fnaf days. Plus the history behind the creator makes for good content.
I have a game similar to this you should know, Five Night’s at Wario’s, it has lore as confusing but organized as FNAF and just released a demo for a new game I believe!
Ya know, it’s funny. I was gonna make a video on all the FNaS games earlier in the year, but ended up scrapping it because I lost interest in the project. Glad someone with far more credentials and editing skill than me was able to get on out though! Fun little fact I learned though, I actually asked TheCyVap himself some questions for extra info on the series, and the famous inside joke that started it all was a comic he made of the Fnaf 1 characters hiding in the Fnaf 1 office from Sonic.exe, which feels perfectly in line with the tone and vibe of the series.
I remember being so invested with the series back in the day, I’m not as involved as I once was, but this series is still part of my top 5 purely out of nostalgia for the franchise, I’m glad to have been a member of this fanbase Edit: Something I forgot to mention originally was that some of my fan works were even recognized by some of the major members of the crew, specifically Smiler himself
While I don’t know why FNaS World is the game that shall not be named according to the devs, a full (I think) play through is available on Taste Gaming’s channel.
i'm a bit late to replying but the reason everyone looks at it that way is because it's the only game in the ENTIRE series that was made official to feature stolen and uncredited assets, mixed with a horrendous art style that looks like scribbles even more than the ORIGINAL games in the series. the game also didn't follow the lore in the slightest, to the point where character names were completely wrong too. idk how it was ever made official.
Some viruses can inject themselves into executable files (especially installer .exe's) in order to spread, so it could be that either the original dev or the person who sent it to you was unknowingly infected with some kind of worm virus that infected the game/it's installer. It may also be a false positive, that happens a lot with fan games. The only way to tell would be to use something like VirusTotal to scan it with many different antiviruses and see how many of them see a virus.
Or just set up a VM for playing fangames or buy a cheap laptop that you can nuke after every install. I'd personally recommend the latter. FNaF fan games, for the most part, don't tax GPUs too badly.
@@andremrh7690 I already basically do that, just because I have a Mac. I run most games in Parallels (a really cool integrated VM) and rarely ever boot into Windows itself.
Quite indeed. Even thought Sonic's 1 & 2 are kinda meh, they learned from those games and went on to make Sonic's 3; 4 & 5, which are quite honestly actually good games. Like seriously, I'm ready to say that FNaS 3 is better than the original, FNaS 4 is similar to FNaF 4, but it's got it's own mix of gameplay & mechanics. FNaS 5, the most unique of the bunch and my personal favorite, while being kinda boring the first 4 nights, still captivated me thanks to the lore and gameplay it has been able to give. Like seriously, you even get a Hardmode with different designs for most of the cast after beating the 1st chapter
I've been playing FNaS and following the series for a long time now. It's really shocking where the series as come. This really puts me a smile on my face that someone talks about it :)
i could comment about how i enjoyed watching this video because i remember mildly liking this game years ago, and that i'm happy you covered it but no. i'm here to point out your minor speech error that doesn't mean anything to the actual video itself 13:43 "balloon boy replaced toad" jokes aside, i'm happy you talked about this! when i found out about this game i was pretty young and my art was *definitely* worse than the game's, so i never really saw anything wrong with the visuals. if anything it made me really want to try make my own fnaf fangame, even if that never ended up happening because coding actually takes time and effort i do not have. so it kinda holds this special place in my heart
It’s honestly a good thing these games are getting remasters/remakes. As much as I love this series, it definitely has problems and issues, with the franchise now having a new owner (I think), I’m excited to see what will happen in the future for this series. A friend of mine is actually making his own take on Fnas, it’s made in fully 3D.
Honestly I think having Night 6 be the only interesting night is interesting. It's kind of like a reward for going through the game, no matter how boring it got and showing your dedication.
Five Nights at Sonic's is truly one of the FNaF fangames ever made. I shed a tear when Sonic came into my office and said "It's Sonicin' time" and absolutely Sonic'd me.
Do you think you could cover five nights at f*ckboys? I feel like nobody talks about it anymore, it was really grindy yet fun and had basically the same humor if a little less tasteful thats 39’s
I second this wholeheartedly. I would bring it up more myself but I wouldn't wanna be one of *those* fans. But agreed, I really hope he brings up FNAFB. It's my favorite fan game series. I may be biased due to fussing with RPG Maker, and having the sense of humor of a teenage boy. Still!
It's actually kinda poetic that FNAS3 was the entry where the game design became competent and not a ripoff of previous FNAF entries, considering that's also the entry where professional talent ended up getting involved with the game. The Phone Guy in that game (who is actually supposed to be Silver the Hedgehog) was voiced by a FNAF Fangame youtuber by the name of TheGameSalmon, and he would later go on to also voice Nightmare Sonic in Five Nights at Sonic's 4 and Maniac Mania, as well as Shadow Sonic in the latter entry.
I remember i temporarily left the fnas fandom sometime after fnas 5 released due to losing interest. The series caught my interest again when the demo for manaic mania released
Near the end of the video I truly remembered how DEEP this series goes, yes I remembered it was pretty deep but then I get flashbacks to stuff like FNaSTale, FNaS World etc. Well done on this video mate, I don’t blame you for not going into every little detail in this video since you had a lot to cover and the video is already 37 mins. I actually think the lore is pretty cool and is maybe one of the reasons people still love this series to this day even if the gameplay isn’t always good.
Great vid as always! If you want another really old classic FNAF fangame series with even more drama involved in it and with lots of history, I suggest you turn to The Return to Freddy's. I myself am a rather well known creator in the community and I think you'd find the strange history of it, it's controversies and the fact it's somehow still holding on quite interesting.
While the early games suck honestly Maniac Mania is a really great game and really shows the progress they’ve made in terms of game making and art skills. I’m pretty not only is every single clone/animatronic from the official games are there but also there’s a few from the cancelled games and it is just really polished and is really fun. There is a new version being made but I’m not sure if it got canceled or not since the last version was made a few years ago Also the only time difference for Fnas 3 is that it starts at 10:00PM all the Fnas games go to 8AM just Fnas 3 starts at 10:00PM instead of 12AM
You should give maniac mania a try. Its the best out of all the games, its gets insanely hard, and has a boat load of content. I will warn you theres a lot of lore in maniac mania that connects with the previous games so definitely use the wiki.
I remember being a young child watching Taste Gaming play FNaS constantly. It's somehow become really nostalgic to me even if I don't know how to play the games
This series feels somewhat personal to me, as I've talked to CyVap multiple times despite not being friends with the guy. (Our convos were never really thorough, and I doubt he remembers me now, but I still vividly remember having talked to him.) I actually found this series through him commenting on an old piece of art I had made of my own Five Nights at Sonic's idea, and I was a fan of the series ever since. It's really nice to see someone talk about this series in a retrospect, and it's a treat watching the art evolve over the years. (Especially comparing it to CyVap's art nowadays, like seriously, it looks pretty damn good now!) Don't really have much else to say. Glad we are in agreement that FNaS 3 is super fun!
An honest thanks and props to you for delving this deep into the FNAS games and their background. Not many people give this sort of thing enough, let alone any light, and you did them justice. I don’t love the games, more of a “meh” from me on all of them. But the fact that there’s this deep a rabbit hole that so few people have properly covered makes me incredibly glad you did do it because this is super interesting. Thanks!
It’s crazy you made this recently, because I have been playing FNaS series for the first time recently on my channel, it is actually a pretty fun series, you can easily notice the improvement of each of the games throughout the series out best the last.
No way, my brother worked on these games. Placed2nd [or just 2nd]. he helped around with some assets during mamiac mania and was friends with the team. Hell his first videos on yt were him playing the game. Now he works on remastering the Five Nights at Wario series and I gotta admit, he's doing a great job at it
On the topic of fan games, does anybody else remember Sinister Turmoil? It was this cool upcoming free-roam fnaf fan game that alot of youtubers were hyping up back in 2017-2018. I believe it was gonna have multiplayer too. It might've been cancelled but idk.
Since I was like, Idk, a fan since FNaS 2 released, I was a serious dedicated fan, even tho it was a FNaF 1 and 2 re-drawn, it still amazed me because I was like 6 or so, I liked the game because there were Sonic characters, I still do like the game today and also tried to make my own FNaF fan game! I hope this series at least survives more than 5 years or so.
Fun Fact: There is also a fanmade Five Nights at Sonic’s mod for Friday Night Funkin. I remember seeing it a while ago, you could probably find it if you just search it up or something.
I used to be on the scoring leaderboards for a game called “Five Tries At Love” which is… just as cringy as it sounds. I loved it but it was cringe. I remember foxy falling in love with me and literally taking my heart if I remember correctly. I think it’s worth a look
@@Sonic-qc5cqfor context another UA-camr named LS Mark loves to talk about trendy things like fnaf, and he did a long form fnaf video that was almost completely inaccurate as he didn’t even play all the games. Then started to spout incorrect “facts” then complain that the games are boring. When he played like 2 of the like 6 games.
28:24 FNAS5 Looks so fun with the characters and gameplay in night 6, however uhyeah is right. The nights before are pointless and I wish instead of the same character attacking every night, they would add 1 of the new golden sonics each night. Personally, that would be a perfect idea for me.
The FNaS Series is weird, yes, but something about it makes it pretty neat. FNaS Maniac Mania is really fun, and with the (hopefully) upcoming Maniac Mania Infinite adding a lot more, the FNaS series is promising. Also, FNaS All-Stars.
This series has quite a legacy on my tiny channel, lol. It is pretty interesting seeing a proper analysis into these games, impressively made after FNaS3, and yet somehow it still just feels like clones. Fun games one can play if they have nothing better to do. I do remember playing FNaS World before it was deleted, and it is certainly a fever dream. I can't say much on it as the computer I played it on is now far long gone, but the game itself was very distinctive from FNaF World due to how hidden and weird the endings were. I don't think it served any lore relevance, but FNaS World is definitely the Pandora's Box of the FNaS series.
My only memory of this series is that I briefly tried all the games in a row, just expecting every single one to be a 1:1 clone of each FNaF game. I remember being genuinely surprised by the new stuff 3 had to offer. I think that's the point where I stopped going "haha funny MS Paint FNaF clone" and started to think "damn, I've genuinely witnessed growth here tonight, I respect that." Damn, I even still have the "FNaSTale demo" on my computer, all the way from when I downloaded it in 2016.
great video man! i remember seeing the first 2 fnas games when i was still really young back when they came out , i never expected it to actually have this big of a series since i just kinda lost track of it!
do return to freddys, easily one of my favorites for its artstyle and unique mechanics but, its very obscure and i think i remember hearing alot of controversy surrounding its creator and what eventually shut down the 5th game
Maniac Mania really made me appreciate this series because I found it entertaining yet goofy at first, but noticed the quality, effort and love put into it. At least to me! Edit: Maniac Mania, not Manic Madness
if i made a fnaf fangame tier list the top 5 would be 1 tyke and son lumber co 2 five night at sonics maniac mania 3 the five nights at candys series 4 the popgoes series 5 the joy of creation series its kinda sad that the series ended on a spin off game, these game had so much pontential, and it was the first fnaf fangame i ever played, i dowloaded fnas world and played it a little bit for a month or so, it didnt have a story mode so i got bored of it, but then when fnas maniac mania was anounced, i was hooked, i dowloaded the demo the DAY it came out and i loved it, then when the full game cameout i also dowloaded it the DAY it came out and i loved it even more, i watched walkthroughs, lore videos and more, i miss these series and maybe one day the devs will release a new game, who knows after all, maybe these series will make a comeback..... edit: in fnas 3 there is salvage golden sonic wich is a secound salvage sonic wich adds more fun and makes the game more challenging, (btw there is a fnas world game where you just choose 8 characters and fight random enemys wich was kinda fun it even had a final boss wich would have a random chance of apearing, idk if its a hoex or not but its a block mario robot)
I have fond memories of these. I was really young, so I didn't really know what I was watching. If it had Five Nights in the title, I clicked it. But this is really one of those "so bad it's good" games. The MS Paint graphics and kinda weird gameplay are oddly charming. It's a fond memory of mine, and it'll be in the back of my mind forever, resurfacing whenever vaguley mentioned.
I kinda like how triple troubles instrumental is playing while he is talking. That is one thing I like, FNF mods are not that serious when it comes to copyright issues and claims. But to actually talk about the video, it’s a decently well made FNAF fan series for being a recreation created by a kid trying to learn coding through that project.
9:06 more elaboration on how Freddy works in FNAF1: when he is at your door, he will basically *always* take the first attempt to move into the office possible every successful move roll he gets. *however,* he is straight-up not allowed to move while your camera is on 4B. period. ie, even when your camera is down, if he is in 4B and your camera is on 4B he is incapable of moving into your office. this is a semi-obscure *and intended* mechanic that is referred to by the community as Camstalling. and it's also important to note that Foxy does not care about having the camera *on him specifically,* having the cameras up *period* has a chance to affect and slow down Foxy, but the best way you can ensure that is by flipping your camera up and down as fast as possible while still doing everything else, because it's not only a very exact point the camera has to be up to temporarily freeze foxy, but the exact point is also random every period and can range anywhere from being under a second to over 2 seconds, i think even longer than that, which is why it's so difficult to consistently freeze Foxy.
22:18 Plays Five nights at sonic's 4 alternate edition, its not the exact same game Lorewise, but its very similar to basic fnas 4, just tweaked to be better

My time with the FNaS Dev Team and with Team Cyantix is something I still hold dear to this day and have created memories that I will never forget. i ADORE the art style of the early FNAS games. it's not "good" in any conventional way, but just by looking at the game, you can see exactly what era of the internet it belongs to, and what kind of person it was made by. the fact that a lot of it was initially drawn on flipnote studio is just the icing on the cake, too!
im pretty into the series as a whole but theres a secret in the collection that i think doesnt exist anymore, so imma get into it

The disclaimer at every fnas game always brings me so much nostalgia.

I am getting a severe case of deja vu
Ya know, it’s funny. I was gonna make a video on all the FNaS games earlier in the year, but ended up scrapping it because I lost interest in the project. Glad someone with far more credentials and editing skill than me was able to get on out though! Fun little fact I learned though, I actually asked TheCyVap himself some questions for extra info on the series, and the famous inside joke that started it all was a comic he made of the Fnaf 1 characters hiding in the Fnaf 1 office from Sonic.exe, which feels perfectly in line with the tone and vibe of the series.
I remember being so invested with the series back in the day, I’m not as involved as I once was, but this series is still part of my top 5 purely out of nostalgia for the franchise, I’m glad to have been a member of this fanbase

i'm a bit late to replying but the reason everyone looks at it that way is because it's the only game in the ENTIRE series that was made official to feature stolen and uncredited assets, mixed with a horrendous art style that looks like scribbles even more than the ORIGINAL games in the series. the game also didn't follow the lore in the slightest, to the point where character names were completely wrong too. idk how it was ever made official.

DUDEEEEEEE, this is like my personal favorite FNaF fan-series of all time. Even if the games are considered crappy, they're so fucking charming.
I wonder why.

Seeing fnf vs. Sonic.exe and hearing triple trouble in the background was really surprising and cool lol also great video!
While the early games suck honestly Maniac Mania is a really great game and really shows the progress they’ve made in terms of game making and art skills. I’m pretty not only is every single clone/animatronic from the official games are there but also there’s a few from the cancelled games and it is just really polished and is really fun. There is a new version being made but I’m not sure if it got canceled or not since the last version was made a few years ago

This series feels somewhat personal to me, as I've talked to CyVap multiple times despite not being friends with the guy. (Our convos were never really thorough, and I doubt he remembers me now, but I still vividly remember having talked to him.)
I actually found this series through him commenting on an old piece of art I had made of my own Five Nights at Sonic's idea, and I was a fan of the series ever since.
It's really nice to see someone talk about this series in a retrospect, and it's a treat watching the art evolve over the years. (Especially comparing it to CyVap's art nowadays, like seriously, it looks pretty damn good now!)
Don't really have much else to say.

An honest thanks and props to you for delving this deep into the FNAS games and their background. Not many people give this sort of thing enough, let alone any light, and you did them justice.
