The J17 is difficult to classify as an aeroplane for its Multidimensional capabilities. It can fly, within the earths atmosphere while also travel to outer space. It can also be driven on ground as a tank as well sail the ocean both as submarines and surface ships.

The FA-50 can out handle larger fighters, It has similar speed to many at Mach 1.5, and with upgrade engines it can approach Mach 2.0
FA50 has the glitch of a F16 system and that was its advantage compared to mk tejas .. A pilot of FA50 could be flown an F16 fighter jet within a very short time only... maybe for this very moment the mk tejas had the bvram capacity and for now that was its advantage against FA50 ... meanwhile , the FA 50 will be fitted the same bvraam as it is scheduled for upgrade.. The FA50 2.0 version which are offered to malaysia and other countries for export purposes..,
On Tejas jet you can use indian , Russian, us , France , European missiles
And our special missile BRAHMOS NG
FA-50 block 20 will come in 2026 and that too with added cost not free.

You are correct ... Malaysia requires more FLIT (Fighter Lead-In-Trainer) than a combat aircraft. LCA is a secondary role to the procurement as the main intention is to replace Hawk 108/208 (soon to be retired) plus Aermacchi MBB-339 (just retired). LCA roles as interceptor and ground attack aircraft is not as big as FLIT roles. They have F/A-18D and SU-30MKM to handle the combat aircraft roles until next procurement for MRCA within 5-10 years. FA-50/T-50 fits into that requirements. Many people specially Indian may think that Tejas is better, but the requirements is more for FLIT than LCA, even IAF doesnt use Tejas for FLIT. They only requires 10 LCA in addition to 8 FLIT. The 10 LCA doesn't even fit for a squadron of fighter with all the BVR and advance radar yet. That is the current F/A-18D and SU-MKM roles or the next MRCA. Ukraine war has shown that pilot is more important than the plane it self ... some countries may loan or sell surplus plane and arms/missiles, if needed ... but able pilots are more important. That where FA-50 is better choice than Tejas.
I laugh when Indian nationalists says Tejas is cheaper. No this isn't correct. In price range, both are similar. But this isn't just about price of the jet, it's the whole system with MRO and long run cost. Countries buying FA-50 are mostly former F-5 and current F-16 operators. What HAL Tejas is offering is same that of F-16, they're not looking to replace F-16 with FA-50 or Tejas. All these countries buying FA-50 are replacing aging Hawk LIFT jet or wants trainers for F-16 that also act as light combat for bombing campaign as they all have limited F-16 and other fighters in fleet.
By that time, we will have Tejas mk 2, TEDBF and AMCA
The FA-50 is not a teainer turned fighter. That's the T-50/TQ-50. The FA-50 is a full fledged light fighter aircraft. FA-50 is also combat proven now. Philippine airforce FA-50PH equiped with unguided bombs dropped on ISIS wannabes. Other countries are also buying it over Tejas.

EXPESNIVE BUT RELIABLE..

Plus potential for supersonic cruise air to ground and air to surface (ship) missiles that was demonstrated by Korea last summer.
Given other ASEAN nations (Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand) already operate FA50 and also they have all placed additional orders strongly influenced RMAF decision. The interoperability of parts, maintenance services and weapon systems would offer an invaluable advantages to the ASEAN nation in the face if territorial dispute brought about by China in the region. Brunei and Singapore is on the list of next buyers as US F35 officially supports FA50 as trainer for F16 and F35 platforms.

Yes, RMAF selected FA50 but their finance ministry have lot of objection. One of them is beyond allocated budget.

No. A Korean newspaper has reported it - but we have had fake news from the Korean press before. Also claims that the Chief of the Malaysian Air Force has said the FA 50 is his selection - but it is the tender board and government, not the air force chief who makes the decision, and the reason for the decision normally has to be justified. The official announcement has not been made by the Malaysian tender board, so the tender hasn't been awarded.

Most of the countries who bought it, neede a advance trainer which can used to patrol and also can be used to train pilots for there f16 and other american fighters, who has the same configuration. Aslo it was built in collaboration with lockheed martin....so theres a lot of under the table work going on. Nobody wants to give up there dominance, to some new commer.
And as i said tejas mk1a is much better than the fa50, i really dont know why you guys doesn't want to believe it....

Indian government, HAL and other private & public sector industries need to do much better in terms of promotion of their equipment and technologies. The only reason other countries feel hesitant about Indian equipment is because the indian homegrown industries are much younger than western or western backed countries and Russia. Moreover their equipments stood the test of time and wars but India was mostly reliant on foreign eequipments during it's wars in 47,62,65,71,99. India's homegrown industry came into effect from late 2000s and saw rapid boom during 2016 onwards.

Some facts about JF17 -
1) Dubai 2021, LIMA 2019, Bahrain 2016, each time the Indian Tejas participated in an air show, the Pakistani team cancelled their JF17 participation after ceding the participation fee
Dubai 2023 is the first time, due to induction of jf17 block 3, that pakistan air force finally felt comfortable showcasing their JF17 alongside the Indian Tejas. Speaks volumes about Pakistani air force’s trust in their jf17
2) The manufacturing country China does not use jf17 and only exports it to poor countries
3) Even after buying 150 jf17 jets, the Pakistan Air Force still relies mainly on their old American f16 and has also started buying Chinese J10 fighter, acknowledging their dissatisfaction with this junk jf17
4) The jf17 block 1 and 2 do not have AESA radar, no in flight refueling, only two dimensional fly by wire, all metal body causing high weight, low thurst weight ratio, older electronics and only Chinese weapons to fire
5) The new block 3 jf17 variant has a cheaper air cooled AESA radar unable to operate at max power and hence lower range. Further, block 3 retains the same old Russian rd93 based engines, uses pod based electronic warfare as well as same metal body and cheap build quality as older block 1 & 2
6) JF17 does not have sensor fusion capability and nor any active/shape stealth features to cater to the advancements in technology for going beyond the fourth generation of fighter aircrafts
7) The all metal airframe has poor manufacturing quality resulting in an availability of approx 40% for Pakistan Air Force
The performance and reliability of jf17 is so bad that both export customers, Myanmar as well as Nigeria air forces have grounded this aircraft
The availability numbers of Pakistani jf17 are mostly hidden by Pakistan Air Force, but Myanmar and Nigerian air forces are more vocal about their dissatisfaction. These have been detailed in pentapostagma as well as irrawaddy
8) Contrary to this, the Indian Air Force is impressed with the performance numbers of their baseline Tejas variant over the past four years, so much so that they have placed orders for 83 additional Tejas aircraft in improved mk1a configuration and ordering another lot of 97 more
9) The Tejas aircraft is also evolving further with the mk2 variant as well as a naval variant called TEDBF, both of which incorporate sensor fusion and more fifth generation technologies
70 percent of the Aircraft is made from 8 different countries. This is reduced the reliability of tejas when at war time as spare parts are impossible to get and it makes tejas a non Indian creation with only 30 percent made in india like logo tires and the frame like all the non critical stuff 🤣
India says it's 100% homegrown high tech weapon and best multi-role fighter. While, T-50 or FA-50 is just American tech. Then when Malaysia ask HAL to replace Israelis parts from Tejas, HAL told Malaysia that it will take time for Indian sourced parts. This immediately proven themselves India isn't so high tech.

Its purely a political decision on Malaysia's part. The Tejas is a highly capable aircraft, that is very affordable, simple to operate and maintain, capable of mounting modern weapon systems, good endurance, while being easy to manufacture .
It is not a super high-end cutting edge stealth fighter like the F-22, but it is extremely ADEQUATE for any modern military aviation mission it is geared for and its pilot is briefed for. Adequacy is a quality people ignore these days.

Tejas is tested in Desert of Thar where temperature peak was 55celcius. Tejas was tested in Himalayas (Leh Ladakh) when temperature was 35celcius below zero. Tejas tested in skys of Indian oceans. Its tested in area of highest rain fall areas ( Mawsynram and Cherrapunji). Its target testing was also done at 5000-8000 meter high mountains of Himalayas. After those experiments and experience Tejas got Final operation clearance.
It seems HAL failed in marketing especially spending on lobbing (managing kick back fund) to handle corruption at buyer's end.

@@dinosutra well, the issue is that Poland is paying for AMRAAM and AIM-9x integration for the FA-50 so that will be a block 20 option. Not sure if India can compete with that. Also, South Korea has a smaller version of the Brahmos (since it is common Russian technology) that is in development.

India is a newbie in arms industry. And tejas is a new jet, with no proven record compared to fa50 with American technology.
These buyers are spending billions of dollars, and in arms industry, reliability is key.
For the new comers/technology to enter the global arms industry, they have to offer a significantly attractive deal for buyers to take risk. India failed to do that in this instance. Having a slight edge in tech (claimed by many keyboard warriors in this chat) is irrelevant.
If you look at recent arms deal S.Korea managed to obtain, they include merits such as tech transfer, local manufacturing, etc.
S.Korea understands their offer must be more attractive since they are relatively new to the scene.
Try to learn from what others are doing, rather than discrediting their success.
There has been recent reports of fa-50 crashes over the world. Already 6 of them. Tejas has been crash free for over 5000 hours of sorties. So your analogy doesn't hold true. Before discrediting any facts try to learn from them

The job of T-50 is merely for training purposes. But as the deal suggests Malaysia is looking for combat ready aircrafts not some trainers. In your comments there is not a single line where you describe the hard points where KA-50 or T-50 overcomes the Tejas. You only point out aww India is newbie this that but no real world problems. So I think it's Malaysia's taxpayer's loss nothing else to go for KA-50. The price the capabilities KA-50 offers is good for trainer aircrafts but not with combat ready aircrafts.
