I'm starting to think that Simon has a under the table deal with raid shadow legends to mention them as often as possible no matter if it's in a positive or negative light
I've often speculated on that very idea. It's brought up at the most random, yet convenient moments. I think Raid Shadow Legends has the appropriate understanding of the "there's no such thing as bad publicity" advertising model. People have probably signed up for that game just to confirm or disprove the elite-level shittiness of that game, just because Simon has emphasized how awful it is. No one can believe how bad it really is...until they, and their credit card numbers, are already in too deep.

Fun Fact about nutritional info: all numbers are rounded down to the closest gram and the serving size is carefully calculated to optimize that effect. This means something can have .9 grams of sugar per serving but still be able to claim they have 0 grams of sugar. This is how TicTacs are "sugar free".

That depends on where you live. It's true in most countries but a number have a stick up their butts about misinformation.
Like the U.K. the round down rule applies for some reason for advertising and packaging promotion, so something with 0.9 grams of sugar per serving can legally be advertised as "sugar free".
However the effectiveness of this is diminished by the fact you have to on the packaging, place all the nutritional information down to 1 decimal place for a at a glance nutrient information label.
So hilariously, "sugar free" Tic Tacs have to put that each serving have 0.9 grams of sugar per 1 gram serving on the boxes they sell you.
It applies to other stuff. A few years ago omega-3 was the fad wonder food. It's a fatty acid found in fish and is good for all kinds of stuff I probably won't care about untill my unhealthy lifestyle catches up with me.
But it's also found in trace amounts in flour, and when I say trace think 0.001 of a gram of omega-3 per gram of uncooked plain white flour. Biscuits (cookies) generally use white flour as the primary ingredient, go figure, and the biscuit makers tried to advertise the biscuits as a source of omega-3, small problem, you would have to eat about 25 kg (55 pounds) of chocolate chip cookies to get 1/10 of the omega-3 found in a small portion of grilled fish. The food standards agency lost their minds and banned such health claims because it would physically kill you to eat enough biscuits to get one good dose of omega-3. Introducing a minimum amount of a nutrient to be allowed for advertising purposes.

As a person who sold accident and injury insurance for a time, not only is your life worth a specific amount but your entire body has been itemized and has a specific dollar amount that will be compensated on its loss, sometimes all the way down to how many knuckles you have left of fingers after an accident ect.

The most fucked up part of the Pinto stuff is that the safety of their owners/drivers is mostly out of their hands as the issues stemmed from being rear ended so even if the best drivers in the world were the only ones behind their wheels Ford didn't seem to account for the shitty drivers actually rear ending those poor Pinto folks.
Yep. I got rear ended when the road I was driving on had been reasphalted and there was a rain right after. cue a sheen of oil and water over a smoother than usual surface. My brakes wouldn´t catch, until they did as I pumped them and the same happened to the guy behind me. He had held distance, and it didn´t make a damn difference. we were at an intersection, no cars coming from the crossing direction, no pedestrians, and I saw he wasn´t stopping and took my foot off the brake. we stopped about fifty feet past the intersection. Poor guy was in shock when I went to check on him but no one ws hurt. No real damage to the cars. If it had been a Pinto... Rear ending happens all the time. It doesn´have to be someone´s fault.
Yep. And this is the same motor company making new suv/trucks with combined brake-steering pump part's. God forbid you have a partial part malfunction mate, you now need to spend 700 dollars needlessly.

I've had airbags deploy on me twice before and let me tell you, they are always shown like this big soft and fluffy pillow coming in to save the day but really, it's a Kevlar bag with a grenade behind it. It's better than smashing your skull open on the windshield or steering wheel when you hit a concrete barrier going 75MPH, but only just.
To top it off, Airbags are one of the single most expensive individual parts of the vehicle to replace, often costing a few thousand dollars to replace at the very least. If your airbags deploy in an incident, the likelihood of your vehicle being totaled instantly skyrockets.
And sometimes they fix the rest of the car but don't bother with the airbag, then resell the car and don't disclose that to the buyer. A lot of teenagers' first cares or poor adults' second-hand cars don't have functioning airbags and almost no one ever mentions that possibility. There was an accident where a teenager was killed and the airbag compartment was full of bits of paper, the parents were heartbroken. Guess it's a good thing when they declare the car totaled, at least it makes reselling it w/o airbags less likely.
Simon: when you have empty boxes and need to do an ad, fill the box with small Legos or other small things that don't make loud sounds (but you can still shake). Then glue the box back and you'll always have a stage box.

Something should be added to the "Pinto Madness" story: Lee Iacocca (the CEO of Ford at the time of the Pinto) repeatedly told his lieutenants that "Safety doesn't sell."
He was known to *fire* executives that proposed improving the safety of their cars beyond what was bare-bones minimum to get the things to roll off the line without actively exploding from sheer cheapness.
The lack of a safety culture at Ford was what killed those Pinto owners. Simon/Danny have a point about companies, though: they ARE obligated to make as much money for their stockholders as they possibly can within the law. It's not the companies' fault; they're sociopathic artificial constructs without morality, created to generate profit and nothing else. It's the GOVERNMENT'S job to hold their feet to the fire and keep them from killing people to make money. Unregulated capitalism taken to its logical extreme is fascism.
Totally makes sense. My dad worked in quality control at a factory that made piston heads. He told me that Volkswagen lawnmowers had tougher quality specs to meet than Ford. Remember, piston heads go up and down the cylinders, the metal expands and contracts with the temp. That is what he checked. He worked there from the late 80s to around 2009.
That's actually a modern invention. Generating profit at the expense of the planet and consumers, that is.

On a cruiseship engine you can use pistons with an inch or more of clearance from the cylinder walls, where a weed whacked wouldn't have a piston if you allowed a inch of cylinder clearance. Your point stands that a volkswagen(I didn't know they made lawnmower) lawnmower is held to higher quality and tighter specs than a Ford Vehicle but I think you didn't quite understand the reasoning behind it. ( To be clear, I don't know the actual clearance of a cruiseship piston but I guarentee its 1000s of times larger than a weed whackers piston clearance and thus the ship engine is significantly easier to manufacture, assuming you have the tool to do that

I worked at an office that was allegedly very shady. It allegedly had mob ties. Smoking had been banned from most public spaces even bars. The sales force though was comprised of mostly heavy smokers. It was allegedly a soul crushing telemarketing company that scammed people to pay hundreds of dollars for magazine subscriptions that cost a tenth the price. One salesperson would start smoking and within minutes the person next to them would light up and so on and so forth. By the time the last person would finish their cigarette the first person would start smoking another cigarette. The walls were painted an off-white color. I never realized this until one of the managers decided to wash the walls on a slow day. It was then we realized the walls were not supposed to be terracotta.
High damages in america have more to do with the fact that in america 'psychological damage' is something you can be awarded damages for, while in for example the Netherlands, thats hardly a thing at all. A jury might play some role in that, but they arent the reason it happens or doenst happen. Some countrys just dont attach a monetary value to psychological damage in itself (not talking about costs for a psychologist etc.)

The irony being the Pinto was actually a fantastic little car. Cheap, efficient to run and fun-to-drive. And if they'd just FIXED the damn thing, it would've been remembered as such. Instead, it's remembered in the way Simon described it.

Less than 1/2 gram per serving, and they get to define what a serving is themselves. Pretty sure American sugary cereal companies could define a serving as one piece and declare themselves zero sugar. And still be "part of a balanced breakfast".

It's funny. when I was younger, I had every rubbish car at some point in time. '74 Pinto, '76 Gremlin, '91 yugo, '81 Citation, '81 Sierra (that broke down on the way home from the lot), BUT, the best buy I ever made was an '81 Mercury Marquis that I spent $300 USD on. It had nearly 400,000 miles on it, and I put another 150 k down. Finally, one day, the engine caught on fire. I got out, and said 'Well, I got my $300 worth.'

The rediculous thing is, these idiots dont realize a reputation has value and their reputation is shit. All american cars have a shit rep these days but ford is by far the scumiest of them all. In fact, my entire family, extended family included hates ford and we dont care much for american cars in general. I've never ownd a american car, and probably never will. I do like my company car well enough, but it's a chevy. I probably would refuse a ford even for free tbh, id just use my toyota, and keep the gas card.

Cars were a lot cheaper in the 70's. They were rolling gas cans, but they were cheap. It became a running joke that any car that exploded in a movie must have been a Pinto.
Also, my truck was one of the many Hondas affected by the recall. It took literally HOURS at the dealership to get it fixed, and now my dash rattles loudly if I get up to interstate speeds. So I get to be the car in the slow lane that everyone blows past. I should get a snail sticker to put on the back as a warning.

Ford had to pay my cousin out after a bad accident in a Ford Explorer. The crossbar wasn't built with the correct metal strength, and the ONE THING that's supposed to help save you in a roll-over, crumpled and squished their so badly that the jaws of life were needed, as well as an induced coma.
We thought they were going to die... It was horrible. They cannot walk ever again, but they made a sweet, sweet penny from the lawsuit against Ford. I don't think I have EVER prayed for anything harder than my cousin living. It was like a 24/7 thing. I constantly asked God not to take my cousin.
Happily, they just celebrated their birthday, and they are married with a wonderful little one. They bought a lot, and had a custom-built house fit for their wheelchair. My cousin is such an amazing person, and I am so glad they're still here.
Seriously, I love that family member -- and you are right -- Ford is a POS, known for their flawed designs and failure to recall vehicles. They'd rather pay the fines and let people die or lose the loss of their lower bodies than to recall all the vehicles they make poorly. They have more money than God, so they'll just pay you off.
My cousin didn't even have to go to court. They were just like "Yeah....We knew about that.... How much do you want?" and settled for a huge amount. They REALLY, REALLY, REALLY didn't want to go to court or make it a public charade. My cousin doesn't have to work, but they do because they have a passion in life for their field of profession. I'm telling you - they are amazing. AMAZING.
Also, if it seems like I've given little detail - you're right!!! I'm trying to be as vague and whatnot as possible, because my cousin did sign an NDA - and I don't want them to get in trouble.

Just wanted to point out that Tic Tacs are also said to have 0 grams of sugar per serving but it's only because they are so tiny, they are almost entirely made of sugar but based on the guidelines they can say 0 grams of sugar per serving. Just because there is 0 grams of sugar per serving doesn't mean sugar-free so if the universe was filled with Magic Spoon there's most likely tonnes of sugar at that point but still 0 grams per serving. Sorry for going on such a tangent but thought it was worth pointing out. Love your videos and I'm subscribed to most of your channels, keep up the great work Fact Boy!!! 👍

I believe he was referring to the personification of corps by giving them the qualities of a people like with wendys twitter and such; and less the legal definition of a corp, but I also thought this when he said it.

Had a recall on my car for brake lines. Since I've been to the stealership where they said it wasn't necessary to replace and just greased it a little bit, I've had whole brake system failure... twice!!! From the same.exact.spot where the line should have been replaced. I'm suing those bastards.

I think a good Magic Spoon point to hit is how there are Two kinds of typical cereal: 1) kid’s cereal that’s delicious and calorie laden and 2) old people cereal that tastes like despair and cardboard but is crammed with nutrients. Magic Spoon is amazingly BOTH SIMULTANEOUSLY.
I remember the first time I was shopping for breakfast cereal and checked the nutrient panel for fiber content.
I felt very grown up.
Ironically, the children's cereals are generally more "diabetic friendly" than the "good for you" cold cereal. About half the carbs... When a can of soda is the same carbs as a half cup serving of a "healthy" cereal...

We have bench trials here in the US, meaning it's only a judge that reviews the facts of the case. It's up to the person on trial to choose this option. Personally, I feel like only idiots or people that can strongly sway the jury, don't choose this option..... Because most people are extremely stupid.
the Jury only determines guilt/fault, the punishment/fine is given out by the judge.
Civil juries can also determine financial damages.

My 05 Honda had to have that recall for the airbags done. Didn’t matter that it was going to the scrapyard the next week, they insisted they had to do it in case someone takes the airbags from the junk yard.

Ok, so. I am not a lawyer, just a....legal enthusiast, I guess? But my understanding of US jury trials is that the jury is the finder of fact while the judge is the finder of law. So the jury will say, "These facts are true, therefore X." Meanwhile, the judge can say, "That's great, but unfortunately the law says Y." That's why you can have the jury award a huge-ass award but the judge cuts it down to be in line with laws and precedent.
