my best memory i remember late 2006 picking flax when i got home from school every day for god knows how long to buy my first whip only to get lured for it a week later lmao.
Picking Flax was the first money maker that had any real returns for me. I learned it from a guy in school. Sad days man he passed away a few months back.

The times were magical. at the time I was 8.I used to pick up spades on the 2nd floor of lumbridge general store and sell em downstairs. 2 gp each. My friends told me about this mythical place, surrounded by goblins, where you could find iron daggers on the floor. I thought they were bs`ing me. I had to find out wether it was true or not. I wandered for hours and hours until I finaly found a little house, where I saw a little sword lying on the floor. I picked up the dagger, got back to the store and sold it for 14gp. It was the happiest day of my life..
Oh the memories.. hurrying home from school to play asap! Having PC restrictions from your parents etc.. Yet we deny it and keep playing / watching video's, i stopped totally in like begin 2017, started 2008, but I've watched videos every.single.day since 2011.. strange tbh.. when I go to sleep I just leave a vid on and fall asleep every single night..
And Rspses.. with these graphics and custom items lol! I loved worldscapeblitz.. soulsplit was ok, spawnscape614 was ok, battlescape was lol, Near reality was ok, oh I played so many.. deviouspk/arteropk.. y'all can name some?
I played Runescape in 2004-2005 as a F2P player and became a member in early 2006.. infact my parents were so against spending money for an “online service” that I had to save up allowance money just to send CASH in the mail. It took like 2 weeks for them to get my mail order for Members and I remember it being one of the best moments of my childhood. I remember when slayer came out, and I remember when Construction came out as well. Remind you, this pre-dates when the internet didn’t contain much information on the game. Mining coal was my “way of making bank” I mined to 60 mining to buy a 100k Dragon Longsword, and I felt like a boss. A year later, I trained my wcing up (by cutting maples lol, effecient right). And got 60 wcing for yews. I cut enough yews to purchase a Dragon Med that was 1mil at the time (a ton of money back then). I was a boss until I got scammed by the “hollow reed” scam (now untradeable).
My first membership (3 moths) was by cash too, because my parents did not trust the card paying system. I remember checking my email every single day and just waiting to see the mail from jagex! After that I also bought membership with some sort of gas station card system, and also text message. Btw, I still remember my first day as a member (2006), Went straight to buy a granite maul, and a ham robe set which looked cool back then for some reason, and after that I spent the rest of the day at duel arena just wanting to use the granite maul special attack all day long
I remember when majority of the people in any server were below level 50. I remember seeing a player in level 70s in F2P, and was shocked. This is right after the RS boom. Not sure whether it was Jagex advertising the game more aggressively, or just the fact that number of families were starting get PCs with AOL dial up. I remember literally everyone I knew had started playing the game around the 2004 era. I remember a friend taking from Varrock south-west mines to the wild for the first time. I remember feeling so confused and shocked. Confused because such a simple path was unknown to most people, and shocked because I was surprised how big the Varrock city was. You can image how that would be case for someone who had played nothing but couple of flash games and Doom II. Open world was such a crazy concept for most kids back then. The fun part was that majority of the people really didn't know how to play the game. Everyone was figuring things out. That made the games fun and adventurous. When I play a game now, everyone is following some guide to min-max. It really takes the adventure out of most games. After couple of months of playing RS, i heard was WoW, but most kids couldn't afford that $15 monthly membership fee so kids stuck with RS.
Dude, I played this game like I was an Ironman. I find that way of playing far more enjoyable and nostalgic of the pre-G.E. days. I didn’t trade people because I didn’t trust them.
I remember range pkers were absolutely feared back then due to the magic shortbow. Also we didn't have ava's devices or chinchompas, or crossbows, so training range was an arduous task. Those who had high range in the wildy were rare, and feared. Good times
jagex should setup a dimension/time travel minigame of sorts that allows players to fight early rs2 models in some sort of way that the champions are fought
No matter how oldschool current osrs is, nothing will beat going on miniclip.com and jumping on after school when i was a kid and those beautiful yet basic graphics man. Complete nostalgia
the fun of playing runescape was we were all pretty much noobs. killing hill giants was an actual money maker ffs lol. i wish i could play back in the day again just to experience it because now most of us only do the best xp and money methods
Not sure how I got to watching old school runescape videos, but glad I found this. I'm about to be 29 at the end of this month, and this game was a huge part of my childhood - thanks for the video.
Playing Runescape for the first time in 2004 had lil 12 year old me blown away. I hadn’t known a game like this could even exist until then, playing with others on a huge map doing so many different things. World of Warcraft was only just starting out and I had no idea what an mmo really was(and didn’t get into it until Wrath of the Litch King). I ended up spending weeks around Lumbridge before venturing anywhere else because I was scared I’d die and lose my stuff haha.
It's all about the endgame content now. It kinda sucks for me right now cuz im in-between kinda being 95 cb and havent really done any bossing or pvm raids and stuff. I've played on and off as a F2P since like 06 and just last fall got my first membership. Truly exciting feeling doing so many things for the first time and knowing I'm still months away from starting a new grind toward endgame gear and other achievements
Oh it most defo is easyscape. Never achieved 99mage so fast before the catacombs existed. But compared to RS3..... its not that easyscape. Compared to 2005. Boy do i miss those days
This is awesome man! I started playing in late 04 so I feel like I barley remember the monster and the items looking like that, but I do remember when the new skills came out like slayer and what not... and barrows... good times
not even close to the same game as it is now. Mostly the efficiency factor you mentioned along with the entirety of the game being a mystery.. no youtube guides/very few written quest guides on the internet. I remember begging my dad to buy a 'gold making secrets' book off of ebay for my Christmas present because I was so desperate to get money just to blow it instantly on pking supplies lmao. All in all just the most fun experience you can have as a kid going into a brand new world you know nothing about and exploring, couldnt wait to come home from school every day and get back on. Thanks for the memories Runescape.
Funny thing is, Zezima and The Old Nite were just ahead of their time. In these days they would just be another maxed player among many. Perhaps they time travelled back in time and took the current efficiency mindset with them :P
I remember when I get off of tutorial island in 2004. Accidentally attacked a woman in lumbridge from clicking the screen and killed her. I was talking to the npc and thinking that they attacked me first and it was a real person. I may have been the noobiest noob in history back then.
RIP The Old Nite. He helped me out in the wilderness, took me from level 50 Wildy when I was level 20, took me back to edgevillle which was a new town to me and said there ya go, enjoy and went back to pking. I miss the old community..
I really appreciate runescpae for the simple fact that its one of veryyyyy few games from my childhood that still have an active player base and it hasn't really changed at all. Its the same interface and same game pretty much.
I wish I could go back to having no knowledge of the game and starting fresh. Those were the days. When you made 10k from killing goblins for hours and bragged to your friends that you were so rich compared to them.
I remember every bit of this, I was so addicted to the 2004 version. I love how simple it all looked (look at the Hill Giants, Moss Giants, Fire Giants and Hellhounds). And indeed, there was no UA-cam (and Grand Exchange) back then, so all I did to get some money was mining coal in de mining guild. I do miss those times, but I am happy to say that I am addicted again, thanks to the Mobile release. Thanks for the video, it brought back some memories!
I had a lemon pc back then and the loading took ages thanks to the wonderful noise of dialup. Older and gaming to this day, thanks for reminding me of this oldie:)
Wow, the memories... buying and using the map that was sold at general stores, i believe that's what it was called at the time, to actually walk/run your way around. The feeling you got once you understood where each town was in relation to each other was an achievement in itself. I think I made my first 2m cutting yews, fletching to long bows, rcing the natures... etc etc.... I also mined 4k coal and fished, I think, 2k lobsters in Karamja, banking them at Fally and then selling them in the gardens.
i remember when Barrows was first released, I saw a member walking around in the Veracs Brassard, gilded plate legs, gilded square shield and a whip and thought it was the coolest thing ever. He was walking around in a f2p world.
I remember when high end players would hang out north of Falador in that grassy area, saw so many cool people there. Also the party room in Camelot was such a nostalgia hit lol
That trade screen at 4:05 gave me some serious nostalgia. I can literally remember the feeling of excitement from just trading any items with other player, so weird
i loved this vid, i never got to play my own account till 08 when we got internet (lived in rual Australia) but sometimes when id go to friends houses after school we would both play on their account, first time i saw the game was 04. now im the only one that still plays out of all my friends at 24 yrs old.
The old party room was always bumping. I remember spending a lot of my time around Camelot and seers village bank back then. I also remember how expensive everything was. When I bought my dragon legs they were 2mil.
I was 8/9 years old when I started playing, and I still remember the day hunting dropped as the first new skill. It was so simple and relaxing back then. Still playing now but even OSRS doesn't come close to the original
3:45... that's it. That's how it was when I first played the game. I wish I could play that version of the game again, even if only for a day. Maybe it's just nostalgia, but I prefer the archaic textured look over the clean flat colors of modern OSRS. I wish there was a plugin to make the game look like how it did in 2004.. but there'll never be. And even if there could be, the old models would clash too much with all the new areas. It just wouldn't be consistent. Anyway, I'm glad we can at the very least look at these old screenshots.
I actually didn't experience this era, as I started in 2006, but even then YT was fairly new and thus it didn't spoil the experience of knowing everything about the game. Really wish I had discovered the game sooner.
I love the series bro! I think in the next one, you should touch up on how trading went down, with bank sales, 2nd level banks, how most items had specific townships (high end in seers, bulk trading in varrock, gems/ore falador, etc.) I preach about how great the game was back in the day, all the time, because people fail to realize there was not a Grand Exchange.. you actually had to work or find a specific person to trade... Heck, even GP had a lesser impact on the game. most people wanted barters for trading back then, in my books and experiences! It was almost rare to find people with matching armor, head to toe. Mithril, black, and rune med helms as a kit. it was a wild time. Quest guides were few and far between, and youtube wasnt around, so you had friends doing quests together and figuring it all out. those simply WERE the golden days of runescape, and i'll never be able to forget just how amazing it was then. Its crazy to think that i started playing in the third grade, and now im old enough to where i cant even be on my parents insurance anymore.... Times truly flew, and I miss $5.00 membership.
Oh my God I remember the days when you were excited to trade bars for the items they made! (Smithing hasn't been an outdated skill ever since gear progressed past d med/square or anything nooo it's completely fine!)
I will do 2005 as well. I want to do fight caves and DKS. Barrows is fairly the same method as today, tbh, but I can still make it if that's what people want to see!
I'm 32 now, and remember playing this game before members released... 2d sprites, bank-standing to buy/sell with colorful text, and a voyage to Crandor marking the final quest. I have so much nostalgia for this game, and although RS3 is very different, I love seeing how rs has evolved. I think it is unfortunate, however, that high level bossing largely requires bug exploits (4taa) and continuous gear switching in battle. Learning these play styles has not been enjoyable for me, nor are the communities that generally teach these mechanics very friendly or patient.
I remember getting my first pc around that time and being late to the party, few of my friends had been playing it for a while and it was all they'd talk about at school. Was my first mmo and I thought it was amazing you could talk to other people. I used to be really social in mmos back then and it felt like there was a really good community. Nowadays if I ever play an mmo I basically play solo. Also I still had dial up at the time and not broadband so it took forever to load. When we did get broadband it didn't seem that much faster lol.
Started playing in early 2006. Completely miss the old interface. I bet Runescape would have way many more players now if they found servers from 2004-2006. Man, I miss those times.
I played rs 17 years ago at my boys and girls club and loved it. Unfortunately I havent played since 2010 and gave the account to my brother. The last time I logged on I had gotten a 10 year cape and that was it.
Ironically, I was somewhere in that pic of Zezima, was when one of the troll zone quests first came out, we used to follow the head honchos like Zezima as for some reason they had the directions on the quests long before the mass population of players lol
I want a 2004scape 😭😭😭😭 I miss the pre-farming, hunter, and construction days. People spamming in Fally and Varrock. I was 8-9 when I started. We took turns at the public library, making lines to each take a turn (we had either a 30-minute or 1-hiur block each to use the computer before it timed us out). It was fantastic. It seems like I didn't experience everything on this video, as perhaps some updates were made by the time I got on (like the bread, for example).
I remember getting members in 05. Sold lobsters to the fishing shop in catherby and was confused seeing people buy them out from 40-70 fishing until a friend told me about world 2. (I actually got my first rune weapon... a long sword this way. Up to that point I would use the mithril 2h sword that I proudly mined / smithed myself) Cut magic logs up to 85 and would often unsuccessfully pk with my friends using dds's and mithril armor. We all tried to pk a lvl 100+ guy training at magic battle axes and he cleared out all 4 of us one by one in multi... It was magical...
I started playing runescape 2 around 2004 xmas. I was f2p until bounty hunter caves came and i was able to purchase p2p with paybyphone. I remember that 1m cash was a lot, a simple rune scimitar was like having a whip now days. I don't say i'm the ''first'' player ever, but early 2005 i learned a method which was later known as ''drop trader hunting''. One day i was at varrock museum and i noticed how a player logged out behind the museum and 10 seconds later another account appeared to the spot where the previous player had logged. I noticed that items started to appear on ground and then i understood that the guy who logged was dropping items to it's alt account. So i started to camp at museum to see if others were doing the same thing and yes, people did appear there to drop their items to alt accounts. Then i started to camp at east varrock bank to look around if people tried to log out in the corners or something and if another player appeared to that spot. I waited 40 seconds before i would run to the spot, so the player could not log back into other account to loot his stuff back. I made millions just by that, best loot i was able to loot was green partyhat, but it was only worth around 1m back then.
My best memory from that era was my first grind of picking 1,000 flax and spinning them for enough money to equip a dragon longsword. Wanna say that was 06, cause I started in late 04, but was F2P for a long while.
Started in 2004 this video makes me sad. much preffered the old simple style of the game getting to old to keep up with all the new updates on osrs and cannot be bothered to learn it, have recently made a new regular account playing In the style of around 2006 just trained 35-48 agility at barbarian course most fun ive had on the game in years funnily enough
I stopped playing before the GE came, and was so surprised coming back with so much better armour etc, like I remember when dragon was the ultimate and was so expensive. I had to work hard for rune, it doesn't look excessively different but there's a lot more to it
rest in peace the old nite! my most memorable moment is when lillyuffie gave me a rune full helm trimmed or when i had just started and was walking to varrock getting lost and some random guy trades me and gives me full black armour and 4k cash!
"where is varrock?" God I haven't seen that typed in over 10 years. He definitely hit the nail on the head with this video. 2004-2007 was the golden age. No one knew what they were doing, lots of lost noobs around the land, people getting killed by the highway man, members were elite players f2p kids would ask for free shit from. None of us then knew how great the time was we were in until the final nail in coffin happened from Evolution of Combat update.
I didn't. I was probably walking around in full steel. I remember when I got my first black platelegs around christmas time. I begged my brother for them, I didn't even get them myself. But at least I was there :)
I remember having “girlfriends” in the game, and I would get excited when one would pop online. Eventually we would hang out at the wall in varrock, go into the sewers, or go cut wood in draynor. Simpler times, my friend. Magical times.
The best thing from back in the days is buying and selling stuff in falador park and varrock. I spended days there trying to sell my unidentified herbs ( left of the Eastern Falador bank. Every item had its own spot to sell. Those were the days.
Best money maker was probably merching, before GE and in-game prices on items :) also I remember looking up prices on RuneHQ prior to trading with other players. Also shops were used a lot more for simpler things, and runes and arrows etc. :)
You remember that the trade screen didnt have 2 step confirmation? Literally when both playeds accept once the trade was done, and there was no red exclamation point for removing items. My assed got scammed so hard back then lmao
Great content. Makes me remember when runescape was a simpler time. Keep up the 2004 era videos. You should make a "2004 account" like slayer musiq and look up the old updates. Would be amazing content.
i think the fun of it was not knowing anything
Coupled with the fact that RuneScape felt much bigger back then. It took me forever to unlock new teleport spells, and I had no idea agility affected run drain, so I was always walking everywhere. It felt like a whole world unto itself with mystery wherever you went.
@@DoubtX yeah.. the mystery.. dying to skeletons.. being clueless was the best

"- How do u mine black ore?
- U mean coal?
- No. For the armor..."
yeah i remember asking this too haha :DDD
Yeah, have you ever thought "where does black armor come from then?"
i originally became a member when i got 40 smithing so i could make gilded armor lmao.
I can trim all the armour you guys have!
LOL I got banned for that
The game is just too competitive and methodical. Everyone plays to be as efficient as possible (which I understand) but the simplicity of the game back then was the best times for sure.
Yea but back then we we're so young and had so much free time
Too much of that ruined the game imo
It's called min/maxing and it's what ruined the MMO genre.
2021 it’s not competitive it’s just an addiction of just playing it
100% !
Back when even the varrock sewer was loaded with players exploring and killing stuff down there
Falador park trading oh man
The days
My character probably had the black lung cause I’d mine coal and sell it to the highest bidder in the bank
The Golden days for sure!
The old elvarg, the pink shield skeletons, nostalgia......
I had a potato computer back then. Loading runescape took 15minutes. BUT IT WAS WORTH IT!
EVERY SINGLE MINUTE OF IT!
my best memory i remember late 2006 picking flax when i got home from school every day for god knows how long to buy my first whip only to get lured for it a week later lmao.
I like to think the flax fields were my first full time job hahaha
Picking flax in cammy lol
realitygaming322 lol true
yeah like 20-22k worth of flax lol man good times
Picking Flax was the first money maker that had any real returns for me. I learned it from a guy in school. Sad days man he passed away a few months back.

I agree.
I quit OSRS when Grand Exchange was released.
This is awesome man! I started playing in late 04 so I feel like I barley remember the monster and the items looking like that, but I do remember when the new skills came out like slayer and what not... and barrows... good times
I want the pre-2007 skeletons, ghosts, zombies and giants and maybe dragons
It's funny because on OSRS release day I was so upset it was the newer models hahah
I was too!!!
not even close to the same game as it is now.
MrCtwhat this is cute.
RIP The Old Nite. He helped me out in the wilderness, took me from level 50 Wildy when I was level 20, took me back to edgevillle which was a new town to me and said there ya go, enjoy and went back to pking. I miss the old community..
is there a emulator that would change your osrs to just look like this? honestly just the graphic change would be really satisfying. Worth money?
i made my first 1000 coins killing goblins at like 8 years old. i was super disappointed when it said 1000 coins instead of 1k gp
It was killing chickens for me and selling them to people standing around in the pen and buying them
Who can forget the cows? I was grinding those fuckers for days.
Keep making these videos dude, good stuff, very enjoyable
Love the content, brings back so many memories!
There's a server called 2004 scape where you can play rs in it's 04 version
This was almost 20 years ago.... wow does time fly by
Literally teared up watching this video :,)
I started back in 04 and you nailed it, thanks for the nostalgia trip
Man I started in 2004 good times and I’m loving these vids!
I just can't help looking back on these times. Truly the Golden Age of RuneScape and online gaming in general. It's hard to let go.
I had a lemon pc back then and the loading took ages thanks to the wonderful noise of dialup. Older and gaming to this day, thanks for reminding me of this oldie:)
I started playing on august 2004, and this video brought back some good memories, thanks :)
Glad I could help you relive some of those memories :)
Wow, the memories... buying and using the map that was sold at general stores, i believe that's what it was called at the time, to actually walk/run your way around. The feeling you got once you understood where each town was in relation to each other was an achievement in itself.
I think I made my first 2m cutting yews, fletching to long bows, rcing the natures... etc etc.... I also mined 4k coal and fished, I think, 2k lobsters in Karamja, banking them at Fally and then selling them in the gardens.
great content my dude. visuals, close ups, bravo.
3:45 imagine running into a player with the name Andrew now...never see those kinds of names
i remember when Barrows was first released, I saw a member walking around in the Veracs Brassard, gilded plate legs, gilded square shield and a whip and thought it was the coolest thing ever.
My heart strings were pulled on too man
I wish we could have old varrock back. :(
I would be so happy to go back to these days. So simple 🖤
Good video bro, nostalgic asf especially coming from a player such as myself that started around the rs2 beta period in 03/02
Wish I was around then, but at least I got to experience 2004 :)
Rargh then you sir are still hella lucky as the prime era of runescape I believe was from 03 to 07
i loved this vid, i never got to play my own account till 08 when we got internet (lived in rual Australia) but sometimes when id go to friends houses after school we would both play on their account, first time i saw the game was 04. now im the only one that still plays out of all my friends at 24 yrs old.
I started in 04 this is the best nostalgia ty for the clips and screenshots
I started runescape in 2004 and honestly, the game was so addicting that i even dreamed whit it lol.
Santa hat was the same price as rune set(200k).
I miss the older interfaces and graphics :(
me too :(
Lol I forgot about fatigue, carrying around the little sleeping bag and typing in the captcha
I think in the next one, you should touch up on how trading went down, with bank sales, 2nd level banks, how most items had specific townships (high end in seers, bulk trading in varrock, gems/ore falador, etc.)
I preach about how great the game was back in the day, all the time, because people fail to realize there was not a Grand Exchange.. you actually had to work or find a specific person to trade...
I used to know the old nite quite well, he made me one of the first rune 2h's in the game, way back in classic..
I'm jealous. I only hear nice things about him. I wish I could have met him
Oh my God I remember the days when you were excited to trade bars for the items they made! (Smithing hasn't been an outdated skill ever since gear progressed past d med/square or anything nooo it's completely fine!)
The nostalgia was so real.
Thankyou man 👌🏻
Loving the nostalgia vids man. Were you gonna stick to 2004 or would you keep going through bosses with best gear on their release, like barrows etc?
Drew Jeter I want him to go from 2004 through the years and then maybe start osrs
I will do 2005 as well. I want to do fight caves and DKS. Barrows is fairly the same method as today, tbh, but I can still make it if that's what people want to see!
@@Rargh Yeah I was thinking you could do a series where you go through all bosses in order with the same rules since you did the first 2 so far
The way it was done back was d scim, mag dart and mag short. rune set and d hide.
All the pics you showed had me telling myself "Yeah I remember that, holy shit" thanks for the memories.... Started in 03
*_Can't believe I clicked a video 55 seconds after uploading it and liking it as the first person._*
I can't commit breathen't in peace now
Thank you for having notifications on :D
@@Rargh np
Do you play Rune1? It's a dedicated 2004 server if you're interested in those types of vids.
Aren't private servers against runescapes rules??
YESSSS
How is rune1 doing, thought it didn't work out
so is rwt but we know what happened there lol
I cant even find rune1 anymore lol
Started playing in early 2006. Completely miss the old interface. I bet Runescape would have way many more players now if they found servers from 2004-2006. Man, I miss those times.
I started in 04 and its amazing I can now play it on my phone never gonna stop miss these days tho was much better times
I played rs 17 years ago at my boys and girls club and loved it. Unfortunately I havent played since 2010 and gave the account to my brother. The last time I logged on I had gotten a 10 year cape and that was it.
Ironically, I was somewhere in that pic of Zezima, was when one of the troll zone quests first came out, we used to follow the head honchos like Zezima as for some reason they had the directions on the quests long before the mass population of players lol
im just glad i got to speak to zezima himself. Had a good time talking about some questing he done before there were quest guides.
That's awesome. I once saw Zezima alone in Ardy bank, but he either had public chat off or just ignored me. Sad times :p
@@Rargh he streams on twitch some times. you might catch him and if you subscribe to his twitch you can request a link to his discord.
Oh my god I totally forgot some of those things but looking at that kalphite queen brings back some memories! And damn that fire giant too!
Oh id loooove to go back and play. Such nostalgic feels watching this
I want a 2004scape 😭😭😭😭
I miss the pre-farming, hunter, and construction days.
It's the inefficient times we remember the most!
I love the 2004 videos please make more like these xD
Oh yeah, what i meant to say that i was only f2p back then. And i hunted at world 3 which was f2p world.
BRING BACK OLD DEMON NOOOOOOOOOOOW
It really doesn`t sound like you reallllly experienced it bro. Appreciate it none the less!
I didn't. I was probably walking around in full steel. I remember when I got my first black platelegs around christmas time. I begged my brother for them, I didn't even get them myself. But at least I was there :)
This is the osrs I wanted
I remember getting the D chain drop from KQ together with a friend, back then it sold for over 20 mil, like one of the most valuable drops back then
I would love to go back to these days with the knowledge I have now about the game. Think about how easy money making would be
I remember having “girlfriends” in the game, and I would get excited when one would pop online.
Oh the good old days, my account like many others will soon be 20 years old!
