In case no one has mentioned it already, the original script only mentioned characters by their last name, and Ripley didn't become a female until Signourney Weaver was cast in the role. Weaver's strong presence and flawless acting paved the way for future female action heroes.

Me too. I was a kid, but he terrified me. Especially when he closed the doors. I remember sneaking down to watch my dad’s copied vhs in the middle of the night. I had many happy nightmares afterwards - totally worth it.
I absolutely loved your reaction. It brought back how I felt when I saw it in theaters in 1979. I was amazed that you were able to figure out what was coming next. Thanks for sharing. At the end are you talking about Alien Covenant. This is a distance sequel to Alien.
I was 14 also. when i saw it 2nd out in theaters and the line went around the building. I remember it was a hot day. Most people were expecting a Star Wars type film...i guess they were little surprised.
My own fan theory on the alien's fast growth: Some insects can grow many times their original size by ingesting a liquid (blood) so I figured that it evolved to be inflatable (microscopically at the cellular level so it can form any complex shape) and simply ingested water to grow as it's apparently near the leaking cooling system where Brett was taking a "shower". Energy needed could have been built in the organism like a battery, but it quickly ran out while in the shuttle which explains why it just lay there. Or it got barely enough energy from the ship's food supply and again it simply went dormant to re-energize or molt like a snake.
That was a fantastic reaction to "Alien". Love this channel. That SHOULD be a cat meme! Jonesy reacting to the alien! 🤣Hey, I've got a great 70s sci-fi movie, it came out the year before "Alien", it was Steven Spielberg's next movie after "Jaws": "Close Encounters Of The Third Kind"! Would LOVE to see your reactions (and your thoughts!) about that one! Thanks again for the super fun "Alien" reaction!

Don't forget when this movie was made, the sets, the practical effects and all the models like the ship(s) are great! They all did a great job, also in the 2nd part Aliens. The actor who played Ash did also a great job, when i was looking that movie for the first time i also was wondering the whole time what's wrong with Ash. I hope you look/react the 2nd part ALIENS! The 2nd part is my favorite Alien movie.
Did you know that the actor (Ian Holm) also starred as Bilbo Baggins in “Lord If The Rings”? He was also in “The Fifth Element”, “Brazil”, and “Chariots Of Fire”, among many other films. Unfortunately, he died 3 years ago.
37:50 - the reason she's trying to turn off the self destruct is because the Alien is in the way to the shuttle - it's blocking her path. It was crouching down to get through the door when it saw her. She's now trapped on a ship that's about to blow up so she turns back to cancel the destruct, but misses it by 3 seconds. At this stage she has 5 minutes and MUST get past the alien.
The sequel (Aliens) is a continuation of the first movie. It picks up right where the first one stops. Sigourney Weaver (Ripley) is in the second movie too.
Folks often forget that the hauling vessel is towing a fully automated ore refinery. When Brett went looking for Jones in the factory condensation on the equipment was dripping down. It's safe because it's distilled.
38:00 - you’re exactly right, the alien was blocking her path to the escape shuttle, so her only option was to try and disable the self-destruct so that she would have more time to reach the escape shuttle.
The underwear in this film is so tiny that it's funny, but it represents the vulnerability of humans in space. She was supposed to be nude, she wanted to be nude, but the studio was worried it would affect affect it's R rating.
Meh, directors cut of 2 is not great, cuz it deflates the tension by showing the family scene, IMO. The mystery is preserved by not showing Newt before they arrive. The theatrical of 2 is much better, I think. But Alien 3 extended cut is great cuz it takes a mediocre movie and makes it actually great. IMO .
@@rexmundi2986 THANK YOU. As someone who was there in '86, the movie that became an instant classic is the theatrical version. Two young modern viewers are boarding the "Nostromo." What will they make of this "old, long, slow-moving, character-centered, no-DFX" movie? The Company is making the equivalent of a freighter crew to "do science" on an unexplored planet! 6:59 The Space Jockey, a mystery for decades. 9:44 Second Officer Kane = Zapp Brannigan. 10:46 How's THAT for a jump scare? 11:17 This conversation has become iconic due to recent events. 12:30 The Face Hugger, grossing out audiences for decades. 13:04 You're watching Special Edition version with footage not seen in 1979. 14:38 Acid Blood is why they can't just cut/blow it off Kane's face. 18:41 A props dept. work of ART, made of sea animals. 20:38 Kane's last meal. 21:26 The Xenomorph, scaring audiences for over 40 years. 22:45 Along came Jones. 24:00 Say hello to Bolaji Badejo. 27:34 You're in command now, Ripley! 29:56 In 1979, this was my "WTF? Ash ISN'T Human!?" moment. 31:21 most didn't see this coming. 36:18 Another scene not seen in 1979. 37:10 Escape route cut off, stop Destruct to gain time for Plan B. 40:10 Tonight's entree on the Shuttle "Narcissus" is Steamed Xenomorph in Shell. 40:43 Correction, Char-Broiled Xenomorph. This and the next movie made newcomer Sigourney Weaver a major movie star. Along with Linda Hamilton of "The Terminator" (1984), they became Action movie badasses. "Jennifer Lawrence"? Who is that?
There was no egg left on the shuttle and she and Jonesy make it back to Earth. That is how Aliens begins. Just something to let you know that Aliens pretty much picks up where Alien left off. I am sure you will like ALIENS.
The "robot" at the beginning was just a space helmet. The ship stopped because of the signal and woke them all up to investigate, the company has no knowledge of the signal or alien but clearly programed the computer (Mother) and Ash that if they ever come across any alien life/artifacts that the company could exploit that would be more important than the ore that was mined or the lives of the crew. Ash almost certainly knew that the face-hugger had implanted something in Kane which is why he turned the monitor off when Ripley came in the room. You should for sure watch Aliens, I recommend extended cut but theatrical is fine too. A lot of ppl will tell you to stop there but Alien³ extended edition is much better than the original and is pretty interesting and had some great actors in it, and Alien Resurrection (Alien 4) is an underrated classic written by Joss Whedon (Buffy/Firefly/The Avengers).
@technofilejr3401 That's as maybe, but they didn't know that xenomorphs were specifically on LV-426. If they did, they would have sent a more suitable ship and crew and the events of Aliens wouldn't make any sense.
Finally! Someone who doesn't want to gatekeep the third and fourth films! They are far better movies than most people would have you believe, but yeah, it *has* to be the Assembly Cut of Alien 3, the theatrical doesn't properly make sense.
@@cyberleadr - Yes, they DID know that "something" was on LV-426. They'd already deciphered the warning signal. That's why the Nostromo's regular science officer was replaced with Ash, just days before they departed from Earth. He was assigned to collect the whatever-it-was and bring it back.
@@cyberleadr - As for "they would have sent a more suitable ship and crew and the events of Aliens wouldn't make any sense", why are you assuming the whole company was involved? Maybe it was simply one opportunistic company exec, hoping to make a fortune.. and so trying to operate below the company radar.. just like Burke did in Aliens. Diverting a freighter would be far less likely to be noticed by his bosses, than sending a properly equipped expedition. That would also explain why the company as a whole was unaware of any potential dangers on LV-426, in the sequel.
I think the reason it didn’t attack her right away on the shuttle is because it was getting old and tired. Reg xenomorphs probably grow and die fast, and this one created 2 eggs on top of that.
Great reaction ladies! I would love for you both to react to the sequel: Aliens. It’s more of an action movie, but a damn good one. If you are going to watch it, please try to watch the directors cut as it adds only a small amount of time to the movie but gives some very important backstory. The rest of the series just bad unfortunately.
21:36 "I'm tired of this Ash guy. He's makin' me mad." Ah. Good. You've begun to pick up on his _character._ He fills much the same role for _this_ movie that Mayor Vaughn filled in _Jaws._ As I recall, when _I_ first saw this movie, I didn't manage to do it quite so _soon._
I always wonder what ores they were carrying that caused the cascade reaction after she blew the ship's nuclear pile. My best guess is some easily fissile material, and some deuterium or tritium ice that went into fusion. (But you still need to liberally posit some polarized shielding embedded in the windscreen, or something, to explain some of the end explosion effects.)
Y'all need to watch the Sequel. Its one of best Sequels of all time. Since you both have already seen Prometheus which is a prequel to Alien, you are actually watching these films in chronological order

The point is they don't have any heavy fire weapons on the ship, just the flame-thowers, because they are just a cargo ship, not a military one. That's why it's difficult to get rid of the Alien. It's like fighting a 6 foot long giant cockroach with your bare hands.
Not really, they decided to not penetrate in any way the alien because of the acid that could pierce the ship hull

45 years ago. No terrible CGI. Yes, the stomach puppet is bad, but the rest is FANTASTIC.
Can't wait to see Aliens! Its my favorite movie.
There was no egg left on the shuttle and she and Jonesy make it back to Earth. That is how Aliens begins. Just something to let you know that Aliens pretty much picks up where Alien left off. I am sure you will like ALIENS.
ALIEN: COVENANT!!! It was Alien: Covenant, the second prequel to this one. Also, love your reactions, especially to great movies like this.
“I don’t know what’s wrong with Ash. He’s disconnected…” Not as disconnected as he ought to be. 😂😂😂😂
Only Kane ,Ripley, Dallas, and to extent, Lambert had training. It's a commercial vehicle, a tow truck in space.
Actually the company has known about the aliens for decades
That would also explain why the company as a whole was unaware of any potential dangers on LV-426, in the sequel.
yeah that was future episode of aline promehtius or covenenant, best to c em by ver relaese date- in order.
Dropping SpongeBob and Dora comments were the icing on the cake for me.
The most badass female image in film history: Ripley with a flame thrower in one hand & a cat carrier in the other! 😂❤
I think the reason it didn’t attack her right away on the shuttle is because it was getting old and tired. Reg xenomorphs probably grow and die fast, and this one created 2 eggs on top of that.
Saw and Alien are my two favorite scary movie franchises 😎
Great reaction ladies!
I would love for you both to react to the sequel: Aliens. It’s more of an action movie, but a damn good one.
If you are going to watch it, please try to watch the directors cut as it adds only a small amount of time to the movie but gives some very important backstory.
The rest of the series just bad unfortunately.
As a newbie to your channel, don’t forget Rocky and then Rocky II!
21:36 "I'm tired of this Ash guy. He's makin' me mad."
Ah.
Always a pleasure,:).
Sigourney Weaver's "Ripley" is one of the best, most bad-ass heroes of the horror/sci-fi genre.
We can explain the theory as to why it was so inactive on the shuttle once you've seen the second one. The theory contains a bit of a spoiler.
34:45 Jones is trying to get away from those noisy humans
First one awake, first one dead!!
Also, does anyone hear how Ash's voice sounds different from everyone else's, from the beginning?
Y'all need to watch the Sequel. Its one of best Sequels of all time. Since you both have already seen Prometheus which is a prequel to Alien, you are actually watching these films in chronological order
