  • After getting some seat time on the xr650l Supermoto, I have to say this thing is a tank. It has an insane amount of torque in the thumper catagory to this day, considering it has not seen an update in nearly 30 years. The Supermoto conversion helps for more responsive steering and completely changes the characteristics of the bike. Was a blast to rip and get comfortable riding! Thanks for watching!

    My buddy had one of these, it might be old with old tech but I still really liked it. It has character to it and I think anyone that actually likes motorcycles could appreciate what this bike is. Tons of torque but also heavy, really made for a fun bike on the street especially with the supermoto setup!

    Im at a very very constant battle with myself to sell my 2001 xr250r for a bike i can make a supermoto as i cant find anything on these. Yet its also my fist bike. I really am curious if i can somehow turn it into a sm or if theres some secret set of wheels out there that are made for it

    How did you make your speedometer works with the supermoto wheels?

    • @Floatsorrolls1
      @Floatsorrolls1  4 місяці тому +1

      We got our supermoto wheels from procycle and when you buy through them they give you option to lace the 17” rims to oem hubs. This allows you to use the stock speedo. Note it will read roughly about 10-12% off but still operate as normal! Hope this helps and thanks for watching!

      They sell lowered seats and lowering links . The supermoto conversion lowered the bike some too.

    • @johnnygeorgopoulos4072
      @johnnygeorgopoulos4072 9 місяців тому

      They sell lowering links, different springs, custom seat...you can easily drop anywhere from an inch to 1.5" with barely to no work, to 4" I've seen with all of the above including forks.

      im the other way from you... I want a Suzuki DR650 but they're too low to the ground, better for shorter riders, so I settled on getting an XR650L. You should check out the DR. might suit you better

      We are running stock sprocket size front and rear😎 is geared lower because of the small wheel size but works well!

      @@Floatsorrolls1 thanks appreciate it. I’ve always leaned towards the Xr more because I actually like the higher seat height. I hear people say u need to get an oil cooler. Do you have an oil cooler?

      @Floatsorrolls1  3 місяці тому +1

      @@oogbigworm we do not have an oil cooler and haven’t had a issue. I dont think an oil cooler is a must atleast from our experience. (Spirted driving and a wheelies)We havent had a need for one. Seat height is nice especially if you supermoto convert it. Still comfortable height for my dad at 6’4”.

      @@Floatsorrolls1 i was just about to ask cause im 6’2 almost 6’3 without boots on. But i loved the drz400sm as far as power wise is the xr better for highway usage as a bigger guy?

    • @Floatsorrolls1
      @Floatsorrolls1  3 місяці тому

      @@griffenatekevinbacon we don’t do any highway riding mostly back country roads. Cant say forsure how itd be long distance on a highway but it certainly would get buzzy going over 75-80mph atleast with how we have dads xr650l geared.

    The 650 should have more power than the 450

    • @Floatsorrolls1
      @Floatsorrolls1  Рік тому +4

      About same from factory but with fuel correction and exhaust the 450 make a bigger leap and is significantly less weight. The 650 is a way better machine long term and a much better supermoto for around town riding.

  • @gymshoe8862
    @gymshoe8862 9 місяців тому +1

    You made one glaring mistake that almost everyone makes--you made it almost as loud as if it had no muffler at all in search of extra power but it is a fool's errand--you increase noise but gain a tiny bit of power, maybe none at all. The droning exhaust is irritating to the rider and all others nearby.

    • @Floatsorrolls1
      @Floatsorrolls1  9 місяців тому +11

      To each their own my friend. We are happy with how it sounds. Adding a exhaust does increase power on this bike if you rejet. Loud pipes saves lives 😂🤘🏼

      Kaplan cycles recently had a video on a built xr dyno runs with stock down pipe vs the big gun one and the engine lost 50% torque in the mid range with the aftermarket down pipe. Other than that sweet bike and nice riding on the twisties.
