Thanks for your update 👌 I hope you can post a full outdoor review of it with the full usage of geocaching soon 😎
We will get a full outdoor 'walk and talk' on the unit once we have fully got to grips with it.
This looks great. I'm an Etrex10 user and also have a Garmin Instinct watch. I usually setup a course and load it into my watch and Etrex 10 for my daughter to use when out for a walk.
This new SE has all the functionality that I've been missing on tge original mode.
Really looking forward to you doing a walk and talk with this device.
Cheers again for keeping us updated
Excellent post, thank you for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it
It really does look good! Garmin seems to be upping their game, probably in response to the new cell phones with advanced GPS.
Thanks for doing the unboxing as I wanted it get one for my son to get him in to gps before I by him a expensive one as he’s into Geocash in big thanks again. Looking forward to your Fil testing. Appreciate your channel
Glad it helped and thanks for your kind words.
I’m new to GPS handheld units and was set to purchase the Etrex 22x but know seen this model just released! I just want it for basic hiking and appreciate that this won’t download maps like the 22 but I wanted to download an area (say an open area National park) and route a hike to display on the gps. In your opinion would the SE be as usable for the purpose (I know you can’t download colour maps) or would you advise the 22 still? Thanks.
@@Bass-guitarist Personally I would still go for the 22x, well actually I would go for the 32x if you can afford it - ua-cam.com/video/cFZcY2bND4M/v-deo.html
I have the same question as someone else too regarding installation of a small map section.
I have the etrex 10 and I was able to install a small map too simply by accessing the internal memory via pc and getting rid of the original map and installing a small map I created and renaming it the same as the original map.
I want to buy one of these too but I want to make sure I can access the internal memory and replace original map, ie to have read/write access.
Cheers
PS, one great feature it has is the Auto Pause, you will be able to get accurate distance travelled because the timer stops while you are stationary.
Hi apologies this is not something we have tried ourselves but looking on a windows pc the eTRex SE drive is accessible and you can see a file named GMAPBMAP.IMG, please note if using a MAC computer the etrex SE uses MTP USB connection and will not be see as a mountable drive on a Mac unless you use a 3rd party application such as Android file transfer, kind regards GPS Training
Hi we have just managed to test changing the bmap.img on our unit to some OSM mapping and unfortunately it does not load the OSM map as a basemap, if this changes in updates in the future we will post on here, kind regards
Thank you for the quick Overview. Some things I would like to know are, when navigating a route, will it indicate elapsed time, distance travaled and ETA? Does it support bluetooth accessories like cadence, and heart rate monitors; unit-to-unit route/location sharing; LIVETRACK.
Thanks for your questions -
1. When navigating a route, will it indicate elapsed time, distance traveled and ETA?
YES
2. Does it support bluetooth accessories like cadence, and heart rate monitors
NO
3. Unit-to-unit route/location sharing; LIVETRACK
YES
I hope this helps.
Looks like a great well overdue new etrex. Any cases and screen protectors available yet?
Sadly not at this moment in time, but they can not be far away.
Is it possible to upload a small map in to the eTrex SE just like the older eTrex 10?
Hi Apologies this is not something that we have ever done ourselves, using a Windows PC you can as per the etrex10 access the internal drive and there is the Basemap image showing. Kind regards GPST

Small screen compared to size of unit
Hi, When using rechargeable batteries is it possible to recharge them in the device via the usb-c port?
Hi Alain, apologies you cannot charge batteries in the unit, kind regards GPS Training
@@ukgpstraining No worries, thank you.
I’m a complete novice. Been looking at this Unit. The main feature I’m going to need is the unit need to track where I’ve started and how to backtrack to get back to my starting point. .. The reviews from Bushnell mini gps said backtrack feature rubbish. Would this unit be good for a novice hiker that is prone to getting lost. Thanks
The backtrack feature on the eTrex SE dies exactly as it says on the tin, it works just like any other Garmin GPS unit.
You can see be using this feature on a Garmin GPSMAP 66sr - ua-cam.com/video/hwcwcgtFkXY/v-deo.html
@@ukgpstraining thank you so much . I reckon this unit is going to be perfect for me
Is garmin going to come out with a newer model of this unit soon with more features?
This has been released in the last month - ua-cam.com/video/haOO4fHNmP0/v-deo.htmlsi=tsiJ9k1QfGi8e4vf (significantly more expensive - solar version of the SE)
But these are x 2 very new units, so not much will change for the next few years
I can’t believe it doesn’t have a place for a sd card for more memory or preloaded maps like huntview plus you can use.
What’s the refresh rate?
Hi Amelia apologies this is not a figure we have, but we can advise that using the device ourselves over the last few weeks , moving around the screens etc is a lot smoother and quicker than the older etrex models that we have used, Kind regards GPST
Is it made in Taiwan or China? thank you.
Taiwan, I hope this helps.
