Sometimes, you forget the deep, philosophical moments hidden in Destiny 2. Given the themes and nature of its universe, this layer of philosophy isn’t too surprising though. The Final Shape, after all, is viewed by some to be the end of everything, so life doesn’t exist and continue just to suffer upon being destroyed by a meteor, or die upon the sun exploding. Why suffer when everything can just end? To exist is to suffer, in the effort to continue existing. That’s the philosophy of the Witness and it’s Final Shape. But, pain and hardship, that’s what makes life what it is. Without pain or strife to know where alive, and can challenge the odds aginst us, how is that living? The same goes for Madara in Naruto. He’d wished for everyone to never know pain, achieving this by keeping humanity in a state of constant, mental catharsis, a coma or dream they couldn’t wake up from, trapped in a stasis of bliss and joy, without despair or pain. But, a paradise like that cannot exist, because human nature, the mind, cannot accept such paradise if built on a lie. Pain, strife, hardship, as much as they hurt, they are needed in our lives. It’s a necessary, cruel truth. But, sometimes that’s better than a sweet lie.
Didn't expect such a large comment. But yeah I also really live how the Hive in Destiny represent the Armstrong from MGR where the idea is that the strong rule over the weak. So that you get stronger by defeating others and thus prove your right of existence. I really like the lore surrounding this Hive philosophy. Destiny has such interesting and expansive lore that you can just loose yourself in it which I love.
Edit: another thing that has done that well is For Honor. Apolleon was such a great villain in such a badly written story. She saw the world as a place where the strong terrorize the weak because they cannot best themselves against the strong. So she made war, became the war in order to create a world where her worldview would also thrive. Even after her death she managed to get the factions to fight, so that the strong can fight each other and don't have to let it out on the weak, as they would supply them. Such an interesting concept
Didn't expect a discussion over the deeper themes of destiny 2, but it's a welcome surprise. The writing of destiny is often overly criticized and underappreciated, but there is so much amazing literature within the game and it's universe.

Is you know what it's called when you'r not in constant pain or strife to know where alive, and aren't always againt the odds? That's called living a good life. Some would say priviledged. Otherwise people like hobos with no homes, no income , and no reliable food source are living better then you because they face all of the those things every day right? Surely they appreciate life more right? Here's a hint: they would trade their suffering and struggle for yours in a heartbeat. But what's the limit you ask? The real question is who decides the limit of what one should suffer and struggle through? Sounds like a job for a cruel man or a god with all the time in the world.
As for your Madara example, he wanted to use an illusion of of course it would eventually fail that's just simple long term thinkihng. But when a legitimate, totally not fake, literal Deus Ex Machina solution appears right before you then it is oibjectively the wrong answer to not take it
The whole "struggle gives life meaning" is just the evolutionary cope that your brain developed when it realized how powerless you were to stop the environment and predators from easily killing you. In a more poetic sense, It's Adam and Eve trying to justify to themsleves why getting kicked out Eden was a good thing despite 2 seconds of thinking making you realize it isn't

Murder Drones is a Comedy dressed up as Horror. Amazing Circus is Horror dressed up as a Comedy.
Though the line separating those two concepts is thin just like the difference of an anti-hero and an anti-villain.
Or the difference between a horror dressed up as a comedy and a comedy with horror elements (even at its core).
Though I guess we can agree that both are horror-comedies with varying degrees of horror and comedy.
I don't think murder drones constitutes as horror, but more of a thriller I think. Like predator vs aliens.

@@ashendude3394 it has the dressings of a horror show, the dark setting, grim imagery, and various degrees of slasher moments. But it never crosses into being scary and is just funny. Digital Circus has the dressing of something more funny and innocent but the deeper you go the more horrific the setting gets.
So different and yet so alike. 😄
I like that Jax and N are voiced by the same voice actor, the shire contrast between that nasty rabbit and the wholesome killer robot is so funny to me.

Just one clarification that's probably already been mentioned, but Murder Drones was created by Liam Vickers, while TADC was created by Gooseworx, while they were both produced by Glitch, the writing is by different people

This is very much inspired by the book “I have no mouth and I must scream” which follows a group of the last humans on earth being stuck inside an evil ai that tortures them for eternity. Digital circus seems to be a less bleak version of that story, and hopefully, with a less bleak ending

Yeahhhh, I would rather go into the Houses of Leaves for eternity, than ever encounter AM(That's his name right). Such a spooky villian that was done right for once.
At least the video game of IHNMAIMS let you get a hopeful ending, so there's a chance this one will too.
I thought the ending had some good in it, though for Ted and AM, not so much.
Fun Fact: The writer later worked on a sequel game to the story. It was done in the early times of computer games, so it's not the most engaging, but it does follow the characters from the book and further fleshes them out.
It's nice to see that Caine isn't the actual villain or anything. He really does care about the circus members.
But he/it doesn't seem to know what a 'human' is, at least the true experience of what it means to be human. He seems to only understand the concept of a mind and his role as a showman/caretaker from what it seems, which is why everything happened, and I'm gonna guess are going to happen.

also a good point. After all, the perspective between a biological creature and a technological creature can be completely different, at least in common cases, like this. I have a feeling that he is going possibly to play an unintentional betrayer role, since there's been some theories over the biblical imagery in the upcoming show, like there being 13 major characters, with 6 already being abstracted (including Kaufmo ), being a fill in for the 12 disciples and Jesus Christ (with Pomni sitting in Jesu's position in Michealango's painting.)@@Sigurdur_the_bumbling_idiot
Actually, the writing was done by Gooseworx since it's her show. Liam Vickers wrote the scripts for Murder Drones because it was his.
And yes, Jax and N share the same VA. As well as Rocky from Lackadaisy.

I think the reason Jax is being a dick to everyone is twofold
One: it keeps him stimulated and staves of insanity.
Two: It also keeps everyone else stimulated. So he might be doing it for a good reason - not believing that Cains "stimulation" is very good
Jax might be an Admin account given he has 'keys to everywhere'
make that three fold.... Being a Dick might also be a method of keeping some emotional distance because he's seen enough people get abstracted to not want to deal with the pain of loosing someone close to them....
Jax might be a former developer of the circus (but that's just my headcanon)
He is probably the most actively caring of anyone, telling pomni how it is immediately and just ripping the band aid off, gets an adventure going for pomni, checks on caufmo knowing hes not doing well, pushes kinger and gangle down the hole to hide as soon as he heard caufmo was near. Though outside of the existential threats he doesn't care because the world is playing with kids gloves nothing that is placed here can do any actual harm to them. Also prodding ragatha and gangle is him trying to force them out of their false and forced positivity with gangles mask being a more obvious look as its a literal mask he keeps breaking. Except the escalator push, that was just mean lol.
He's like Sanse, but worse. It is stimulation...but that kind of soft-bullying may only make it worse. It didn't help Kaufmo or the others that suffered Abstraction.

It really adds to the *pointlessness* of it, too. 'Cause like, Caine's not the villain who's keeping you here; he has no control over that. He's not torturing you for his own amusement; he's just incapable of properly helping you due to the limits of his programming. In its own way it's even worse than if he was actively malicious, because you can't even blame or defy him to feel at least that little bit of satisfaction in standing up to the monster that's tormenting you.
@@UrLeingodnot to mention that he didn’t realize making an exit that wasn’t actually an exit like that could have a really horrible effect and really hammer in the pointlessness further. That probably is what broke Kaufmo, he thought he FINALLY found a way out only for his newfound hopes to be dashed. I think maybe it could end up having the opposite effect on Pomni in the long run, since it cements in her brain that escape isn’t so easy *first*
Also it’s clear he’s at least somewhat considerate in that he immediately when Zooble said they didn’t want an adventure, he gave them an opt out (even if they got dragged into it anyway)
@@thehoodedteddy1335 Going by the art he made, Kaufmo never seemed to have found it before abstracting; he drove himself mad trying to find it, never realizing it was pointless. Caine's bumbling attempts to hide his "unfinished work" drove Kaufmo over the edge, completely without malice, and in its own way that's even worse than if he'd done it deliberately and gloated about it.
Honestly I think Pomni can give kobeni a run for her money on who can be the most timid and scared.😺

Jax may be a jerk, but he's probably doing better than Caine at keeping the others from losing sight of themselves. Like you described, without any needs to be met or stress from basic survival, they lost one of the main things that gives life a direction - the struggle/adversity. Dude's pranks and mean-ness are just that needed bit of adversity on a personal level to keep them sane... -ish

Cain and Bubble are AI's for the game, and he is a ringmaster so he is there to put on a show for the player, and has found himself with humans stuck INSIDE his game. No idea how to actually get them out he does his best to take care of them but, he is just a AI for entertainment so he does what he can but not really understanding what a person actually needs. And with no actual 'player' those stuck inside are the 'player characters' for his game and his antics as he does his best for them. TLDR Cain is good but has no idea how to properly care for his humans. He does his best though.
To clarify, this show is the one that makes the most sense out of all of gooseworx's animations

I don't think they have any wacky abilities other than "silly cartoon physics and logic", Zooble is just a potatoman amalgam of wacky shapes, Jax hasn't demonstrated any super speed except as a cartoon-logic gag (and then is later shown running at a normal pace _and_ out of breath), Gangle is coping with the situation by putting on a (literal) mask and, without it, is just constantly breaking down into tears (everyone else is coping in their own ways too, Ragatha is being poisonously optimistic, Jax is antagonizing other people for fun, Kinger is dissociating to avoid really dealing with anything...)
And Caine is (probably) an AI in control of (some of) the virtual world, (probably) not a human trapped in there

1. her name.
"pomni" in russian means "remember", which in itself is proof enough, but the fact that when she went through the exit doors and eventually stumbled across the computer, she seemed to remember something(?) or at least made some sort of connection there
2. in the exit rooms scene & lights.
when pomni is running through the seemingly endless exit rooms, the lighting remains relatively stable. but when she sees the computer and starts to go a bit insane, the lights start going crazy, and only then can she enter the void. it might just be for cinematic effect, but idk.
3. exits.
shes literally like the only one who can see the exits (besides kaufmo--possibly.) she has to be connected to the digital circus on a deeper level than the rest.
I think the exits just didn't show up in anyone else's face, Kaufmo definitely saw it and Caine's gaslighting about it (he never finished the fun Exit-Themed Adventure for them, after all) and the actual intense desire to leave, drove Kaufmo utterly insane, and he abstracted.
I also think the exit rooms scene was just artistic representation of her having a mental breakdown
I think Kaufmo's abstraction and Pomni's appearance are linked in some way, though

My Fan Theory: The characters (Except for Caine) are actually AI constructs made by scanning the minds of whoever put on the headset. The reason they can't remember their name is that nobody is always thinking about their own name all the time. Their only "REAL" memory is of putting on the headset. Since they need memories to stabililze their personalities, they need the "Adventures" to build up their own memories. If they go unstable, they turn into the shoggoth looking things.
Reminds me of SOMA with the mind scan horror.

Nah I think I'd be happy in the Digital Circus personally. I mean being far away from the stress of real life and being able to have endless fun is great.

It’s either get a figurative sugar overload constantly or do nothing at all for the rest of eternity. Sure, it could start off nice. But every day? Forever? That’s literally insanity lmao. It would get to the point where you just end up asking what’s the point, and then go insane. Too much of *anything* is never healthy, even if it’s fun in the beginning.
Plus just the fact you were stripped of your last life + identity with no recollection would be earth shattering, no matter how it was. Because at that point you wouldn’t even know what it was like and would just have that nagging feeling that you’re *forgetting*. It’s hell. Colorful hell, but hell nonetheless

I notice Jax directs attention to himself to help the others. Pomni destroyed the mask, but jax destroyed it again to put the blame on himself. He thrown the bowling ball at the king to get them to a safe place. He didn’t tell the others about cosmo unti the end. There are others but this is long enough already.
I like the idea that the charaters we see are basically 'snapshots' of people souls. They put on the headset and 'save' a small part of themselves in the game. The world outside is dieing or already dead so this is the only way people feel like they can 'live on' either on purpose or by accident. Caine is a computer mascot who was made to run this fun little game for people to play, normally he would get a chance to rest when the players would log out for the day but now because people can't leave he's forced to be on all the time and its slowly breaking him down mentally as well.

Considering what completely breaks a character and what caine has no control on is the mind and their consciousness, its possible it's only their consciousness that is being uploaded onto the digital world forever.
Further more , if they all got in via headset, unless it's a super hightech thing that keeps their real body alive, the fact that even if they eat virtual food or sleep, their bodies don't get nutrients, meaning they will eventually rot and die. So with no real world bodies they really have nothing to turn to besides being in the digital circus.
And if you abstract, unless it's reversible, which is suggested by ragatha trying to talk it out with kofumo instead of running right away and saying "maybe there's still time" (she's the second to come after kinger so she saw many abstracts already), then they might aswell be pronounced dead for good. And the abstracts are fragments of what's left of them
You may like a game called Crosscode. The beginning is a little slow in terms of plot but it certainly did not disappoint me.

As far as I can tell, Caine has no ill intentions, he just wants to make the most of his situation just as much as everyone else. Sure, he's more powerful but he seems just as trapped as everyone else. He talks about trying to make an exit but "was having trouble figuring out what to put on the other side." The way I interpret that line is that he'd set everyone free if he could but his power only extends as far as the limits of the digital circus so the best he can do is make a fake exit to give everyone a little hope, and even then he couldn't come up with something that would satisfy them.
His wackiness is just his coping mechanism in the same way that Jax's jackassishness is his coping mechanism. Jax said he's been there for years, Kinger even longer, and the abstracted people longer still, so how long has Caine been trapped here? I also don't think he's responsible for bringing people to the circus since he's surprised as Pomni's appearance.
Anyway that's just what I think, and my guess is as good as anyone's.
