  • It's mid May and the sunshine isn't very generous yet. The tomatoes have grown quite tall so it's time to get them into the tomato house.

Once our tomatoes are in, you know the season truly begins!

Great assortment of tomatoes! I string up my tomatoes just like that except I place a skinny piece of bambo into the ground beside the the tomato stem. I tie the string to the first bump on the bamboo. Helps to keep the string somewhat tight.

Good Morning Tamara, perfect timing for a video on a cold and very wet day in Germany, not that that stops our Tamara from getting things done! It brought a smile to my face and warmth to my heart. As always enjoyed and appreciate. Do your kitties mess with your seedlings? Just had a friend who went through some terrible days when one of hers ate some kohlrabi leaves Thank God all well now.

    Always beautiful in your garden.✨🌼
I grew 7 varieties this year. I promised myself there was only going to be 3, but I just love growing tomatoes... it's like an addiction.

Very interesting about the nettles. At first I thought you were going to brew a nettle tea in a tub for fertilizer, similar to comfry. You got me.

Hi Tamara, good decision about planting more tomatoes. They really don’t mind being a bit closer together. 😊

Thank you, Tamara, for another nice video. I think you have a very nice selection of tomatoes. I can't wait to see them. There is nothing like a fresh tomato from the garden, and we have to wait all year for them. Maybe they taste even sweeter for the waiting?

Am guessing the stinging nettles provide the calcium to guard against blossom end rot? My Granny used to add nettles to soups and stews but I found them bitter, I use them to brush against arthritic knees. I love your tomato house, a true work of art. 👌🍅

Dear Maude, actually the reason for adding nettle in the plant hole is because apparently it gives them warm/hot "feet"... As the tomatoes like it warm the rotting nettles below provide some heat to start off.

@@theswissplot468 what a good idea, the nettles have many benefits, another new thing I have learnt, thanks Tamara

I tend to crowd my tomatoes too, more so than you, because I can’t control myself . 😃. Your international travelers looked very nice! I got a great tip from you in this video, and I really don’t know why it hadn’t occurred to me. My tomatoes seedlings do well and seem sturdy, but when i go to move them outside, the stems will topple over and I had one break, and it was the only one I had of that variety. But, I saw you had mini stakes supporting yours and I am shaking my head that I have never done this while they are seedlings! Next year, I will do this when I pot them up! No more broken stems trying to move them! One of the varieties I am growing is ananas noire, so not the same as yours but maybe related. The forest there is beautiful. I noticed you were not really wearing protective shoes or pants. Do you not worry about venomous snakes? Or are there not any in your part of Switzerland?
