This is a particularly ruthless "high command". They dont bother about the pain of the public nor consequences when writing policies. Diplomatic journos, yourself included, remarked in wonderment how "tefflon coated" modi was..now talk about the corrotion!
I remember many journalists making the tefflon coated remark couple of months before the election. LOL. How times change.
Taking defectors helps where BJP is weak eg. In Telangana 6 out the 8 BJP MPs who won are from BRS/INC since 2014 ,
Odisha is also has many defectors in BJP since 2014, same in Assam BJP is in power with the help of AGP INC defectors one thing is common in these 3 BJP was weak , but taking defectors not going help where BJP is strong and has many aspirants they will make sure that the defectors defeat. trusting your own original party candidates help in states like Haryana, UP ,Rajasthan, Gujarat, MP, Uttarakhand, Karnataka, chattishgarh,HP where bjp traditionally strong and stable organisation.

These two will make sure that entire ground workers of BRS joining BJP as the 26 MLAs are joining congress.in 90+ seats BRS Ground workers main enemy is congress not the BJP.
It gives temporary boost to them but after some time they to face difficulties look at bengal where Bjp have so many issues to counter but the sad reality is that inorder get some small gains They take leaders from cpm and tmc which gives them temporary electoral benefit but in long term it will hurt party very badly because these turn coats will switch the party immediately after they sense change in air

In North India voters fear BJP+ RSS, they know that Modi factor is manufactured under such meetings by Late Arun Jaitley where you also participants. so who gained in Himachal? BJP got the Rajya Sabha seat even when they were behind 15 votes. BJP won all 4 Loksabha seats. In the next assembly election BJP will come to power. It's the congress who needs to do introspection not the BJP. even after the so called good result congress could not convince its MLAs in Maharashtra to vote for alliance candidate.
