    For my all around XC/Trail riding I use the Nobby nic/Wicked Will combo. Both in supertrail casing. Recently switched to Assegai exo+ max terra / DHR2 DD max grip for more endura style riding. Grip for days but so much rolling resistance. Switched the DHR for the Wicked Will and so far I love the combo. Even so much that I'm thinking to leave that combo on for my trip to Saalbach.

    I ran Assegai/DHR2 or Assegai/Dissector for ages, but switched to the Krpytotal in DH casing and absolutely love em. Bike is a RM Altitude and the DH casings don't feel overkill. The front grips about the same as a MaxGrip Assegai (Super Soft compound) but is more predictable and has better feedback, also rolls slightly faster. The Krpytotal rear is the best rear tire I've ever run, rolls a little faster than a DHR2, has more grip, and is WAY more predictable. Kryptotal in Enduro super soft will be the the holy grail front tire for trail and lighter enduro bikes.

    I was talked into trying the Pirelli XC RC by "THE INTERWEBS!" and liked them, but at about the same weight and rolling resistance, but with better grip is the Cross King rear and Mountain King front (here in Utah) both in the 29x2.3 Black Chili Protection on my 115 rear travel, 140 front travel Trance. I rode a 2-mile buff climb, and the times came out almost exactly the same between the two combos. If you don't have to slow down and then accelerate, I actually have a PR time to climb on an Assegai front and Dissector rear on a climb of about 1500 feet, which really surprised me!

    Excellent and fun as usual. As a XC rider, I'm going to agree with Liam about the Maxxis Aspen (see previous MTB Podcast). Having ridden MTB for 30 years now, it's the most surprising tire I've ever ridden. I used to look at it and just not get why it was so popular but I finally bought a pair and was shocked at how well they worked. The newer 2.4 MaxxSpeed is definitely the way to go but unfortunately my frame can't fit a 2.4 out back so I had to go with a 2.25 for the rear. Still very good though. Regardless, they are ultra fast and have a surprising level of grip. So glad I finally tried them.

    WTB Vigilante front and Maxxis DHRII rear. Currently running DHF in front because my bike came with it and tires are expensive, but the Vigilante has way faster side to side movement and shoulder knobs that ease the transition to the outer knobs. I ride on mostly barren rock, and find it really intimidating to go directly to the square outside edge. If I rode in dirt with berms I might not mind the square outer edge.

    What should I be looking at to replace my seemingly heavy dual Rekon setup in 27.5 x 2.6. Looking for a lighter, faster xc type that I think better suits my riding area, thx

    Kryptotal rolls faster than assegai so why not recommend it for a trail tire? Is it down to weight, compound options and casing options?

    Continental Argotal SS DF front + Kryptotal Fr SS DH rear (last 2x long than DHR maxterra), better rolling, more grip and the best damped tires on the market, Maxxis is joke compered to Conti.

      I found I had to drop about 2psi out of the DH casing Kryptotals to get them to not feel too stiff, but once I adjusted the pressure they feel amazing. Though I'd probably run the same pressures in DD Maxxis, I switched from the ubiquitous EXO+ MG Assegai up front to a DH SS Krpytotal.

    • @WorldwideCyclery
      @WorldwideCyclery  Місяць тому

      We haven't had a hard time even with the DH casing Conti tires! It certainly depends on the rim you are mounting it on, it seems.

    • @mrvwbug4423
      @mrvwbug4423 Місяць тому

      I had a hell of a time with the Conti DH casings, expect to have to redo your rim tape and use metal levers. I didn't even attempt to put my Cush Core in with them haha. And this was on the fairly soft RaceFace AR30 rims. I doubt I would've been able to mount them to the DT Swiss FR560s I had on my previous bike.
