    Thanks for taking the time to share a detailed look at Monty. I was impressed with how well maintained and clean he his from the service bay and storage area to the main cabin. I can clearly see he's loved by his owners. Monty is just like a bricks and sticks home and needs constant maintenance and attention which we can see he is certainly getting. One thing that stood out during your behind the scenes look at Monty is the quality of the build by Beaver Motorcoach. His interior may be a bit dated but its in great shape. I was touched by the shout out at the end of the video. Hope you have a productive visit to your friends farm. Have a great day!

      I'm so glad you caught this video this morning. You had a great suggestion to cover this topic - I'm just sorry it was such a long video. Thank you for your kind and encouraging words about Monty. I better head outside and put him back together. All of the items we keep in the bays are spread over my friend's farm pasture - things I cleaned out to make the video. Good fall cleaning time! All the best, hope you have a pleasant weekend.

    Monty sure still looks great. Obviously well cared for. I agree keep the cabinets as is. We ordered our 2023 camper with Sapele wood. Heck the outdoors has natural wood everywhere .
    That painted wallpaper sure looks good. That must have taken patience.
    The colour of the chairs are neutral enough. Recovering the sofa alone will make a huge statement. I can't wait to see what you both decided on. Camping and decorating...my favorite videos. Combined. Woohoo lol.

    I really enjoyed your video walk through of Monty. Monty is a really nice motorhome. Perfect size for two people. Layout is great and so is the wood work - don't paint it! The wallpaper is a perfect upgrade. Monty reminds me of our first motorhome that we got in 2016. Picked up a 1996 Itasca Suncruiser (gas) with no slides or levelers - simple and did not want stuff to break. My wife is claustrophobic so after four years we upgraded to a bit newer gas model with slides and the power goodies. Some days I miss the simpler rig but the ride on the newer one is so much better.
    We are in California and I want a diesel to get out of state over the mountains. My dream is one more upgrade to a diesel pusher. But I'm bumping heads with my wife. She wants newer and bigger and I want older, pre DEF, and same size as ours. I need one a little longer than Monty, with an additional pass through bay, I think I could sell her on one. We have a couple in our FMCA club with a wonderful Country Coach that is perfect. It's 20 years older and She will not consider it. Those older high end rigs are built so well and simple to operate.

      Thank you your kind comment about the video, and Monty. It's nice to see you again. Knowing that you travel for dog shows, I can understand the extra room that you need. I'm with you on the older coaches and I think you can't go wrong with a Country Coach. That make was one of my favourites while looking for Monty. We almost went for one, but it was 36 feet and my wife insisted that we get something no longer than 30 feet. I wanted a diesel, it was a hard combination to find. But then Monty came along and it was solved. I hope your wife might become interested in that Country Coach, and your dogs will love it. Safe, comfortable travel. Good luck!

Yes, the tanks are big, great for boon docking. The grey tank is 60 gallons, the black tank is 40 gallons. I should have mentioned this in the video. I've love to meet AZ Expert, he's a terrific guy with exceptional knowledge. We're looking forward to returning south, but it will likely be Feb before we can get away. And we found a friend in the process. How about you being Monty's godfather?!

    How do you keep the Mice and squirrel's out of all the basement spaces??

    • @ThisOldRV2023
      @ThisOldRV2023  8 днів тому +3

      A very good question. I suspect there are times when mice are inside and we're not aware - but so far, we've been lucky. We haven't had a squirrel thank goodness. When we first bought our motorhome, I did find the remnants of a mouse nest behind the panels that surround our water tank. This is why I like to periodically pull the panels away to inspect this area, as I did in this video.
      We started by filling any obvious openings in the lower area of the rig with foam, but as we all know, these creatures can squeeze through the smallest of openings. We also spray sections of the motorhome that are suspect, such as around the hot water tank and areas where there is wiring, with peppermint spray.
      For the past 3 years, we haven't had any problems. But in 2020 we discovered a rat in our rig. We determined it was in the heat distribution system - the flexible housing where the heat moves from the furnace to various floor heat vents in the rig. It may have entered the motorhome through the vent opening on the exterior of the motorhome, but who knows.
      We could hear something in the heating system and eventually, it was killed when we started the furnace. It became caught in the fan wheel. When I opened up the furnace, I found the body. I guess they like to get into warm places, especially in the winter months, and heating pipes are ideal.
      We learned from this to always seal the outside vent opening into the furnace whenever we are away for any length of time (eg storage periods). We also learned to frequently check our vent housings to determine if there are any nests, or heaven forbid, decaying mouse or rat bodies. One technique is to open each vent opening in the floor and try to get a good picture of the trackway with our cell phone - to see if we catch an image of anything. An endoscopy type of camera device would be ideal, and I think you can buy this type of scope.
      Another thing we do is open the inspection boxes to the heat housing lines (we have two) to insert a camera and feel if there is anything obstructing the line.
      Another obvious entry point that we all have, that is perfect for allowing a mouse, rat or a squirrel to enter, is the area in our wet bay where we open up the hatch to allow access for our electrical cable and water hose hookups while at an RV park. The electrical cable and water hose are convenient ladders for the creatures. Once inside this area, they are free to roam anywhere in the bays and upwards into the rig. It's a good idea to place soft foam or some other flexible stuff, like steel wool, around your incoming cables to close off this area.
      As a last resort, we travel with two cats! They are the ones whose ears alerted us to something in the heating system.
      The question you raised is an important one, because I believe there is no absolute way to keep mice (not sure about squirrels) out of any place where we humans live. The best we can do is minimize the opportunity for them to enter. I hope I've offered a few tips, and what we can do to inspect our rigs in the event that they get inside.

    Hi. Really nice rig with perfectly functioning systems. Wow factor. On my bucket list is to address creeping window syndrome on my 90’s Country Coach; every window has the creep! Did you replace windows or have the seals replaced in the old ones? Can you approximate the cost? Thank you.

    • @ThisOldRV2023
      @ThisOldRV2023  5 днів тому +2

      Hi, and thanks for your kind comment. I bet your Country Coach is a gem. I guess creeping seals are quite common on our older coaches. We too had creeping seals in all windows. On the recommendation of the place that did the work, we chose to replace the window glass, rather than replace the seals in the old windows.
      This was RV Glass Solutions in Coburg, Oregon. They are highly respected for this kind of work. They suggested replacing our old windows with laminated glass and we chose a light, bronze tint. While we lost a bit of R factor because of the lack of air space, they suggested we probably wouldn't notice the difference compared to the old ones. They were right.
      They told us if we chose to reuse the old glass and simply have them taken out, pulled apart, cleaned and new seals installed, there was a likelihood that the seals would again creep. So, why risk it, even if the chance of that happening might be years down the road. The cost of doing either process was about the same. We paid $3,500 USD for the entire job. This was last January, 2024. They honoured a quote they had given us 4 years prior. We had to cancel one booking because of Covid, and then other things popped up resulting in the delay getting there. We live on Vancouver Island in British Columbia, near Victoria. Freezing the price for us was a very decent thing for them to do.
      We cannot say enough good things about this company. They do great work and they honour their work guarantee. I believe they have another location in the east, and one in Arizona. If you are interested, I would suggest calling them in Coburg and go from there. The contact person is Karie Murphy, she will likely answer the phone. The number is: 541 762-1848. Her email is: kariem@rvglassexperts.com
      Address: 91302 Coburg Industrial Way; Coburg OR 97408
      I hope this helps. All the best. Bill
