    Don’t rush to decorate for Christmas. I’ve noticed people on Instagram decorate in November then come Boxing Day they’re desperate to take them down. I think putting them up in December and keeping them u tip new year is traditional and it means that in those slow days between Christmas and new year you can relax and really savour them.
    I adore you’re home and hope you get finished soon, so you can cosy up with Ollie, Otto and your new baby! X

    An open fireplace is lovely, I wish I still had one. The attention involved is almost like a ritual, it reminds me of cosy times. Wood tends to crack and spit when burning, sometimes the kindling used to light the coal does as well. Please get yourselves a lovely fire guard to keep the fire contained, especially in front of the rug and wooden floor. Make sure that the chimney has been swept and is drawing well. You will need tongs and a poker, as well as a brush, shovel and bucket to clean the grate out in between fires. A clean grate is essential.

    So excited to see your progress. That was a great way to use up the paint you didn't want in the sitting room. My initial thought was to simply curtain off your hallway of doom, I like the changes planned for in the sitting room. You will need a fire guard, as I'm sure you know. to stop any scorching of your rug. I had a lot planned for my maternity leave but was forced to take bed rest in hospital for a while. Please take care not to over do it. I look forward to your vlogs every Friday :-)

      Thank you for this comment. I’m scared to see the coal fire - it’s catastrophic for outdoor air quality but, also, the indoors PM 2.5 particulate pollution will embed into Laura and her baby’s internal organs (including their hearts and lungs). PM 2.5 particles cause asthma, respiratory diseases, heart problems, strokes, etc. 😔We need to start remembering the dangers of burning dirty fuels like coal and wood. It’s almost as though we’ve forgotten.

Or a shovel and newspaper 😂😂. Then logs and faux coal. Watch for sparks hitting rug, that might just be from using logs with sea salt still in them. Looks fantastic ❤

    What is the carpet made from, and what did you clean it with? I have something similar/same colour and terrified of cleaning it with the wrong product and making it worse! If you run out of time, put a rod across that landing, and put a temporary curtain up. That would enable you to put your feet up, relax and get some rest. From my experience (x4) you it is really important to get plenty of rest at this stage..... especially with Christmas coming up.....

  • @moiragoldsmith7052

    Find a local coal merchant, their prices are more reasonable and their smokeless coal tends to be of better quality. You need super dry kindling and dry coal (it can sometimes be damp/wet). I keep the scraps of candle wax and fluff from the tumble dryer and any unprinted paper to help start the fire.
    I trust you have a 'bleezer' (?), it helps to draw the air up through the initial starting fire. I LOVE my open fire...it is a real treat to sit by. Your local woodland walks will supply you with kindling, collect it when you see it and leave it to dry over the Summer Hope all goes well withthe birth...so happy for you. Xx. ENJOY🎉🎉🎉

  • @Annabelx2000
    @Annabelx2000 11 місяців тому

    We use logs on our fire and we start by screwing up newspaper and completely covering the bottom of the fire, then lay the kindling in a crisscross lattice kind of shape, with small logs on top (just to get the fire going then you can put bigger logs on) and then you light the newspaper and that gets the fire going really well. Hope this helps!

    Such a good idea to have a heater in the staircase next to the nursery. I can imagine that will be nice when going from place to place.
    Would it be useful to install a sliding door at the entry to the hallway where you worked in this video? That way as long as no one is staying in that bedroom and bathroom on that side, the heat from the stairway will be more noticeable and can travel to the rooms you are using more :) Perhaps there are some beautiful sliding doors that make it a feature to walk up to as well

    Can you even buy any other coal than smokeless coal. I have an open fire, and for safety a few years ago, I got a door for it. The best thing ever . It's easy to find a door for a normal open fire here in Ireland. You also get the seal, but we had to get a friend to put it on. We are not that good.😮. You can, of course, still see the fire through the glass door 😊
