Great Video and I love your history of parks videos. Thank you for this. BPB is my childhood park and the one that got me into coasters. There was so much in this video i didn't know. Can't wait for rest of the series.
Great video. It may have been called a the Virginia Reel when it opened in 1922 but I only saw it called The Reel on the signage when I was growing up in the 70s and 80s. My parents always referred to it as The Reel too. And the post card you found calls it The Reel too. I think we have Roller Coaster Tycoon to thank for effectively retconning it back to being the Virginia Reel again. I rode it in 1981 and 1982 and it was terrifying. No restraints, sat in a circle with your arms around the person next to you. Half-way down the track I bashed heads with the girl next to me. We almost knocked each other out! 😂
Great video. I love looking back at the history of this place. I thought I'd found everything online that there was to see about this but you still found a few things I didn't know about. Looking forward to the rest of the series.
Great vid as always, your channel is super underrated! One vid I would really like to see is an alton/thorpe version of the Alphabetical order pleasure beach vid, as I really enjoyed it! (Tho You would probs have to wait until school holidays are over to get anything done lol)
Brilliant vid… more in depth than what I usually see of BPB history vids but without dragging on! Also, am I right in thinking Nickelodeon streak is technically older than the big dipper? 🤔
I’ve been looking forward to this series for ages. I love the Pleasure Beach, holds so many good and happy memories for me 😁👍. Thanks for covering one of my all time favourite parks. A great video as always mate. I look forward to the other parts 😊
@@coaster_dad Your welcome mate it is all the truth, I’ll look forward to watching that on Thursday then. Keep up the great work mate. Glad to see your getting the recognition you deserve 😁👍
Fantastic fella, some great research, pretty sure we are about the same age, my first ever Blackpool Holiday was 1975 when Id be 6 - Always remember the journey down from Glasgow feeling ages. Had a look on Your home page for an email address as I was going to send you a few snaps, I only really do email and not on other socials etc. Thanks again.
Absolutely fantastic video with more history than I know and I genuine thought I knew it all lol. I love mystery rides so now I'm googling like crazy. Can't wait for the next installment xxx
@coaster_dad When is the next one out. Watched this one 3 times already. Ha ha. You know this is what I've been waiting for since I found your channel.
@clareriley episodes will be release Thursdays and Sundays. I’m just prepping the Geoffrey Thompson one just now and there’s so much I may need to split it in two 🙈
Great video, I just came across your channel after looking at videos of Blackpool and I find your videos interesting to watch. If you’ve not seen it, there’s a BBC documentary series on the Pleasure Beach that could be good to check out for your later videos.
Im guessing hight restrictions weren't a thing my mum would have had to worry about back then... Otherwise id probably have been screwed 😅@coaster_dad
Really enjoyed the video mate, but you put till 1927 then you mentioned stuff for 1928 😂 When will part 2 be out?? What other theme park visits you got for the rest of this year in UK/abroad?? 👍🏻
lol. Part two on Thursday. As for visits. Got Efteling and Walibi Holland later this month and Emerald Park in September. Other than that nothing planned.
@@coaster_dad Ah nice Efteling-I'm vry impressed with what I have seen of the amount of building work for the Grand Hotel opening in 2025 as you know. Along with the full new area of: Huyverwoud Forest with the new Dark Ride: Danse Macabre opening in late October as you also know 😎 Good old Walibi Holland, I remember back in the day when it was called: Flevohof..... Emerald Park eh, not been there since ti changed to that-just when it was: Tayto Park.... Other theme parks going to this year will be Chessington in a couple of weeks and end of Sept going to Blackgang Chine.... In April went to one of my fav theme parks abroad-Liseberg along with one of my fav cities Gothenburg! What was the last museum you went to??
@mikekaraoke yeah I’m gutted I’ll miss Danse Macabre but last time I went I missed the Flying Dutchman and dream flight so looking forward to them! not been to a museum in a while and it would have been the one up the road for me. The national museum of Scotland 🙂
@@coaster_dad Oh did ya, in those years they opened lol How long ago was you at the National Museum of Scotland?? 😀 Last museum I was at was: Madame Tussauds-Blackpool on the 2nd day we were there this time last year-stayed 2 nights/3 days in Blackpool-Sandcastle-Waterpark was done on the 3rd day 🏊🏻♀🏊🏻♂🌊
Intresting video sir. I follow your videos with great interest. Do you recall Battersea fun fair?. May I suggest a video on this iconic venue of the 70s 👍☕
Please tell my Misses that the big one is alot less scary the the oblivion. We live 10 minutes down the road and shes to scared to go. Great vids. Subscribed
Basically it’s a protected “building” and it limits what the park can do. They can’t remove it and I believe they also can’t many major alterations either. They need to basically preserve it as is.
Was on the Virginia Reel as a child at the first bend flying over to the other seat face first and bursting my nose.
Oh wow 🙈 again lack of restraints huh
Ah the good old days.
This is great, thank you for making it. I'm looking forward to watching the other parts 😊
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed. There’s so much history in the park 😀

Really great video. So much history and I appreciate all the research you have done, it must have taken countless hours!
It sure did and I’m still finding stuff for the last two episodes 🙈

That Rainbow Wheel thing, sounds a bit like a forerunner to the Vekoma Mad House.
Yeah I guess it does 😀

@coaster_dad Thompson will need about 3 episodes unless your going to do one feature length. Love the jeff days . True love for family happiness.
I really enjoyed this ! So fascinating 😊
Thank you. Hope you enjoy the others when they drop too 😊
Interesting stuff. Only been there twice but want to go again. I can usually nitpick most UA-camrs, but really like your presenting style.
Thank you very much 🙂
Virginia Reel was a brilliant ride!
Ah it looks it. Wish I’d got on it 😔
@@coaster_dad I only got on it once! It closed in 1982 😞
Its amazing how different blackpool seafront looked in the 1800s
Absolutely. Completely different place huh
@@coaster_dad checkout a video called blackpool through time to show much the land was changed by man to create the promenade as we now know

Thanks coaster dad I’m showing my age but I remember going on both the Virgina reel and Noah’s ark 💭

On some things yeah. But when you see the accidents from the past it’s definitely better than it was
You could spend hours in the fun house especially if the weather was bad
It does look that way 😀
