As an english speaking nerd, I'm on the "Gathering" side 100%, I always get confused when I see Jp tweets using "MTG" lol
same, i thought they are was discussing about yugioh
Yeah, I see tweets that say like "MTG for an hour then Valo" or whatever and I *still* always get a moment of excitement before I remember that they're actually saying they have a meeting scheduled before their Valorant stream.
bro i dont even play it but i also thought tht as well HAHA
Even foreigners would think Magic the Gathering when they heard MTG.
Iirc I think from hololive, it's Fubuki that got confused when seeing her co-worker tweeting mtg and found out that they didn't do a card game.
A certain political hag has semi-ruined the abbreviation by also being referred to as MTG in media shorthand
Fubuki now uses it in her tweets too, which in turn really confused me the first time I saw it.
I was confused too, I've never seen anyone use MTG to shorten "meeting" before until I started watching vtubers.
I was like "wow, they sure love Magic over there, they play with their managers every week!"
Poor Ars, imagine her looking for the rules of Magic before a meeting and coming with "I only have the started deck"
MTG used to be used as the abbreviation for "meeting" in businesses all the time. You would also find APPT for "appointment", BDG for "building", RM for "room", and W/ for "with". This is also the origin of using @ for the word "at". It's a system of writing called shorthand that was often used by assistants and secretaries to take speedy notes and pack information into a small space.
You don't see it as much these days because transcription can be done with a recording and calendars are handled digitally, but a lot of business speak and common abbreviations started from the days when the minutes of every meeting were kept by a secretary sitting in the corner of the room with a notepad writing extremely fast.
I know the others... But building is BDG??? Not Bld.???
I guess for English speakers, it's the capitalization that throws us off. We're hardwired to treat all caps as acronyms by default. I usually see those abbreviations in lowercase with a period at the end. (appt./mtg./bdg./bldg./rm./apt./pg. )
i personally still see bldg for building and w/ for with, and i use those abbreviations often myself. appt for appointment can be found still, as can rm for room, but those are from memories from a decade ago instead of just recently, so i'm not entirely sure if they're as widely used nowadays.
@@geneMag yeah, this, pretty much. Moreover, the usage of MTG from vtubers tend to give the vibe of content-related abbreviation.
Such as Magic the Gathering.
bruh,I can’t believe japanese people uses MTG as “meeting”
to me, that’s insane
It's just faster than writing miichinggu in full katakana or something ig
@@kazeiroP this might be the reason
@@kazeiroP I think its more complicated because to write ティ ( ti ) you have to first write テ ( te ), press X and then イ to get the small version ィ ( i )
ミーティング
@@yeagmatic point still stands
@@kazeiroP yeah my point is just that they still write (and pronounce) it as "ti", not "chi"
i almost always see Sena clips where she shouts a lot. her calm voice here is so soothing!!
Sena is super cutee
When she's not being all gremlin like, she's actually a sweet and easy going person during talk streams. Her conversations with her chat is always witty and pretty wholesome in the stories and interactions that she shares with her viewers. Definitely check her out!
Yes, her voice when in normal condition really beautiful. One of VSPo member with a lot cover song
There's actually some sexiness in her calm voice
Saameeee I didn't realize this was the same girl
Gosh Ars is cute.
Yeah her voice is really cute and the way she slams her desk in anger at 7:42
Her giggles is the cutest
@@MERW2 they were killer
If you use MTG as "meeting" you better bring your deck
Surprisingly informative
7:03 When Sumomo-coach mention "zoomy", I immediately understand it's zoom meeting lmao
Man imagine turning up for a business meeting with a white weenie or a burn deck and be like "I'M HERE TO WIN" and then being told "no sit down we're here to have a meeting about future activities"
I'm so glad Japanese people also think of Magic first and then are mystified when it's not.
I remember when I got into Hololive I understood from the context that it was "meeting" (and there's also "STG" for "shooting" as in video game "shooters"), but I always think of the TGC first.
Btw, Japanese people also have several German, Dutch, and Portuguese loanwords they use, so it's not always a question of having learned a little English in school.
Even the "noruma" word they use when talking about quotas in Bocchi The Rock is "норма" from Russian.
Among vtubers I think only some Niji guys (Chaika, Hayato, Yashiro?, etc) and Natsume know (and play) the card game. So unless these people are present I guess everyone else will understand that MTG is meeting, if they know about it
A whole bunch of them used to play Arena but I don't think anyone has really played a decent amount on stream in a good long while. A long time ago I saw clips of all sorts of people playing while the likes of Yashiro commented on the gameplay but I can't even say the last time I saw them.
And here I thought we would get an increase in Japanese MTG players lmao
i love that sumono and ars basically sharing 1 cell brain
Nowadays with emails and calendars being synced and most meetings being online, we don't bother writing "MTG" or "Meeting" for our meetings. Zoom/Teams invites just show the subject title, and in my field of work from time to time we actually use "MTG" as shorthand for "Mortgage".
this team is so chill and fun, i love their convos.. did i say chill? haha, maybe not so chill, but very fun, love seeing these clips thank you TL san.
Not sure I've ever seen meeting abbreviated to mtg. It isn't something I see used in my work here in the UK. I'd also expect if meeting was abbreviated it'd be lowercase. If I saw uppercase MTG, I'd definitely assume it was referring to Magic unless it had very clear contextual clues.
man. suntempo is full of smart boys !
TBH, I've only seen people use "MTG" when talking about it online. From where I live, we've been using "Magic" as a term for the game for the longest time. "Hey, wanna play some Magic?", "I think I want to buy a pack of Magic", etc.
And yeah, I've also received messages using MTG as shorthand for "meeting" although it's uncommon.
Hmm, a lot of ppl don't seems to be familiar with meeting's short form, but in the business clique that's not uncommon really.
In business and some other part of the working community, you see it a lot in coworker's online calendar (particularly in a company where the schedule of everyone in your team is visible online so everyone can book for each other's time when needed for certain work that require their specialty) and before everything went online a similar thing was done on paper or whiteboard or inkboard.
ppl generally shortform a lot of things because there's really not that much space on the calendar for people to see since it gets crowded really fast even when the calendar is filtered down (in modern times when everything is now online).
So in order to make the calendar still readable at a glance, the schedule of the members are often prefixed or otherwise marked with shortform to describe what they are:
MTG - meeting
INTV - interview
etc...
it just makes things easier back then when space is at a premium, and you need to know the essence of what ppl are doing, these days though the more modern online calendar suite generally have far better options for categorizing calendar events so they probably don't need it anymore.
we have to bring our deck for each meeting from now on..
Then there's "Idol MTG" which the HoloEN use when they need a toilet break XD
Managers The Gathering
I don't know if this bothered anyone else but that video start sound was suuuuper loud this time. Otherwise, thanks for the subbed clip!
Oh you are right! I turned the volume of everything up including that SFX, unintentionally, as the original vod is super low. Sorry for that.
The new set is Lord of the ring that's why they release The one ring version.
But i guess there are a lot of LOTR fan who gonna keep box sealed. So it'll never be pulled from the pack Eternity.
Many people in the comments section kind of confuse. Apparently, in some of Asians country like mine Malaysia use MTG as a short form for meeting because the reason is really simple, it's short and look 'professional'? Idk but most of us use short form sentence because for us typing full sentence is such a pain.
The bane of my existence, waseigo
astel eigo jouzu I’m not surprised ww
Idol meeting became Idol Magic the Gathering
this problem occured to Watame too. Fans assume that shes entering MTG tourna in her tweets when infact its a meeting lol
Ars is funny here 7:44
make it happen! Mane-san VS talent MTG tourney! lmao
I think a lot of confusion would be avoided if the practice was mtg (lower case) for meeting, and MTG for magic.
Poor Ars, she almost got closer to her managers, turns out it's not MTG card game lol
How to test someone is a gamer or a businessman xD
I wonder if we will ever get to hear Yashiro, Kagami Shachou about this thing
I'd also have thought it was an abbreviation for Magic The Gathering
I love them so muchhhh
Ars laughter tskr
English speakers rarely abbreviate meeting to MTG. I guess more EN people associate MTG with Magic The Gathering.
if its written english, then yeah.. there are some words we cut it short..
japanese love to cut the words short too, even when spoken.. like mcdonalds (マクド), happy new year (あけおめ) etc etc..
just the matter of getting exposure n use to it
Idk if I’m old school or what but I always thought abbreviated words were made to cut long expressions shorter like ROFL, LMAO,ETC, FML. I wouldn’t have thought MTG meant something other than the card game 🤣 now people seem to cut down alot of words for no reason lol
my bilingual king fr
I remember the old times of Manmaru English time in Minecraft 😂
Native English speaker: I also would assume MTG is Magic The Gathering and not meeting.
Wtf, his laugh so cute
Is the katakana for meeting ミチンッグ?
Understandble why people used mtg。
I dont play magic the gathering but ive always thought mtg was that. Until one of my friends corrected me due to confusion lol
I wish Vtubers would play Magic.
for me, mtg will always be magic the gathering, and not meeting. but i can understand the abbreviation.
Btw, do English speakers NOT abbreviate the word "meeting" ?
Some words are abbreviated like ..
Mount -> Mt.
Station -> Stn.
jp really uses MTG to infer "meeting"? i thought it was just some kind of joke since my first exposure to that was someone laughing about it being used like that
broo what is that MTG lmao
Wait _whaaaat_ ???
Who uses mtg for “meeting”?? 🤨
Great that they use these words so that as a non-native English speaker, I can understand them and improve my vocabulary
English is hard, then you add abbreviation with context, then you add japanese context and then japanese contexted abbreviation 😢
I might've ask what format do play
can you please not zoom apex? my eyes are starting to hurt
Nah but MTG is magic the gathering
I hope Japan would get over their "foreign words are so cool" phase already
I was still wondering what "MTG" actually meant before watching this video. You might not believe it, I even did a search on Google and what I got was "Magic The Gathering"
BTW, their laughs so hilarious when they know what is MTG meant
