your husband it's right about ghost's gimmick compared to og kind diamond specially with his first band marcyful fate some ghost tunes also kind of reminds me mercyful fate vibes actually i guess Tobias music, lirics because it was "satanic" same as ghost and even make up were inspired by mercyful fate's style.
Alice Cooper was painting his face for stage. Performances long before any other rock musician was. Now, Gene Simmons will tell you that he invented it. But Alice Cooper was doing it ten years previous to gene simmons or king diamond. I do agree with the sound comparison between ghost and blue oyster cult. Also, love the hat😊
King Diamond & Mercyful Fate : These albums were heavy-laden with Satanism and the occult (a big gimmick in the 80s metal scene) : 1982 - MERCYFUL FATE [EP] (a 4-song eponymous "mini-album" which is often aka Nuns Have No Fun) 1983 - MELISSA 1984 - DON'T BREAK THE OATH Mercyful Fate splits up due to musical difference ; King goes solo, retaining 2 of members from MF. King drops much of the Satanism and occult material in exchange for supernatural and ghost story topics. His albums also become more thematically conceived (concept albums), with the exception of 2 albums, which have "mini-concepts", where only 4 songs comprise the conceptual theme, all other songs being stand alone tracks. 1985 - NO PRESENTS FOR CHRISTMAS [Single] (this song is so out of the usual fare for King, it is a must - a humorous and but still very heavy song, worth a reaction, but be sure to do the STUDIO version, NOT live, for the best rendition of all elements!) 1986 - FATAL PORTRAIT (first "mini-concept", which include the songs The Candle, The Jonah, The Portrait, and Haunted) 1987 - ABIGAIL (first full-concept album) 1988 - THEM 1989 - CONSPIRACY (a continuation of the story told on THEM) 1990 - THE EYE (concept album based on actual historical events) Interest in Mercyful Fate stirs, and a compilation of old 1981/1982 demos is released : 1992 - RETURN OF THE VAMPIRE In the vein of lost recordings, a live King Diamond album is released from the tour promoting Abigail : 1992 - ABIGAIL : Live In Concert 1987 Mercyful Fate reunites, all original members except the drummer. This original line up slowly begins to fall away as members depart form the band for one reason or another : 1993 - IN THE SHADOWS 1994 - THE BELL WITCH [Single + 4-track live EP] 1994 - TIME At this point, Mercyful Fate albums and King Diamond albums are released in concurrently, usually within a few weeks of each other : 1995 - THE SPIDER'S LULLABYE [KD] (The second album to feature the "mini-concept", comprised of the songs : The Spider's Lullabye, The Eastmann Cure, Room 17, To The Morgue) 1996 - INTO THE UNKNOWN [MF] 1996 - THE GRAVEYARD [KD] 1998 - DEAD AGAIN [MF] (foreshadowing the second demise of Mercyful Fate) 1998 - VOODOO [KD] 1999 - 9 [MF] (the final Mercyful Fate album... so far) King Diamond continues to release material, including live albums and another old lost recordings treat for fans (a rehearsal recording of King's band before Mercyful Fate, Black Rose in the late 70s) 2000 - HOUSE OF GOD 2001 - 20 Years Ago : A NIGHT OF REHEARSAL (Black Rose) (a very raw but worthwhile "live" rehearsal recording - some songs are so good they should have been officially recorded and released on MF/KD albums) 2002 - ABIGAIL II : THE REVENGE (self-explanatory ; the story or Abigail is revisited and continued) 2003 - THE PUPPET MASTER 2004 - DEADLY LULLABYES LIVE (all KD songs - no MF songs at all) 2005 - IN THE FIRE (a song which King appears on an all-star compilation/collaboration album of Roadrunner Records artists) 2007 - GIVE ME YOUR SOUL, PLEASE (the final official King Diamond studio album, concept or otherwise) 2009 - EVIL and CURSE OF THE PHARAOHS (two newly recorded versions of classic MF songs from their 1983 album, featured as Guitar Hero tracks in 2009) 2013 - ROOM 24 (a song in which King provides guest vocals with the band Volbeat - an amazing track) Around this time, King Diamond has severe health problems and undergoes a triple-bypass heart surgery, so no new material surfaces til after his recovery : 2018 - SONGS FOR THE DEAD (a special live tour celebrating a milestone anniversary of the Abigail album, featuring the entire album played in full, start to finish, along with other KD/MF favorites - this is hailed as one of this best live performances, sounding better than ever even after his health ordeals) That's all I got, music-wise.
Diamond was one of the founders of Mercyful Fate (check out some of their tunes) and has performed on and off in the band as well as his self titled band. Enjoy checking them out.
Most of King Diamond's albums are concept albums, One long centralize story. Abigail was the second album venture after the original disbanding of Merciful Fate in 1984. Lyrically, King Diamond is to shock-rock what Steffen King is to writing stories. Original concepts that will make the hair on your neck stand up. One of my favorites,{ not the only one} Into the Convent. ua-cam.com/video/9Q9RrbydTOU/v-deo.html Just to get your feet wet.
King Diamond was born in Denmark as Kim Bendix Petersen and his upbringing in conservative religious Europe fueled his antagonism towards Christianity... He started singing in bands since the 70's before he formed the band Mercyful Fate in 1980 and began exploring horror/ fantasy themes w/ satanic overtones. His piercing falsetto vocals became a trademark, and he wore face paint when he performed live (King Diamond was sued by the band Kiss in the 80's for allegedly knocking off their trademark face paint). Mercyful Fate debuted in 1983 w/ 'Melissa' and it shocked the metal world and horrified adults w/ disturbing themes and satanic lyrics... They released "Don't break the oath' in 1984... Lars Ulrich of Metallica (who is from Denmark) recalled being terrified of Mercyful Fate (Metallica recorded a 'Mercyful Fate' medley in 1998) The problem in 1985 was allegedly guitarist Hank Shermann wanting to introduce funk music to the band, and King said, "No." So, Shermann parted ways and King Diamond hired the rest of Mercyful Fate w/ Andy LaRocque (guitars) and Mikkey Dee (drums) to form a solo band and debuted w/ the first King Diamond album "Fatal portrait" in 1986. However, the ambitious King Diamond wrote a story which would be told in the order of the songs w/ the 'Abigail' album... a tale of a cursed child seeking her rebirth years after she was murdered by her mother's husband in 1777. In 1988, King Diamond scored his biggest album "Them" - he drew inspiration from his own life portraying his 'Grandma' as an evil witch (His real grandmother gave up his mother for adoption and years later, refused to acknowledge that she had a daughter out of wedlock) She owned a haunted family house called 'Amon'... the story was told by a boy named 'King'. In 1989, he released 'Conspiracy'... a follow up to "Them" where 'King' is an adult who now owns 'Amon'... and his late sister 'Missy' warns him of a conspiracy to steal the house from his ownership... His 1990 album "The Eye" was not a concept album, but drew from stories about the Salem Witch trials. Because of a contractual dispute, a new King Diamond album ("The Spider's lullabye") would not be released until 1995... and only Andy LaRocque (guitar) would remain from the original solo band... He wrote more concept albums - 'The Graveyard' (1996)... 'Voodoo' (1998)... 'House of God' (2000) and a sequel album "Abigail II: The Revenge" in 2002... and then, 'The Puppet Master' (2003). In the meantime, King also reunited w/ Hank Shermann (guitar) to reform Mercyful Fate in 1993, releasing the album 'In the shadows'... They also released more albums - 'Time' (1994)... 'Into the unknown' (1996)... 'Dead again' (1998)... and '9' (1999) ... Eventually, only King and Hank Shermann from the original Mercyful Fate are in the band today, but Mercyful Fate took a break after 2000... They reunited to tour recently. King Diamond released "Give me your soul, please" in 2007... Unfortunately, it was his last studio album for a while. King Diamond underwent heart surgery and took years to recover, but would take the stage once again to tour in 2015.
Anyone who loves King also loves Mercyful. Not only is the vocal style the same, but it is also sometimes musically similar - King writes a lot of the music for King Diamond, and also writes some of Mercyful Fate's music. All Mercyful Fate music has King on vocals. The band did split, but then got back together in the early 90's. King's vocals can be polarizing - people either love them or hate them. Similarly fans squabble over whether King or Mercyful is better, which era or album is better, etc, but that squabbling is good natured; at the end of the day everyone knows that they're all on the same side, so the King/Mercyful fandom can be quite wholesome. Glad you enjoyed this. Hope to see more King or Mercyful reaction/reviews in future. Though I won't say which my fave albums are, because I think both bands are worth just checking out for yourself and seeing what you like from an unbiased perspective. Have fun!
A imagem do show é do Monsters Of rock de 96 em São Paulo, mas o som é de um show em 87, por isso não está sincronizado com a imagem, reage a música the possession em filmore Philadelphia por favor🙃🤟🏽
Creo que la musica es del album en directo Abigail in concert 1987 con Timi Hansen bajo, Mickey Dee bateria, Michael Moon guitarra y Andy La Rocque guitarra y no del directo que se ve en imagen.
A crazy one for October/Horror is Infant Annihilator “Blasphemian”. It’s an assault on the senses for sure. As creepy as it is the visuals are neat in a way.
Mercyful fate was a band that influenced Metallica, they even made a Mercyfl fate medley on garage inc. For songs I would suggest Evil or Insane. Also a lot of the voice changing king dialond does is to switch the characters in the song he is portaying.
Ahh that's cool about the voice changing to portray characters. I wouldn't have guessed that (especially just from one listen 😂) and yeah, my husband told me about Metallica doing a medley and played it for me cause I totally forgot about it. Good stuff. 🤘
Abigail is one of the best concept albums of all time. It is up there with Operation: Mindcrime, The Wall and Tommy. Great performance, SHIT crowd. The story told over the entire album is of a man who inherits a home from a family member he barely knew. On the way to the home he is confronted by a group of horsemen who warn him not to go because the house is haunted. He, obviously ignores the warning. Soon after arriving his wife is possessed by the ghost of Abigail who was a stillborn child. This song covers the section of the story where Abigail and Miriam (the wife) are fighting for control over Miriam's body. Miriam tells Jonathan (the husband) she is lost and he must kill her by pushing her down the stairs. PERFECT album for this time of year. Here is the full explanation of the story. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abigail_(album)
That is a bad edit and video job. Try some from the Fillmore
I'll have to do that. Thank you!
😍😍😍
Carcass “Kelly’s Meat Emporium” is visually intriguing as well.

1982 - MERCYFUL FATE [EP] (a 4-song eponymous "mini-album" which is often aka Nuns Have No Fun)

His albums also become more thematically conceived (concept albums), with the exception of 2 albums, which have "mini-concepts", where only 4 songs comprise the conceptual theme, all other songs being stand alone tracks.
1985 - NO PRESENTS FOR CHRISTMAS [Single] (this song is so out of the usual fare for King, it is a must - a humorous and but still very heavy song, worth a reaction, but be sure to do the STUDIO version, NOT live, for the best rendition of all elements!)
1986 - FATAL PORTRAIT (first "mini-concept", which include the songs The Candle, The Jonah, The Portrait, and Haunted)
1987 - ABIGAIL (first full-concept album)
1988 - THEM
1989 - CONSPIRACY (a continuation of the story told on THEM)
1990 - THE EYE (concept album based on actual historical events)
Interest in Mercyful Fate stirs, and a compilation of old 1981/1982 demos is released :
1992 - RETURN OF THE VAMPIRE
In the vein of lost recordings, a live King Diamond album is released from the tour promoting Abigail :
1992 - ABIGAIL : Live In Concert 1987
Mercyful Fate reunites, all original members except the drummer. This original line up slowly begins to fall away as members depart form the band for one reason or another :
1993 - IN THE SHADOWS
1994 - THE BELL WITCH [Single + 4-track live EP]
1994 - TIME
At this point, Mercyful Fate albums and King Diamond albums are released in concurrently, usually within a few weeks of each other :
1995 - THE SPIDER'S LULLABYE [KD] (The second album to feature the "mini-concept", comprised of the songs : The Spider's Lullabye, The Eastmann Cure, Room 17, To The Morgue)
1996 - INTO THE UNKNOWN [MF]
1996 - THE GRAVEYARD [KD]
1998 - DEAD AGAIN [MF] (foreshadowing the second demise of Mercyful Fate)
1998 - VOODOO [KD]
1999 - 9 [MF] (the final Mercyful Fate album... so far)
King Diamond continues to release material, including live albums and another old lost recordings treat for fans (a rehearsal recording of King's band before Mercyful Fate, Black Rose in the late 70s)
2000 - HOUSE OF GOD
2001 - 20 Years Ago : A NIGHT OF REHEARSAL (Black Rose) (a very raw but worthwhile "live" rehearsal recording - some songs are so good they should have been officially recorded and released on MF/KD albums)
2002 - ABIGAIL II : THE REVENGE (self-explanatory ; the story or Abigail is revisited and continued)
2003 - THE PUPPET MASTER
2004 - DEADLY LULLABYES LIVE (all KD songs - no MF songs at all)
2005 - IN THE FIRE (a song which King appears on an all-star compilation/collaboration album of Roadrunner Records artists)
2007 - GIVE ME YOUR SOUL, PLEASE (the final official King Diamond studio album, concept or otherwise)
2009 - EVIL and CURSE OF THE PHARAOHS (two newly recorded versions of classic MF songs from their 1983 album, featured as Guitar Hero tracks in 2009)
2013 - ROOM 24 (a song in which King provides guest vocals with the band Volbeat - an amazing track)
Around this time, King Diamond has severe health problems and undergoes a triple-bypass heart surgery, so no new material surfaces til after his recovery :
2018 - SONGS FOR THE DEAD (a special live tour celebrating a milestone anniversary of the Abigail album, featuring the entire album played in full, start to finish, along with other KD/MF favorites - this is hailed as one of this best live performances, sounding better than ever even after his health ordeals)
That's all I got, music-wise.
A Mansion In Darkness, Black Horseman, The Invisible Guests, & Victimized still can't be beat!
about the make up... gene simmons tried suing king diamond over the make up.
😮 Really?
Well Gene will do anything for shekels... Alice Cooper was doing it before Gene....
Diamond was one of the founders of Mercyful Fate (check out some of their tunes) and has performed on and off in the band as well as his self titled band. Enjoy checking them out.
Thank you, I will definitely have to do that. 😊
Historical show in the city where I live
Great King Diamond 🤘
I love KING reactions

makes me wonder if he's even singing, if the vid is an accurate representation of the show. could be mimeing to a taped track, which would be lame.
