That’s my dad Jesse Scott and they did try to embarrass him. He was one of the many black actors who opened up the door for a lot of black actors that came after him. He was no idiot even though one comment thinks he was "the only black kid acting like an “idiot”. He wasn't acting like an idiot in the award winning movie "The Champ" with Cooper and "Dimples" with Shirley Temple Black. He was able to purchase a couple of homes in those days (the 30"s) . Let’s not forget the Beverly hill billies and the Three Stoges just a couple of shows if you want to mention acting like an idiot. I've learn to look at it as just comedy, that it made someone laugh who may have had a bad day. The thing is, they are still embarrassing actors today in rolls on TV and the box office not matter what color they are. And in spite of the trying to embarrass my father, I'm very proud of him.
Your dad was a trailblazer for black actors... This alone gets my respect... In those days black actors just weren't respected and had to take any role offered to them even if they didn't like it... Most of the roles that were offered were Hollywood stereotypes in one way or another... Some were just subtle and humanizing....most were over the top to a ridiculous level (ie the "idiot" roles)... Then...when Hollywood couldn't/wouldn't fill the roles...they resorted to blackface... Now most of these actors...regardless of race...couldn't act their way out of a wet paper bag.... Directors can't direct fertilizer to stink and producers couldn't produce a coherent thought if one came up to them and said "I am a coherent thought"... Even though the rant is over...we do need more great actors...regardless of color...
God bless your father. He indeed opened the door for slot of Black actors. They did those acting gigs because that's all they offered them. He doesn't look like an idiot in this little film just a cute kid.I just realized he did costar with Jackie Cooper in the movie The Champ. R.i.p. to your dad and Jackie Cooper.🌹🌹
Black child actors like the ones in the "Our Gang" comedies were actually very clever and enthusiastic . . . Some of them like "Farina," "Buckwheat," and especially "Stymie" became very good, polished actors . . . (No, I wasn't making an ethnic slur or pun . . .)
This is a gem. Just love Marie Dressler and Lionel Barrymore in it. Short but sweet! And we should not be judging this era by modern standards. It was a different time and place as they say.
You know, I felt so bad about not seeing your comments in that day before Easter live chat, that I had to check out your channel... and I found this treasure! No idea this even existed, thank you for posting it! And Happy Resurrection Day!
I'm still looking for a direction on revamping this channel... So far it's covered three or four... If it wasn't for Rhinestone...I would have never had the privilege of having that Razzilla moniker stuck to me within a five year period after reviewing bad movies... Not sure if I'll continue down the hockey rant route or not...but I do know that the future holds a few more comedic reviews which will go between movies and music... Plus thanks for joining the channel...
Old Hollywood Vintage Gal - You call yourself *_"Old Hollywood Vintage Gal"_* yet you've *NEVER* seen any of *Norma Shearer's* movies???? Not even *"The Women"???* What the fuck _HAVE_ you seen?
Regardless of what a black person is doing in a movie or short, can't they have a black person doing his or her role without somebody here whining racism? I dont know how many videos I've seen on UA-cam that had a black person where some one whines about racism. That black kid was enjoying his turkey, so what?

Was your Dad the fellow eating a turkey leg? He was great! Just looked like a handsome hungry kid enjoying his Christmas party dinner!
RIP Little Jackie Cooper! Thanks for all the great laughs... God Bless!
There was something very natural about Jackie Cooper as a child actor - so good!
I'VE WATCHED THIS FOR YEARS AND LOVE IT EACH TIME!!

The actresses had class, sexiness and glamour back then

I've never seen any of Norma Shearer's films, but she seems like a sweet heart in this short. OH! And I love Jackie Cooper :)

May I recommend "The Women"? Classic comedy, and Shearer stars with Joan Crawford.
Norma Shearer’s laugh is adorable
One of the football players is C. Ray Stahl, who became a Hollywood writer, director, and producer.
This was a cute short! :D
