This was the song that broke the Carpenters internationally in 1970. Winning the Grammy for 'Song of the Year'. Beating out the Beatles (Let It Be) and Simon and Garfunkel (Bridge Over Troubled Water) Not bad for the 20 year old Karen and 23 year old Richard. What followed the next few years was a string of phenomenal classic hit songs. Making the Carpenters one of the most beloved artists of all time. Your appreciation for their music Empress shows you have terrific instincts in what makes artists great. I loved your reaction. Cheers, RNB
I grew up on The Carpenters music all through the 70s. As you said, Karen had that voice that was comforting & soothing. She & her brother Richard had a sound all their own that is still timeless today ♥
First off your gorgeous! And aww Karen , i miss her music , they were great ,Richard was talented too , but Karens voice made this metal head cry 😢🤘🏻 lol superstar is my fav🥰 RIP Karen hope you found the peace that you couldn’t find /have here , in the arms of Jesus 🙏🏻
Karen was actually one the most relaxed singing drummers I've ever seen...She died way too young--The volume of work her and her brother Richard made in their time together was remarkable...Glad u loved it, sweetie!
Knew you’d love this one , one of their greats. Beautiful melody and voice. Voice ‘like a warm blanket’ …. You are not wrong. Just Richard on the keyboards is her brother.
Thanks, Empress - Karen was amazing.. so dark and sweet and smooth voice - but yet, she never wanted to be a singer -- she loved playing drums! Still, her brother Richard pushed her to sing (he was a good singer and songwriter, himself).. Once it was known how beautiful her voice was, she HAD to sing... so we have some great music by Karen.. but wish she had been happier and lived longer!
I hope everyone can find someone in their lives to feel that way about ! Yes she makes you feel as if you are connecting with her as she sings ! A real joy to listen to !
@EMPRESS JOY-JEAN Okay beautiful lady, Karen Carpenter was by far, one of the greatest female singers of all times. That Karen Carpenter voice just takes you to a special place that just makes you feel good. Check out a song that highlights that beautiful voice that most people forgot about called " Bless the beast and the Children " it won't disappoint.
That long ago, summer of '70-----------I was 23 y/o , heading to 24. Karen was 20 y/o, & Richard [ Brother & Sister ] was my age, 23 y/o. This song was #1, all over the world. ---------------WolfSky9, 75 y/o
I absolutely love all your reactions, but especially how much you expressed your enjoyment with your smiling happy face😀👍🏻👍🏻! Also Karen only had one brother . His name is Richard and he sings and plays the piano.
Empress, I agree. Karen Carpenter's singing was truly wonderful. Got to see them live in concert back in the 70's and it was a great performance. Karen sang and played the drums so effortlessly. Thanks for the reaction Empress!❤
I am very very very jealous of you Milton. I was born in 1984 and it was my mother who got me serious in love with The Carpenter's. I will always be greatful that I was introduced to them when I was young
@@kyoarthfael8083 Sorry to have made you so very jealous Kyo😄 But I must say your mom has excellent taste to have introduced you to The Carpenters. Their song, We've Only Just Begun, came out a few weeks after we were married. And we've loved them ever since.
@@miltonslocum8957 Superstar was the first song my mom played for me. I still remember the absolute chill that ran down my spine when Karen hit the first line of "Don't you remember what you told me baby". The emotion in Karen's voice is undeniable
the pretty young lady really seems to be passionate about this song 💜 -- for the same reasons I typed in a search just to hear that song and the joy it brings. 💙💜💙
You're right. Her voice is soothing. Didn't appreciate it till now. The Carpenters had such beautifully melodic songs. I don't know if you reacted to their song "Superstar." You MUST react to Luther Vandross' version. That man's voice will sweep you away. And how about reacting to Prince and "Purple Rain", the video from the movie of the same name.
The Carpenters were an underrated group from the 1970’s. Karen Carpenter died from anorexia or bulimia. She had a nice calming or soothing voice. I love her Christmas Songs.
Here’s a few for your notebook, Empress: Flashdance ‘What a Feeling’ Irene Cara (The HD version because it looks better) Gloria Estefan ‘Rhythm is Gonna Get You’(Official Video) Heart ‘These Dreams’(Official Music Video) Roxette ‘It Must Have Been Love’(Official Video) Sade ‘The Sweetest Taboo’ Official Tina Turner ‘The Best’(Official Music Video) Bonnie Tyler ‘Total Eclipse of the Heart(Video)
What's amazing is that Karen never wanted to be a lead singer. She was a drummer, and her brother Richard sang leads. Early on, a producer wanted to hear Karen sing, and the rest is history. They both have beautiful voices, but having Karen sing lead was magical. Love your reaction as always, Empress.
Poor Karen. 😢 The voice of an angel and unfortunately a body image torn by the Devil. Talent in unlimited amounts, but sadly. Her legacy is beyond compare. The trumpet is as far as I remember supplied by Herb Albert. You got an ability to pick some amazing artist, my dear Joy-Jean. Thank you so much. 🙏🏼
Hi Empress, yes, what a great singing voice. The video did skip. Not much though. Empress, keep up the good work. One song of theirs you need to put on your list is the song titled, Please Mr. Postman.
To me this is the song that show Karen's voice control. It really is a lesson in voice control. I have always said, when they invented auto tune, they used Karen's voice as their guide.
shes beautiful woman...................
Your beautiful smile made me smile. Thank you.

Hi Ms. Empress, As I have said many times, Ms. Karen's voice is so Pure and Smooth as Budder.. ♠W.G.

This was my high schools years. I think Richard was wearing my prom tux bow tie.
You have the innocence and laughter of a child. Keep up the good work, Empress!

Thank Herb Alpert for bringing this song to the Carpenters and signing them to his label.

So now watch the movie called "Too Close " an excellent chinese movie that uses this song throughout....and Empress, please try RUSH.

When that switch happened the part it switched to was just about to happen, it just kind of skipped the song ahead like one second.
