Whilst I appreciate you bringing this sad event to the table, you missed an entire discussion on how men treat women in today’s society. It’s not a race thing, nor is it a class thing. You lightly talked previously about the crazy lengths on how some men draw women at carnival. But I’m not seeing one group of men today who are having a serious discussion on it and putting shame on it. Take the knife away from this situation, put him in a different area, he would of probably still lost his shit and potentially beat one of the girls to a pulp. The initial story was that she rejected him and then he stabbed her, which in that case they'd have to have a deep discussion about the mistreatment of women. But it was a case of the boy taking his anger out on the girl's friend, even if it wasn't Eliyanna and it was another boy instead trying to protect the girl he probably would've stabbed him too. I don't think mistreatment of women is really relevant in this situation, it's more so the (very very old and depressing) issue of young men having easy access to these knives and being able to just swing it around whenever they feel distressed.
Need to talk about why men/boys cannot except no as an answer without getting emotionally distraught or violent towards women/girls. Education is needed and tough conversations regarding self respect and respect for women. Chuckie kudos for mentioning the relationship angle, get some women on to discuss how men have reacted to being rejected.

I’m so glad you are having these kind of conversations about life insurance. My mum died in 2021 as just like Chukie’s mum she use to always say if this happens this is what you do. Never wanted to hear it, but glad I listened because straight away was able to call the life insurance company get the money. Knew where her will was etc . And it’s not just about getting life insurance when you’ve got money. My life insurance is like £30 a month. If anything happens to me, my husband and children would get over a mil so it’s not bad at all

Life insurance is a must, but even before I said “I Do” we had the awkward conversation about having a Will and it’s the best thing I have ever done. It makes you and your loved ones happy to know that it’s all taken care of. But I don’t agree with inheritance tax, pay taxes on something that was left behind from a loved one.

This would've been a great opportunity to invite a youth worker/a gender based violence activist or just anyone who works and has experience/knowledge with this issues. This is too important of an issue to handle this lightly. However well intentioned the guys may be they clearly don't have the facilities to lead this convo, and that's fine. Sometimes the best thing to do is to amplify the voices of people who do. But there is an urgent conversation to be had about the current strain of misogyny running rampant in society and targeting young boys through social media, your andrew tates, kevin samuels and their copycats who are spewing bullshit and poisoning already impressionable young minds. There's also an issue with how boys aren't taught to process their emotions in healthy ways. Loving and respecting women as a feeling or an emotion isn't enough, we need real concrete actions to protect them because the inaction so far is getting them harassed and harmed on a daily basis.

Let me tell you know, sometimes kids are just fucked. There very little a parent can do say past 14+. At shiukd the rest of society suffer when some kid can’t control their emotion. Stricter punishment is needed. Say for example carry a knife, straight 5 years, no ifs or buts. People wouldn’t take that risk. Also increase stop and search. Your ego and your pride might take a dent but it’s for the greater good and it will save lives .
100% agree with poet about the positive representation, but I dare say that there’s a slight issue even with current tropes of black positive representation. At the moment it’s lopsided; when we talk about positive black images, we rarely talk about the other side of entertainment, sports, music and creative arts and that’s academia. We have to champion our black academics of all political standings, educators and young black intelligent people too. The fact that they’re rarely mentioned in the positive images conversation suggests that we don’t value them enough to positively reinforce them. There needs to be a re-centering of black culture and it too needs to be balanced. Let’s not forget the academics and scholars as they make colossal contributions to cultural, political and social discussions too.

At last someone mentioning the academics and scholars within black culture, we are never spoken about, it’s almost like it’s an embarrassment to be an academic within our hue,. We say it takes a village but how do we raise a village without the necessities such as lawyers, bankers, accountants, doctors, dentists etc? There’s an African-American educator from the 80s that explains these negative tendencies in black groups both statistically and empirically. He said that black students were more likely to encourage their peers to skip classes or to not bother studying for that difficult exam, in comparison to other groups. He found that with the other groups, you need to be smart to be part of the “in crowd”. Even their “cool” kids were smart. Tbh, these cool kids can afford the luxury to be cool because they’re already smart and intelligence, whether we like it or not, is a currency of social settings in schools and education. If you’re smart, more time you’re respected than not, even if you aren’t part of a crowd. This was exactly my experience in school. The study found that with black students the case is either a) they’re not so smart, b) they’re trendsetters or c) they have a doubled up identity to be part of the “in crowd”. The group with doubled up identities are comprised of black students that are either smart and don’t want to show it or black students that know they can’t afford to be dumb so they retain their intelligence whilst compensating for their perceived unpopularity by being the class clown so that they can still be part of the crowd. He wrote a book based on these differences, it’s called “to be popular or to be smart” by Jawanza Kunjufu. Granted that these studies reflect African-American attitudes in the context of 80s education, I currently see similar patterns and attitudes in black British children in schools and sadly, they were around when I went to school too.

Part of the solution to knife crime is the self belief to not give in to peer pressure and negative thought patterns that lead to the youth thinking ‘carrying a weapon is the only way I can feel safe’. There is a lot of inner work that needs to be done so these feelings don’t manifest externally as violence against others and oneself. Our perceptions and internal worlds can give rise to casualties with real life consequences. It’s about discernment, early intervention and healing our understandings of different emotions and channelling them positively in a way that doesn’t incite violence/ negativity.
An incident like this in public with a guy stabbing a girl with a machete is very rare. Or even stranger murder in London is rare, however the boy that commited this horrendous atrocity deserves to rot in jail for the rest of his life, even he is below the sge of 18. A whole life sentence should be applied.
il be honest I did at one stage (when i was a teen)(now 24) I made mistakes with a girl because I was insecure in myself that then led to her getting with someone else. it took a while but I realised that it was my own insecurities that actually made her go off me. I meant realised I had to change because ultimately that is not away to go about things. I apologised. couple years later we somehow came across each other and a convo was that we were both at fault, we both were young and didn't realise that we both hurt each other, she in a relationship and I'm talking to someone who is really cool and understands me. Sometimes it feels like rejection as a teen is ignored which can lead onto these things, luckily I saw my error, same with her but sometimes it feels like that's not a lesson that is really taught, the handling of rejection because at the time you feel like your world is falling apart... but it's not, your a teen. there will be people that find you attractive and one day you will end up finding someone but maybe that's a convo that needs to be taught in school to as well at home. I know that was not a convo I had and of course "some" parents will back their children even if they are in the wrong

Never wanted to hear it, but glad I listened because straight away was able to call the life insurance company get the money. Knew where her will was etc . And it’s not just about getting life insurance when you’ve got money. My life insurance is like £30 a month. If anything happens to me, my husband and children would get over a mil so it’s not bad at all

Life insurance is a must, but even before I said “I Do” we had the awkward conversation about having a Will and it’s the best thing I have ever done. It makes you and your loved ones happy to know that it’s all taken care of.
But I don’t agree with inheritance tax, pay taxes on something that was left behind from a loved one.
Ngl this episode was disappointing , they were completely wide of the mark. This would've been a great opportunity to invite a youth worker/a gender based violence activist or just anyone who works and has experience/knowledge with this issues. This is too important of an issue to handle this lightly. However well intentioned the guys may be they clearly don't have the facilities to lead this convo, and that's fine. Sometimes the best thing to do is to amplify the voices of people who do. But there is an urgent conversation to be had about the current strain of misogyny running rampant in society and targeting young boys through social media, your andrew tates, kevin samuels and their copycats who are spewing bullshit and poisoning already impressionable young minds. There's also an issue with how boys aren't taught to process their emotions in healthy ways. Loving and respecting women as a feeling or an emotion isn't enough, we need real concrete actions to protect them because the inaction so far is getting them harassed and harmed on a daily basis.

100% agree with poet about the positive representation, but I dare say that there’s a slight issue even with current tropes of black positive representation. At the moment it’s lopsided; when we talk about positive black images, we rarely talk about the other side of entertainment, sports, music and creative arts and that’s academia. We have to champion our black academics of all political standings, educators and young black intelligent people too. The fact that they’re rarely mentioned in the positive images conversation suggests that we don’t value them enough to positively reinforce them. There needs to be a re-centering of black culture and it too needs to be balanced. Let’s not forget the academics and scholars as they make colossal contributions to cultural, political and social discussions too.

At last someone mentioning the academics and scholars within black culture, we are never spoken about, it’s almost like it’s an embarrassment to be an academic within our hue,. We say it takes a village but how do we raise a village without the necessities such as lawyers, bankers, accountants, doctors, dentists etc? We definitely need a reset, appreciate those in the arts, hospitality, music, sport, but let’s not forget about the academics amongst us who as the OP said make a colossal contribution.

This discussion is well overdue. There’s an African-American educator from the 80s that explains these negative tendencies in black groups both statistically and empirically. He said that black students were more likely to encourage their peers to skip classes or to not bother studying for that difficult exam, in comparison to other groups. He found that with the other groups, you need to be smart to be part of the “in crowd”. Even their “cool” kids were smart. Tbh, these cool kids can afford the luxury to be cool because they’re already smart and intelligence, whether we like it or not, is a currency of social settings in schools and education. If you’re smart, more time you’re respected than not, even if you aren’t part of a crowd. This was exactly my experience in school. The study found that with black students the case is either a) they’re not so smart, b) they’re trendsetters or c) they have a doubled up identity to be part of the “in crowd”. The group with doubled up identities are comprised of black students that are either smart and don’t want to show it or black students that know they can’t afford to be dumb so they retain their intelligence whilst compensating for their perceived unpopularity by being the class clown so that they can still be part of the crowd. He wrote a book based on these differences, it’s called “to be popular or to be smart” by Jawanza Kunjufu. Granted that these studies reflect African-American attitudes in the context of 80s education, I currently see similar patterns and attitudes in black British children in schools and sadly, they were around when I went to school too.

Part of the solution to knife crime is the self belief to not give in to peer pressure and negative thought patterns that lead to the youth thinking ‘carrying a weapon is the only way I can feel safe’. There is a lot of inner work that needs to be done so these feelings don’t manifest externally as violence against others and oneself. Our perceptions and internal worlds can give rise to casualties with real life consequences. It’s about discernment, early intervention and healing our understandings of different emotions and channelling them positively in a way that doesn’t incite violence/ negativity.
An incident like this in public with a guy stabbing a girl with a machete is very rare. Or even stranger murder in London is rare, however the boy that commited this horrendous atrocity deserves to rot in jail for the rest of his life, even he is below the sge of 18. A whole life sentence should be applied.

il be honest I did at one stage (when i was a teen)(now 24) I made mistakes with a girl because I was insecure in myself that then led to her getting with someone else. it took a while but I realised that it was my own insecurities that actually made her go off me. I meant realised I had to change because ultimately that is not away to go about things. I apologised. couple years later we somehow came across each other and a convo was that we were both at fault, we both were young and didn't realise that we both hurt each other, she in a relationship and I'm talking to someone who is really cool and understands me. Sometimes it feels like rejection as a teen is ignored which can lead onto these things, luckily I saw my error, same with her but sometimes it feels like that's not a lesson that is really taught, the handling of rejection because at the time you feel like your world is falling apart... but it's not, your a teen. there will be people that find you attractive and one day you will end up finding someone but maybe that's a convo that needs to be taught in school to as well at home. I know that was not a convo I had and of course "some" parents will back their children even if they are in the wrong

has a 33yr old from Newham the amount of madness around me and my mates from 12 - 18 made me numb to stabbings ect and I think that's what is happening still but what happens now is social media is now showing graphic footage so kids are becoming even more numb to this stuff. when I first saw this story the sad truth is I wasn't shocked or sad just numb to it so for the new generation it must be even worse. us older lot have let the next generation down because we have hidden away from all our trauma and also parents know when their kids are being unruly and still ignore it or blame everyone else for it no one from ends take any responsibility and accountability just stay blaming government, music and movies. even in this episode its everyone looking for someone to blame!

Poet feels entitled to degrade their status as Jamaicans because he’s black and they aren’t. Black people are no more “from” Jamaica than the Chinese. Black people were taken there as slaves and the Chinese went there as indentured labourers.
Poet hasn’t spent enough time in Jamaica to tell anybody to get up and leave “his country.” When he goes there, he’s the visitor, not them.
