Although Enigma was perhaps singularly responsible for boosting interest in Gregorian chant music worldwide, there was a price to pay-literally. In August of 1991 Munich-based choir Kapelle Antiqua demanded a written apology in addition to financial compensation when the choir, according to Ellie Weinert in Billboard, “recognized its recordings of Gregorian choral works on Enigma tracks. The group sued for damages, claiming Cretu had infringed upon its ’right of personality’ by distorting the records sampled on the ’Sadeness Part I’ and ’Mea Culpa’ album tracks and singles.” Cretu and Virgin Germany agreed to pay compensation for samples used on MCMXC a.D.and settled out of court with Polydor and BMG/Ariola, which represented the German choir, for an undisclosed sum. In the end Virgin acquired authorization for the retrospective use of the Polydor and BMG/Ariola masters.
Cretu’s production is the standard by which I compare all other artist’s albums. The quality of the Enigma catalogue are consistently clear, forward, innovative, and inspirational. Each track is confident, original, yet carries the Cretu signature. There’s no one else like him.
Michael Cretu is a legend, and to us he is such a great inspiration. We have huge respect for all his work, but our personal favourites are everything with Sandra and Michael Cretu as solo artist, so pretty much everything in the 80's 🙂

This is the despair of being disappointed in humanity; of watching it go insane and being unable to do anything about the destruction of forests, oceans, and this beautiful world which inspired the artist in him. Nope, we don't see it! And he doesn't, i am giving you a tip: he was born in Romania, lived there for 17 years, moved to Germany, had big success but also it seems gives a lot of importance to English/classical education, without being against immigration as he said, of one is coming to a country he must adapt. So stop seeing progressive ideology in everyone!
Wow fascinating man! I love how he doesn't choose one answer. He knows the importance of the best of both worlds. Knowing his background now and how he combines different styles of music and influences. That really explains why i love music with different genres/styles in my music. My father introduced me to this album (The cross of changes) when I was 7 years old and i have never let go. It was really a musical marker to me.

Many a times, what you are offering to the people may not be during an appropriate time, hence acceptability will be low. It's sad cos time is one thing that one doesn't have control over. Imagine having a great thing to share with people and time not being on your side.

Mă bucur să aflu că el este român cu toate că numele la dat de gol numele dar doar după încă câteva căutări mai amănunțite să aflu că el este fondatorul grupului atât cât și compozitorul și cel ce lansează piesele, sunt plăcut uimit, am descoperit grupul ăsta acum un an sau doi. Totul a pornit după ce am descoperit o piesă pe nume "Principles Of Lust", la acea vreme aflasem doar instrumentalul, iar apoi cu ajutorul Shazamului am dat de piesa la care automat am aflat de Enigma, și de piesele "Rivers Of Belief" și "Return To Innocence", și tocmai ieri de "Sadness" la radio după ce eram în drum spre casa era ora 9:11 seara pe autostradă după ce băusem pe plajă la terasă împreună cu familia la apus, atmosfera era frumoasa în contrast cu apusul portocaliu, arzător precum un foc. A fost frumos. Și atunci să aflu de piesa acea de care tata să spună că el știa deja de formația asta de ceva vreme. Dar încă odată sunt mândru de el ca și de Gheorghe Zamfir!
