Thanks for the memories. I was 3 when Dolphins came into being. But dad prepared us well. In 72 my friends an I rode our bikes from Carol City to watch practice @ Biscayne College. I was hooked.
@Scott Martin Probably wouldnt have made a diff, but the fins got he short end of the stick having to play the 49ers in Palo Alto. But to be fair, many a super bowl have been played in South Florida.
@@mm-gl7sz yes I totally agree I was at those playoffs games vs the dreaded Buffalo Bills in the 90s, they were definitely a thorn in the dolphins side at that time 🤔
My only game I saw live as a Dolphin fan(6th grade). My friend's grandpa had season tickets for RFK stadium. Whenever Miami scored they would put "miami dolphins touchdown" in all lowercase at the very bottom of the Jumbotron, lol. I remember saying before the game that I doubted Marino was any good and they should keep Woodley as the starter, hahaha...
I wasn't at this game but I was at the last preseason game the week before...it was in Tampa (I lived in Orlando and drove over for the game) and Marino hadn't yet played in preseason due to an injured finger (thumb I believe) but Shula said he'd play him in the last preseason game to get him some work...at the time the Bucs had a pretty ferocious defense and they were blitzing Marino like crazy....for the Bucs it was like their super bowl to beat the glamor Florida team...anyway Dan took a couple big hits from Hugh Green and Shula pulled Danny pretty quickly...I watched Dan warm up before the game and he looked tremendous to me but didn't show much in the game, as I said above the Bucs really came after him and Shula pulled him pretty quickly, so I was kinda surprised Danny came out of the shoot so fast against the redskins. I do remember after the game Coach Gibbs was a bit stunned and said "we thought we had a pretty good secondary, but we hadn't seen Danny Marino".
Redskins were ranked #7 in passing defense in 1982, the year of the Super Bowl. They lost a couple of key players in 1983. Of course we could play the "what would have happened" game for infinity.
After this game Joe Gibbs said...We thought we had a pretty good pass defense and we thought we had a pretty good secondary and we thought we had a pretty good plan, but that was before we saw Dan Marino.

Imagine the Yr Pitts lost to Dallas in SB, Ud had Marino Vs. Aikman..(they Almost Won With Neil O’Donnell..I Still dont Know who he was throwing too this day besides Larry Brown..) 2:58 that old style kicking. You would think it would have been replaced by soccer style by now, but it was still around, I saw it on a college game in 90
I always thought the Dolphins wasted Dan Marino career because they didn't build around Marino far as building a solid defense and a solid running game with a guy like Dan Marino you suppose to have at least 3 super bowls rings Marino had one hell of a release don shula should be a shame of himself!!!!
Shula was too loyal to DC Olivadotti, the worst DC in the NFL. So Shula does deserve lots of blame despite his legendary career. Plus you are right, no running game.
This ass whooping was payback for the SB loss to Washington in 1983, with Woodley at QB. It's ironic that Marino set a then NFL record of 48 TDs (5 that day) in the 1984 season, but lost in his only SB appearance to Montana & SF. They lost for the same reason they did in their previous SB, lack of a good defense, especially their inability to stop the run. The Miami Killer B defense was a joke and they got badly exposed in 2 SB losses.
That last SB of Arnsparer was ranked - 2 - 1 , no joke , they just got pushed around by bigger Offensive lines in both games and they had no breakaway rusher.
He did have to (win anything after '73). Everything he won -to include the undefeated season- is more than you, (whatever joke team you root for) and 10x your life's accomplishments will ever come remotely close to ever achieving.

One of the most memorable opening days for the Dolphins I can ever remember. I'll never forget that 1984 season. Was an incredible year.

Such great memories l we were a very good team and always relevant with Shula and Marino .
Marino, Clayton, Duper... Those were the years!!! Each year you had the feeling this may be the year...
Until the early to mid 90s when you knew you had to play Buffalo at some point in the playoffs

Love these classic aqua blue Dolphin Jerseys.
I was 8 years old when I watched this game. I’ve been a Dolphin’s fan ever since.
I was 8 years old too and have been a fan ever since!
John Riggins n Dan Marino two of the all time greats.
Huge statement by Miami to go up to DC on opening day and win in such a convincing fashion.
Shula once said of Jensen...He could play any position on the field, other than lineman, and he wouldn't embarrass the team.
Aka Crash

So many HOF greats! Fantastic era of football. As I read a story about two rookies currently (2020) in jail for armed robbery.

Redskins fan but Danny Boy won't no joke
Dolphins fan but that damn "Diesel"John Riggins wasn't a joke
This is what would have happened. If Miami had a Qb in superbowl XVII.
Fredeberto Escalante doubt it as the Marks brothers weren’t in Miami yet either .

Yeah! Just think, if Marino had a decent running game and a more aggressive defense like the 49ers did...
I just wish it wasn't a.m. that they recorded the dolphins announcers you can just hear the lightning in the background which is normal
