Powerband also, the old V12 would be peaky but this new one has a much wider and more responsive powerband, peak power figures only tell a little part of the story.
+Car Nut I don't remember anyone saying the v12 TDI was peaky. I don't think it will hold the power better than this v8 simply because it has alot newer technology. if they worked on the v12 now it would make more use out of the 738ft lbs of torque
***** A redevelopment of that engine with the same new tech as this V8 would be sick, probably would make 800lbft below 1500rpm. Save that motor for the RSQ7
Quite a lovely review, Matt really stepped up his game because I definitely wasn't the biggest fan of him at first. I like his reviews now, good job! SQ7 is straight up highway battle tank. IT'S HUGE!
+leonardimas1 I see your point and I agree. I'm not a fan of these monsters either (especially the whole SUV segment). There are people who can afford these cars and are willing to spend that amount of money. We shouldn't hate them. If they didn't exists, streets would be full of ordinary cars and nobody would be genuinely excited about car industry. I have a Golf hatchback and it's just the right car for me right now. :)
Gearbox on this is probably the smoothest around plus its got that amazing diesel engine and if I'm not mistaken the bentayga runs on the same platform for three times as much money. so the answer to the question..should you buy this vehicle? ..is YES YES YES.
Nice review. I know what you mean about the lack of steering engagement; I had an RS5, great car but felt heavy, and there was a lack of engagement in the steering department
They might actually make one for some markets where diesels aren't so popular. Like the SQ5 in the UK gets a V6 TDI, whereas in some countries the SQ5 comes with a 3.0 supercharged V6 from current generation S5/previous gen S4
***** most, but not all. For example, the SQ5 for the Russian market has a V6 TFSI engine (sorry - its different to the one in S5, I was wrong). So they might make a petrol version of the SQ7 as well, with 4.0 V8, but that will not come to most European markets
+abhishek jha (tobeornottobe) it has separate systems for the normal electronics and starter motor, and the electric dampers and turbo system. So i would think that should not be a problem.
An impressive tech' showcase. But in the current climate it'd have to be a 2nd hand buy - what with diesel now Satan's No.1 tipple. .. I lied. Keep up the excellent work (writing and driving) Matt. And don't be afraid to say that a S/C v8 Range Rover sport answers every question asked of it.
+RelaxB Me too. Drove X6M on autobahn two weeks ago, hit (limited) 266kmh (indicated) and there was some steam still left in it. Rock solid at those speeds. What a ridiculous machine! Took it to some back roads and it was a blast - great gearbox, monster performance, no body roll (which is a feat of its own).
If sure into SUV's fine, but quite honestly they are usually driven by Richard's who think just because it cost a lot that they can drive how they like.!🤔
Like all audi's (except the R8) this audi is not meant for drivers. Steering in Audi's I have driven (A3, A4, A6, Q7) is so vague and soft (not connected with wheels at all). And why buy a 71K SUV which weighs 2300kg when you can buy something fun to drive which weighs half and costs less than half.
Why do you want to kill Tesla? What's wrong with both gas/diesel engines, and electric motor cars coexisting? Can't deal with different people, I mean cars, existing at the same time, on the same roads? Too narrow minded?
I like the concept but I dislike the reference to autonomous cars. The way cars are going there will be no one left with any driving skill or common sense by the next generation. Quiet sad really.
Why do you guys not use metric? Your speed limits are in Mph I get that but your country uses metric and so does the rest of the world. You have an international audience so why not kilowatts or newton metres?
A heavy ass boat with a lifeless steering. Audi does it again. The quality feel of that thing must be excellent though. Matt should only focus on Skoda Octavia 1.6l reviews. Sounds like a man with no personality.
boring, basically the same like bentayga, touareg, cayenne, possibly urus, not that i have one to compare, but possibly some parts will be shared across the VW group so yeah nothing special about it. in my opinion.
The new Q7 genuinely looks awful - A6 on bigger wheels with deeper bumper look... :/. Electric hmm, something else to go wrong as well. Previous Q7 was bad enough in the reliability stakes. Imagine what it'd be like with the 4.0 V8 from the S6 though!
+Adrian-Cosmin Ciofalca some ppl like SUV's nothing wrong with that. For me the biggest advantage is the extra space inside and the driving positon (I'm 1.90m tall and driving a sedan is torture for me :( and I'm not even that tall)
+Blaze 125 (blaz3r125) In the States, we don't get the A6 Avant. Then again we also don't really do diesel either. But like Turtle said, some people need the extra room. Some people like going camping without having to haul a trailer. This also has some extra seats too, bu that's really all I've got
Diesel isn't always seen as a performance choice, but this is the second Q7 generation where Audi has impressed with a performance diesel variant!
Its also very impressive, that this car is about 1 second faster to 100kph (62mph) with 2 liters less and 65hp less than the predecessor.
Audi continues to raise the bar and be the benchmark for others to follow. I would absolutely love to own this SUV,
seems everyone forgot about the last q7 with a 6 litre v12 twin turbo diesel
+Birmingham racing This new one is quicker.
+Car Nut that's true but that's down to low weight imagine the old v12 in this that would be a real monster

Quite a lovely review, Matt really stepped up his game because I definitely wasn't the biggest fan of him at first. I like his reviews now, good job! SQ7 is straight up highway battle tank. IT'S HUGE!
+Martin Cerman I agree, quite a fine review by him, which was not always the case imo.
Lovely review.
SQ7 is an amazing car for family road trips. Probably the best one for its money I'd say.
"Audi McAudiface"
Sick reference bro
The electric turbo technology sounds like something that should be in the R8
I'm not a fan of Audi's wheel designs, but these 22inchers are sick....love them
and it's coming to the US! yay
Sq7 is coming to US?!
Great review as always... but numb steering? Think you've been at the hotel minibar.
i want it quite badly
What would you do to get it?
Just preordered the Audi sq7 for £95k 👀
You wuz robbed!
I hate suv-s but this is something else,Engine is "masterpiece".
Imagine audi s6 with this engine.
I am not sure it will get it but the Panamera has it already.
Who is this guy I've seen some of his other videos, I just like his understated straight shooter style
Some people find Audi hard to drive, I feel not so. I drive an Audi s7 and sq5 before. I feel like it is more casual and for daily.
that's a good video with a great video quality. keep it up like that and forget the crap you put on this channel the last months
Id love to see this electric compressor sheeit on audis petrol engines. The 4.0t would be sick
Another great review by one of the World's best Motoring Journalists
Gearbox on this is probably the smoothest around plus its got that amazing diesel engine and if I'm not mistaken the bentayga runs on the same platform for three times as much money. so the answer to the question..should you buy this vehicle? ..is YES YES YES.
The snails at the beginning make this a good video.
Nice review. I know what you mean about the lack of steering engagement; I had an RS5, great car but felt heavy, and there was a lack of engagement in the steering department
they should've kept working on the v12 tdi from the previous gen q7.would be a beast with modern technology
I don't like the look of the Q3 and Q5 but the Q7 looks great!
love the drone stuff at the end..
Your getting better!
Brilliant engineering there; when it trickles down that could be great
really nice SUV.
Those are wonderful landscapes
Enjoy your review well done!
I want. And those wheels are AMAZING
Who the Hell would anyone buy a SUV over £70k when you can have this beast!
+Ethan Bradberry You mean when you can have this Audi SUV for 70k? :D
mastadriver yes!!
+Ethan Bradberry The perfect SUV to kidnap people
damefaso yes lmao!
nicely shot
I might be oldschool but I would like a 4,0 V8 TFSI version too!
They might actually make one for some markets where diesels aren't so popular. Like the SQ5 in the UK gets a V6 TDI, whereas in some countries the SQ5 comes with a 3.0 supercharged V6 from current generation S5/previous gen S4
Dmitry L I´m pretty sure that most SQ5 are diesel´s? :)
***** most, but not all. For example, the SQ5 for the Russian market has a V6 TFSI engine (sorry - its different to the one in S5, I was wrong).
So they might make a petrol version of the SQ7 as well, with 4.0 V8, but that will not come to most European markets
Dmitry L You learn something new everyday, huh? :p
***** true that is :)
I'm curious. is it possible for the auto to be available in the usa
THANK GOODNESS FOR CC.
Okay this might be a bit silly, but can you jump start the battery when its dead? Sticker suggests no.
+abhishek jha (tobeornottobe) it has separate systems for the normal electronics and starter motor, and the electric dampers and turbo system. So i would think that should not be a problem.
okay. Well anyway it is a complex car and being stranded because of your battery is never good.
I feel uninspired by the design, curious what this electric turbo tech would possibly look like in the next gen cayenne .. wait n see!
A good version of the Q7. Too much tech in it reducing traditional driver involvement. I'd like to see a V12 TDI version too.
What's the background music ?
whats the name of that beat at the end?
Where is the location?
Nice, still would have a X5M or X6M
+RelaxB Me too. Drove X6M on autobahn two weeks ago, hit (limited) 266kmh (indicated) and there was some steam still left in it. Rock solid at those speeds. What a ridiculous machine! Took it to some back roads and it was a blast - great gearbox, monster performance, no body roll (which is a feat of its own).
Wonder if this engine meets emission norms without the use of cheat software ...
ABT sur la SQ7 la transformé bien
sick car
And of course Audi does have a 500 HP, 1000 NM (738 lb-ft) V12. Probably not yet introduced in the new Q7 ...
Expect to get tailgated by one on a road near you soon.
I'll wait for the SQ5 next year the Q7 in my view is too big.
My Hero - the end. So clean.
whoa those roads are so narrow to proper maintain the cars position in the lane even in the turns. lol
If sure into SUV's fine, but quite honestly they are usually driven by Richard's who think just because it cost a lot that they can drive how they like.!🤔
Sounds awesome for a diesel engine
Like all audi's (except the R8) this audi is not meant for drivers. Steering in Audi's I have driven (A3, A4, A6, Q7) is so vague and soft (not connected with wheels at all). And why buy a 71K SUV which weighs 2300kg when you can buy something fun to drive which weighs half and costs less than half.
German car are the best in the world, they produce best car in the world,,,,BMW,AUDI,VOLKSWAGEN,MERCEDES BENZ,PORCHE, ETC.
Oh jeeeezzzze that thick british accent and swallowing the voyals!!!
Please take the corners in your own lane! (01:23)
he hardly can do that...those roads are so narrow lol. i said the same thing to myself
Best SUV on the planet
I think that we will be okay! This type of technology will kill the tesla bs. This sounds really cool. For $110k this will be a pretty good deal.
+Tim Tursonoff it really won't
Why do you want to kill Tesla? What's wrong with both gas/diesel engines, and electric motor cars coexisting? Can't deal with different people, I mean cars, existing at the same time, on the same roads? Too narrow minded?
So it's an electric turbo right?
+S Miller Yeah, electric supercharger/compressor
Its not a turbo. Turbos are defined as exhaust gas driven, superchargers are engine driven. It is an electric compressor.
This car has the ground clearance of a bike. It's not SUV anymore
I like the concept but I dislike the reference to autonomous cars. The way cars are going there will be no one left with any driving skill or common sense by the next generation. Quiet sad really.
How can you not recommend buying a ‘very significant car’ ?
Is this emitting up to 10 times more pollution than it should?
5,000 rmp rev limit!?
Because it's a diesel.
As good as this car unquestionably is, I cant get over the fact it looks boring as fuck estate. RS6 for similar price any day
+Komor Uddin if the s6 sedan came with this engine
+Vlad Mitrofan No please just no
+Komor Uddin did u see it in real? because i thought the same till i saw it on the road.. stunning car
I've seen an RS6 and a Q7 in real life. They don't look similar. The Q7 S-line doesn't look like a wagon like it does in photos or videos.
+Chris Sorreda you're right they don't look similar, the RS6 looks way better. The Q7 does have a very smart interior though i give it that..
Not once did he demonstrate the power
This new diesel might end up in the new panamera.
Would still rather have an old Bronco or something. New cars are just too boring
That dash board is straight out of an A4...but that's none of my business..
Why do you guys not use metric? Your speed limits are in Mph I get that but your country uses metric and so does the rest of the world. You have an international audience so why not kilowatts or newton metres?
Wait..... the price is in pounds but he´s driving on the right side... wot?
If someone wanted a driver's car, it wouldn't be this nor a Cayenne or any other SUV.
Put that engine in a A3 or something!
Kanta...
A heavy ass boat with a lifeless steering. Audi does it again. The quality feel of that thing must be excellent though.
Matt should only focus on Skoda Octavia 1.6l reviews. Sounds like a man with no personality.
fuck this technology on an car like this !!! use it on a 2.0l engine !!!
This car weights 2,7 times my car weight.
Does anyone else see a Bentayga figure in this SQ7?
+Opticalism Because Bentayga basically is an ultra Q7 :)
+Maciek Kamiński ultra only on price, this has much more tech that the ugly bentley doesn t
+Maciek Kamiński They share the same chassis? I didn't know that, thanks.
Opticalism
bentley uses Volkswagen family chassis, engines etc. the next bentley continental will use the incoming panamera Porsche made platform.
boring, basically the same like bentayga, touareg, cayenne, possibly urus, not that i have one to compare, but possibly some parts will be shared across the VW group so yeah nothing special about it. in my opinion.
+Rayaan Shaikh this is not the bentayga, now thats a real ugly suv
its OK , BUT , would rather buy X5 M50d because its a BMW
So much interesting tech in such a boring car.
Tja. Deutsche Autos halt :D
I really don't see the appeal of these cars, they seem pointless to me.
Exactly, why not buy an A6 avant (maybe even allroad) and spear some money
+Adrian-Cosmin Ciofalca some ppl like SUV's nothing wrong with that. For me the biggest advantage is the extra space inside and the driving positon (I'm 1.90m tall and driving a sedan is torture for me :( and I'm not even that tall)
+Blaze 125 (blaz3r125) In the States, we don't get the A6 Avant. Then again we also don't really do diesel either. But like Turtle said, some people need the extra room. Some people like going camping without having to haul a trailer. This also has some extra seats too, bu that's really all I've got
+4amTurtle I'm 1.96m and drive a sedan audi a6 no problem, haven't got any problems with spasing till once i sat back in a mercedes cls.
+Blaze 125 (blaz3r125) It's because you're naive
That has got to be the most boring looking SUV on the market.
Great engine, still looks like crap and handles like the USS Ronald Reagan
All cars will have lithium ions in them soon. And there is a 1 Trillion Dollar Lithium ion mine in Afghanistan. War on terror... my arse!
I'd take the Tesla model X and day thank you.
What's the background music ?
