Jimin's voice craked at the 'release' part but it was great. However I liked Hai's Version more since hers had different style of singing it. It was amazing overall.
When they say Jimin or Hayi sings better, it's about the song they choose too! and for your guys' information... The mission for the final stage is choosing the song your rival sings before in the program, so that's why Hayi chooses Rolling in the deep while Jimin chooses Mercy. The top of rivals' song lists they think they wanna try to be better to show different style, that's all! or another meaning is trying to make it work with your rival's song style and it's not easy, I'm proud of them both!
As a performer she won over lee ha yi but in terms of talent lee ha yi has a rare soulful voice that park ji min doesn't have. If I was a judge though I would still choose park ji min because she honestly performed better. But I wouldn't choose her as a trainee because there's not really much u can work from her voice. Yes her voice is good but lee ha yi has variety that not a lot of people have. This is especially true in kpop where it's highly competitive. You need the uniqueness to stand out.
I think this song suits more to Hayi because her voice is hoarse, the same as Dufy (I think is her name) who sing the real song. JiMi have a wonderful voice, she is like Ailee... but this version might sound clear and have a good english pronunciation, but the versions of Hayi it was like the real duffy singing her own song.
honestly lee hayi does have that unique soulful voice. but you have to remember that this was a competition. they are judged on their singing ability. how well they control their voice and their emotion into the song. sure lee hayi has more unique style but ji min definitely wins when it comes to competition where they are judged on their singing. thats why she won this competition but lee hayi won in the real world selling albums. get it? so i need people to stop saying lee hayi shouldve won
it's just my opinion. I like Jimin, too. Jimin sang professionally, it made me think of a real singers. Hayi sang naturally, we can't predict how she will do with the next song. Expression on her face is very attractive. But Jimin brings us the cheerful and comfortable. I love their voices and I think both of them are winners ^___^
when JYP says that, he means it as the biggest compliment - because he knows that the most difficult thing for singers is to let go and be free and and sing "without trying too hard".. :)
i think one main reason why people might like JiMin's version is because her voice seems clearer and because her english pronunciation is more accurate. I love both!
I love Hayi's 'releaseeeeeeee~~~ me' so much more, this song is for Hayi s voice. But i have to admit Jimin is really good at absorbing the song and sing it in HER style. You can tell by the her singing technique. Interesting switch song game.
once again, she sang it in a different style. i like how they made the top 2 sing each other's top sung songs. its able to show judges and the audience their abilities. park ji min's rendition showed off her powerful vocals, while lee ha yi showed off her soulful voice. i'm so happy that park ji min won!! so happy for her. now...time for her to chose and agency :)
It's because the Hayi's soulful rarity/differenciation as a Korean. Jimin is a good singer but there are many similar voice in Korea/Orient. (1) Jimin : voice-style (Orient/White) (2) Hayi : voice-style (Hispanic/black) And Jimin's English is not common as a Korean because she stuied in Thai(I think perhaps in International school)
the difference between hayi's and jimin's versions are that hayi makes this song sound like a track on an R&B CD, while Jimin's version sounds more bar lounge casual esque
Yes, there are a lot of soulful singers out there and you said you can name about 30. How many of them are Korean or even Asian? You probably can't even name 5 without doing a hell of a lot of research about the history Korean and Asian singers. This is what makes Lee Hi special. She has a very soulful, deep voice at the age of 16/17 and her voice will develop as she ages. The thing that makes her extra special is that she is a KOREAN, ASIAN soulful singer who appeals to the mainstream market.
It's because Park JiMin's performance was a special stage for the one of the final episodes whereas HaYi sang Mercy during the round that decided the Top 10, many episodes ago. Lee HaYi sang Rolling In The Deep in this episode too.
Im glad that Park Ji Min won cos when she sings, her english accent is too good but when Ha Yi sings her english words are abit flawed and its like she says the words in a weird way
Sounds like a perfect elevator music. I adore JM but this song I'm not digging that much. But she sounds a~ ma~zing when she sang "over the rainbow". God I love that song.
Jimin was a bit pitchy in this performance and does anyone else think the arrangement of the song was a bit messy? It didn't flow too well in my ears :/ But her vocals are definitely amazing :)
Both version is good! Lee Hayi's voice fit more with this song. Jin Min's version it great as well. Please stop comparing the both of them. They have their own type style.
Yeah she signed under JYP. I love how she is confident on stage and she definatley had fun up there on stage. Look at how all the jugde r moving to her beat. She has THEM under a spell instead.
Ji min indiscutiblemente canta increible y fue una muy buena presentacion! te deja con la boca abierta pero.. la version de Ha Yi hace que se te paren los pelitoooss! xD su voz es muyy bekdfuherfn! :D
I though Jimin would be able to hit the higher notes without wavering, but she was straining through the last two notes. Maybe she wasn't feeling well. Overall, I love this performance!
actually i would disagree with you. hayi's technique does not fall behind jimin at all first of all - hayi was pitch perfect whereas jimin was unstable in a few spots in this performance. at the same time i would not say that hayi's voice is necessarily more attractive than jimin's voice - it would really depend on the mood i was in, as to which voice i enjoy more, but they both have attractive voices and strong technique already.
It's not that she did a bad job. This song doesn't suit her voice. It suits Hayi's better. Jimin is stronger with cleaner vocal with high notes. Hayi's stronger with deeper mid and low notes. Different strength.
i see it as this. when i want a live performance. ill see jimin. when i want recording i want hayi. true jimin has a good voice, it is indeed plain, but her stage manner is excellent, and keeps me watching. hayi has a voice color that i could listen to over and over again. but on stage, she just still seems bored, i might as well just close my eyes and listen. this is kpop star, its a combo of both visual and audio. jimin's got both. while hayi excels more than jimin in just voice.
I agree it's not her best performance since soul isn't her forte, but lol @ Lee Hi fans flocking to the one bad video to hate on Jimin. Lee Hi's voice is fantastic and unique (in Korea), but she's got nothing on Jimin's technical skill. At the moment Lee Hi can't even come close to being able to belt like Jimin can. Who knows where they'll be in a couple years, but Jimin definitely deserved to win Kpopstar. If you don't think Jimin can pull off R&B, listen to her performance of Irreplaceable.
Why people think they have to sing like original, i can say this is new version of Mercy, it's different. unique and change my taste to love this version more than original. don't compare to Lee Hyyi cause this version is unique and better than others who sing like original. MAKE SOMETHING DIFFERENT !!!
i love this performance! so lively!~ but unfortunately this isn't a performance i'd like to watch over and over again like i would with Lee Ha Yi's version. i feel like the entire performance overall overpowered the meaning of the song...but of course for those who might misunderstand, this is my personal opinion. ;)
looks like JYP has his favorite at the get go... hehe...jimin was good, no doubt about that.... but i like hayi's version..maybe because i like the soulful bluesy version... and here in our country we get a lot of voices like that of jimin's...so maybe that's why my ears are enjoying hayi more than jimin...
Jimin's voice is so perfect and professional, it makes the listener feel comfortable. But Jimin's voice is not special. Lee Hayi's technique maybe unstable, but her voice is so unique. It makes the listener feel new and fascinated by her charming. Hayi made the song so different from the original. Jimin mainly show her techniques, so her songs are not attractive than Hayi ^__^
"Soulful", lower voices are actually relatively more common. Off the top of my head, baek yerin and Jessica Sanchez have similar vocal makeups. I could name another 30 singers easily. Actually, just listen to any great gospel choir. Lower, "soulful" voices are really not that unique, guys. A belter who nails very high notes, on the other hand, is less common. Jimin's voice is also more dynamic because it can be either soft/soothing or strong/powerful at times -- especially for high notes.
Even though I loved Lee Hayi, I'm truly happy she won! btw, Has she decided already which company to go to? please tell me is YG because I want her to shine!!!! (just in case I'm a JYP/SM artist lover, but I know she will shine there xD)
My point was, it just seemed wrong of Ji Min and SBS to sell her image as a frightened, pressured little girl we should feel sorry for, when in fact she is very privileged and should be grateful, and many would kill to be in her place. As for the part about the age difference, I was referring to SBS's recurring comments on oh how young the youngest was! and how tortured she was! and oh my, did we mention how young she was? - when in fact her rival isn't much older than her.
I'm sorry but this comment is so ignorant that I don't even know where to begin. Two of the most popular R&B female singers today, rihanna and beyonce, have vocal makeups closer to jimin's than to hayi's, Hayi also sounds like a dying sheep when she's trying to hit the high notes in her version (at 1:38).
yeah... i think songs like this are more perfect for HaYi.... sad ballads are for JiMin!! both are sooo fuckin' talented but as usual, everyone has their strength! and for "merci" is MOST incredible in Hayi's voice and "rolling in a deep" is sooo soo nice in JiMin's voice!! both of them are stars, talented ppl
Jimin's voice craked at the 'release' part but it was great. However I liked Hai's Version more since hers had different style of singing it. It was amazing overall.
진짜 이노래할때 너무신나서 나도 모르는사이에 리듬타고잇더라ㅋㅋ진짜 이하이가불럿던거 하나도 생각안나더라...잘햇어요!
은둔할때 힘이 됐던 곡!!!
well in kpop world its rare, and honestly there is no one like lee hi with soulful voice that is famous in kpop
Look how she dominates the stage O.o truly awesome talent!
When they say Jimin or Hayi sings better, it's about the song they choose too! and for your guys' information... The mission for the final stage is choosing the song your rival sings before in the program, so that's why Hayi chooses Rolling in the deep while Jimin chooses Mercy. You got it right cos Park is great performer while Lee Hi has much great soul in her voice
She has the voice, stage presence, and charisma :)

자신감넘치는모습이너무예쁘다~
보는이들까지기분좋게만드는해피바이러스!!
JYP’s reaction is a bit too much? Haha. Jimin’s voice is wonderful!!
it's just my opinion.
Don´t know why there´s people not liking this version ! I´m loving it so much !! ♥
In this case, Park JiMin & Lee Hayi switched songs, I liked Lee Hayi's version of Rolling In the Deep & Park JiMin's version of Mercy.
stop comparing both of them. they are great.. and i think jimin is still the best.. i love jimin.. always jimin..
I love Park ji mins expression like JYP always says be an actress first XD
i think one main reason why people might like JiMin's version is because her voice seems clearer and because her english pronunciation is more accurate. I love both!
I think from the very beginning JYP like this girl very much .. look at him everytime she sings ..
I love Hayi's 'releaseeeeeeee~~~ me' so much more, this song is for Hayi
s voice. But i have to admit Jimin is really good at absorbing the song and sing it in HER style. You can tell by the her singing technique. Interesting switch song game.

I agree! and her voice so softer, but strong at the same time, i think thats why she won.. but i love both too!
crush on the expression on her face when she singing. cute!
It's because the Hayi's soulful rarity/differenciation as a Korean.

the difference between hayi's and jimin's versions are that hayi makes this song sound like a track on an R&B CD, while Jimin's version sounds more bar lounge casual esque
her english pronunciation is near perfect. im impressed
Yes, there are a lot of soulful singers out there and you said you can name about 30. How many of them are Korean or even Asian? the judges looked so happy.. JYP
i remember ye eun in k-pop star contestants' choices of songs.. killing me softly then mercy..
Im glad that Park Ji Min won cos when she sings, her english accent is too good but when Ha Yi sings her english words are abit flawed and its like she says the words in a weird way
Jimin's so good. Up to you for choose the best but don't compare Hayi and Jimin. Thay just show their own voice.
Finally you won Jimin
Love both of Jimin's and Hayi version.
So nostalgic! She still the best
Sounds like a perfect elevator music. I adore JM but this song I'm not digging that much. But she sounds a~ ma~zing when she sang "over the rainbow". God I love that song.

Ji Min have a great hight notes ...but I love Lee Ha Yi version with a soul blues voice....
Yeah she signed under JYP.
I love how she is confident on stage and she definatley had fun up there on stage.
Look at how all the jugde r moving to her beat.
She has THEM under a spell instead.
I really want JiMin get 1st place...
I watched Kpop star for her
This was not her best performance, however, her range is outstanding. Being able to sing to many genres is impressive.
Amazing Voice!!!
the song's not in her style but she did it so well, luv it!
Her voice is so pleasant to listen to
Lee Hi should have just sang her version of this or like this also on their Finals. She sings this really great.
omg jyp looks like a little boy enjoying himself:D SO CUTE^^
Ji min indiscutiblemente canta increible y fue una muy buena presentacion! te deja con la boca abierta pero.. la version de Ha Yi hace que se te paren los pelitoooss! xD su voz es muyy bekdfuherfn! :D
I though Jimin would be able to hit the higher notes without wavering, but she was straining through the last two notes. Maybe she wasn't feeling well. Overall, I love this performance!
Good and cute~~~~~~~~~~~
I do like this new version♥
GO, JIMIN
I LOVE her voice

Don't compare her to another person, they have their own way.
Jimin was great but I think Hayi's version of Mercy was the best performance throughout all the performances in this audition.
love you ji min
I totally agree with you even though I'm Lee Hayi's fan and I prefer her style and voice! =)
Anyone still watching on 2019?
park jimin won!!! ^_^
i like Park Ji Min but i love Lee Ha Yi's version of Mercy :)
Hey It's another style, I love this one too
It's not that she did a bad job. This song doesn't suit her voice. It suits Hayi's better. Jimin is stronger with cleaner vocal with high notes. Hayi's stronger with deeper mid and low notes. Different strength.
This is so Park Jin Young type of music. Jazz.
i see it as this. when i want a live performance. ill see jimin. when i want recording i want hayi. true jimin has a good voice, it is indeed plain, but her stage manner is excellent, and keeps me watching. hayi has a voice color that i could listen to over and over again. but on stage, she just still seems bored, i might as well just close my eyes and listen. this is kpop star, its a combo of both visual and audio. jimin's got both. while hayi excels more than jimin in just voice.
She is number1
She did a good job :) Even though the song wasn't the best match to her voice

what a joyful performance... amazing... a truly well deserved win!!
total daebak!!
she debuted in a group called 15&, their debut song is called I DREAM
looks like JYP has his favorite at the get go... hehe...jimin was good, no doubt about that.... but i like hayi's version..maybe because i like the soulful bluesy version... and here in our country we get a lot of voices like that of jimin's...so maybe that's why my ears are enjoying hayi more than jimin...

perhaps because of their style for this song. jimin's ver is more hyped up
omg shes amazing!!!
why is her english is sooo good?
OMG La amee ♥.♥
ji min
she really minds me of Bommie!
Dancing Queen! =D

Jimin version. is Fantastic for me
well said. well said..

一場非常精彩的對壘
征服了全世界的眼睛
I'm sorry but this comment is so ignorant that I don't even know where to begin. gulsds ivns 이게 원곡 인데요 ㅋㅋ 댄싱퀸 이노래 리메이크했어요. Dancing Queen is a another version mercy.
SOOOOOOOOOO TRUE!
yes she is :)
lee ha yi hat bai nay hay hon
yeah... i think songs like this are more perfect for HaYi.... sad ballads are for JiMin!! both are sooo fuckin' talented but as usual, everyone has their strength! and for "merci" is MOST incredible in Hayi's voice and "rolling in a deep" is sooo soo nice in JiMin's voice!! both of them are stars, talented ppl
Why are there so many English speakers in this show? Is it an international show held in Korea? (:
i love Park Ji Min version more than Lee Hayi did
It's funny 'cause Lee Ha Yi and Park Ji Min don't speak English well but their singing English skill is awesome
