- Ukraine destroyed a radar system belonging to a Russian S-400 air defence complex, worth hundreds of millions of dollars using HIMARS. Kyiv’s men unleashed a barrage of 16 GMLRS rockets from their US-made HIMARS immediately after hearing more were on the way because the House had passed a fresh aid package. And they were able to destroy a valuable radar complex linked to Russia’s most-advanced air defence system. Drone footage shows the rockets striking the radar, at an undisclosed location somewhere on the frontlines. An entire S-400 battery - including both radar, launchers and rockets - costs around $800million. It is the most advanced anti-air system Russia produces, which the Kremlin claims is impenetrable. Ukraine has managed to destroy or damage three such systems in recent weeks, with the help of long-range weaponry. #russia #ukraine #war

So they need air defense for their air defense.....
Actually, that's exactly how that works for strategic air defense complexes such as s-400. Russians are just really bad at it, and HIMARS missiles are too small and too fast of a target for inner-layer air defenses that are supposed to protect the S-400.

@@colin1235421 The Electronic Countermeasures division (Ukraine have them) can determine this since the decoys "usually" don't have complex internals characteristics of transmission or command links etc etc. There are ways to confirm this since visually is very difficult. There are other resources available to them provided by NATO that add to the mix etc. This is general information available.

With the US military aid package signed, the ammo can be shipped quickly from the US NATO forward supply depot in Poland or other neighboring NATO member country.

The weapons the US gives urkraine are specificly only given to prevent them from being used against Moscow, imagine what would happen if the US gave them actually modern long range missiles to fight russias trench warfare.
16 GMLRS rockets to destroy 1 S-400 system? At least Ukrainians have the advantage with the costs of the 16 rockets versus 1 S-400 system. Very impressive though if you need 16 badass rockets launched simultaneously to take that air defense out.
How much does an S-400 cost?
The S-400 has a range of 400 kilometres and can shoot up to 185 kilometres high. A single one costs at around (at least for Turkey) 1.25 billion dollars with the spare missiles and the complete machinery and transport of it.

The problem with ruasian defence is that they can handle only 5 -6 different types of attacks.
Whereas enemy can attack in morw than 10 to 15 ways.
So .. defence for defence systems is also requires.
If you remember how Russias most prestigious warship sunk because it was alone and overconfident and did not have smaller ships to protect it.
The ship got overwhelmed by attack and sucummed to USA intelligence and military equipments of Ukraine.
The moskva sunk because it was in poor condition from a lack of maintenance, its air defense system was infective as a result, only 2 missiles where fired at it.
