While Smith's earlier musical efforts were distinctly pop and R&B, “Transparent Soul” marked a full-fledged shift into pop-punk and rock, genres she'd loved ever since accompanying her mother Jada Pinkett Smith while she was on the road with her metal band Wicked Wisdom.

@@StardustSpiritDragon well to me I meant I just felt like it died down a bit. Didn’t mean like it was completely gone. It definitely wasn’t the same that it was. It was a different vibe. Different music starts being popular or the same bands try to change their sound to keep it interesting or reinvent themselves. Just imo.
Idk why I was initially avoiding this song, thinking that I wouldn't like her take on music in this genre, but biiiiiich WAS THE GENRE. So talented. I won't underestimate her again.
it would be so cool if she did the aftermath of her taking the creature's hand in another music video of another song, like turning it into a little miniseries, that'd be really cool
I remember being 12 when Whip My Hair came out and everyone went nuts over it, myself included. Then we just never heard a whole lot about Willow after that. When Meet Me At Our Spot blew up on TikTok I LOVED it and had to look it up, literally blew my mind when I saw who the vocalist was. She is so incredibly talented and I'm glad she's staying true to herself regardless of all the Hollywood media bs. She rocks the punk style, the septum ring, hair, and the genre altogether. I freaking love her. 🖤
Meet Me At Our Spot is fantastic. Her and dude kill it. I came searching for more of her stuff like that and there just isn't any. Like what happened to her vocals? I had never heard anyone sing like she did in that song. Now she sounds like Avril or Paramore, hints of Gwen Stefani when in No Doubt, etc. Its funny how for someone who is constantly singing about wanting to be her own person and develop her style, she sure does seem to copy these other chicks style.
@Shah Bhuiyan I agree on all your points. She has a good band behind her. If she can incorporate better less cheesy lyrics as mentioned, she'll have no problem making good music. 👌
I get the feeling that actually might be what this song's about; everyone just comparing her to her dad, & only interested in getting close to her 'cos they wanna meet him or want something similar from her (hence why she went so far left from his previous musical style & dropped his last name)
@@Jerry__S she is underrated consider she had a leg up due to her parents. Underrated consider she has been in the industry compared to Olivia Rodriguez with her debut album having 2/3 #1s.

This song is quite reminiscent of the style of the early days of Paramore, Avril Lavgine. After all, it’s quite a journey from Whip My Hair to Transparent Soul.
Low key I thought this was para more when I first heard the song. Went to look for it in paramores playlist but I would’ve never imagine it was wills Smiths daughter.
willow's revival of pop punk is the best thing I've heard since my childhood, I love that it's all coming full circle 🔴 Travis Barker is the goat for providing drums to the new generation, ahhhh this makes me really really happy
I’m 30 and it brings me so much great pride to see young black women embrace all facets of who they are. Growing up in the white suburbs, I grew up listening to Avril, Paramore, Yellowcard and Evanescence but they all lacked one thing: blackness. No lie, I’m in the mood to go to Hot Topic, getting me another arm sleeve, my Harry Potter pins, and my leather accessories. The smith family, although odd in their own way, really raised some revolutionary kids. Jaden with his Just Water and now willow with her music! I’m sensing all of Jada in this and I’m loving the family legacy
This!!!! And I totally agree and feel like this is my story except in Latina and it was the country not suburbs. She is amazing and I love Travis for being present and being like ya this is legit
@@WOLFGANGPANDER Exactly, it is the other way around. The artists are making bank working with him. Not that I am or am not a fan. The dude is a trip and essentially the production or a big part.
I grew up listening to pop punk and other “alt genres” like goth, nu metal, post hardcore, and industrial as well as rap. Awesome to hear that these sounds are being embraced by so many young artist close to my age 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Willow and Jaden are true artistic talents. Their art has no bounderies..they are true to their self. And that is art! Another brilliant work of Art Willow!
Travis is an amazing drummer, and glad to see he is helping the young ones find punk again, that banging pumped up sound that makes your adrenaline corse through your body ,what a rush!!!
I hate Travis bc I feel like he trys to show off too much but in this song I feel like he was just playing instead of showing off which I greatly appreciate
My theory on the video. The party is basically the snake pit, she's admitting that she was basically he worst of of them which is why she can see right through them all. In the entire video she's running from her "higher self" which is why it's represented as a golden person, slowly catching up to her and the ending is like the famous painting of man touching God... I could be reading too deep into the video though
So glad that she’s being herself. As a black girl, it can be hard to do genres like this without being labeled as “trying to be weird,” or shunned from the black community.
It’s a shame, too, there’s so much out there to be consumed. To be judged in to conforming with the “norm” is terrible. I love the alternative culture community for this reason. We all stick together regardless of race or identity.
Is this giving anyone Paramore vibes? #love that she's coming into herself. This type of sound is so fit for her. Love the name too #willow she should make a song called Willow
This is how I depicted the music video. I interpret this song as you can’t run from the truth. No matter how much you want to mask it. No matter how much you want to deny it. It is always there and you can’t run from it. We have all heard “the eyes are the window to the soul” I believe that that symbol showing up was like a symbol of acceptance of the situation.
Honestly as a black girl that loves alt style and music it really means a lot to me to see Willow transform like this I'm her age and I've been a fan since Whip My Hair and I'm here for all the vibes from 21st Century girl to Overthinking it- Wait a Minute and now TransparentSoul her music is so healing and this is a banger.

I’m 28 and I definitely agree with the nostalgia!

Just imo.
Heard this on the radio earlier and was convinced it was paramore
This music sucked back then and it sucks now. 🙄🙄

She killed it. 10/10
Travis in the drums is genius. Everyone knows a great rock band has a killer drummer
@Shah Bhuiyan I agree on all your points. She has a good band behind her. If she can incorporate better less cheesy lyrics as mentioned, she'll have no problem making good music. 👌
Personally she could've had any Pop Punk drummer do this but Travis is an institution so it makes sense
@Shah Bhuiyan clearly you haven’t listened to her EP adore…it literally goes right along with it but of course you wouldn’t know that
Lol the drummer is basically the one making mgk new album hit songs and this too. Travis barker is what makes them that’s why they sound like blink.
It's wild to think that this is Will Smith's daughter. Like, awesomeness just runs in their family i guess.
well, that will make perfect sense when you realize that Jada has her own alt rock/metal band called Wicked Wisdom.

This song is quite reminiscent of the style of the early days of Paramore, Avril Lavgine. After all, it’s quite a journey from Whip My Hair to Transparent Soul.
And taking back Sunday. I'm glad this generation can have what we had.
She was hanging with a lot of rockers through the years, so it's no surprise she was exposed to this type of music.

This ain’t punk, poser. Good song tho….
But you aren't the only person to suggest that there are or were things she's dealing with. I agree with you!
That smbol being drawn in outer space is called the flower of life btw, it has a specific metaphysical relevance.
