Thank you very much for the review 🙂 I did not use it untill now, but the some pics I did, where ok and for the price...very good. The only thing I don't like, is the lenshood which si difficult to put on an easy to lose....... So I fixed it and do not taking of.
Thank you for this excellent and precise review. Would Meike have fixed the aperture problem on the Z Nikon ? Some Sigma lenses have the same problem ...
Thanks for the review, I can understand almost all of the English you are talking, English is not my language, so I challenge to understand almost everyone, but not you, great video, great English and I was hoping for someone to make this review, so thanks, new subs.
The fringing and flaring is controlled under the test conditions but what if when they are not? Bad CA can ruin images, but for $170 USD this is a whopping steal for an 85mm 1.8 this sharp. If you're on an extreme budget or you just need a cheap 85 to shoot some quick portraits and don't want to bring out your 85 1.4 or 1.2, go for the Meike. The sharpness and background blur is good and all your need in that situation.
No it doesn't support FTZ/Z6 with the current firmware. Firmware is available on Meike's website but when I check recently I don't see any new firmware
In real world... Sometimes it's pretty good. But sometimes I see flare/haze when I didn't expect. It's not worse than some older Nikkor lenses like Nikon AF 85 1.4D. but definitely nothing like the new Nikon nano coated lenses...
@@TheRealRichardWong thanks! So, I guess you get what you pay for. Nice to hear that it is not a showstopper. Again, thanks a lot for the detailed review!
@@TheRealRichardWong Hi! So, I bought the lens and I have exactly the same issue which you described in the video. But I found out how to "reset" lens aperture on Nikon Z50 with FTZ adapter. You need to turn the camera on, detach the lens, and attach it back with the camera turned on. Aperture will be returned to the needed value (e.g. 1.8). By the way, have you got any response from Meike? Are they going to fix the issue? Besides this, the lens is great! Thanks for the review!
Hi, I have been watching some of Your videos and appreciate the way that you think and review .... I am not sure what you usually shoot(manufacturer) but I am glad to see the Nikon references .... I am 68 yrs old and have been mainly shooting Nikon since 1969 and still have My original Nikon FTN although I do not shoot film anymore...As a photojournalist in the 60s to early 90s I loved the Nikons. (I have not switched to the mirrorless world yet, I have to be frugal so I have stayed with my trusty D750 and several pieces of Nikon af-s glass..... Thank You for being a nice person, stay Happy and Healthy :) :) :)
Hi John, for photos I am primarily a Nikon shooter, but i do use Panasonic, Leica and also a few brands regularly. Thank you for watching the video glad you enjoyed it
Bought this lens directly from Meike Global in early April 2022. Build quality is alright but the image quality wide open is very, very, poor. Have tried contacting Meike for the last month, trying to return the lens for a refund, and guess what, they don't respond! They had no problem taking my order and charging my cc, but reverse that and they go silent. If you really have to have the lens, buy it through Amazon or Ebay for the obvious ability to return the lens if you are not satisfied. Just don't buy it directly from Meike Global.
Thanks for the review. I have been waiting for one since announced. Autofocus seems really quite loud but it looks not bad otherwise
Thanks for watching! :)
Another informative and fair review!
Glad you liked it!

@@TheRealRichardWong thank you for the response 😊
I guess I'll have to look elsewhere
Thanks, a good run down on the lens. But, is it compatible with Nikon FTZ for Nikon z6? Also, where do I download the new firmware?
No it doesn't support FTZ/Z6 with the current firmware. Firmware is available on Meike's website but when I check recently I don't see any new firmware
@@TheRealRichardWong can you send me the link please. Thanks

😍😍😍
THANK YOU !!! :D
Will it work on film Nikons? Especially the AF.
I would guess yes for the last film Nikon that supports AFS lenses. but i have not tested it myself.
Thanks for the review! Woukd be nice to see that flare outside on the streets in real world conditions. Not sure if it is bad or still acceptable.

Do you know where to find the firmware updates?
from their website i would guess www.mkgrip.com/goods/show-243.html but i'm not aware of any new firmware available yet.
Will it works well with the d7500
It should
Will it auto focus on d5100
Yes it does
Special thanks to Auckland Camera Center for their help! www.aucklandcamera.co.nz
Sir is this lens work with nikon d 5300??
I am not sure sorry.
How does this lens compare to the virtrox 85mm 1.8?
The viltrox AF one for Z?
@@TheRealRichardWong yes sorry for the typo
@@TheRealRichardWong I know you did a review on the viltrox 85mm z mount
The viltrox is better. The Autofocus is smoother, more quiet , and works pretty much like a native Z lens
@@TheRealRichardWong thank you for your reply!
Sounds like my Canon EF 50mm 1.4 usm from 1993 :D
Lol
