Those are VRLA (valve regulated) AGM (absorbent glass mat) batteries. The acid is not a gel; it's soaked ("absorbed") in the fiberglass mat. They aren't sealed; there's little rubber caps in the top to vent any pressure (steam, H2/O2.) There's actually very little acid in them, and after a few hundred cycles they dry out. (or a few "equalization" cycles from a dumb controller.. boils all the water away.)
Those modules are from BIG UPS systems like the Symmetra and MGX line. Looks like someone wasn't very careful plugging one in! (if the floating connector doesn't line up, and you shove anyway...)

I have some old camcorder batteries (the long rectangle ones with terminals on the sides) from the late 80s, obviously 100% dead, that I plan on taking the cells out of to replace with nimh cells (way safer than lithium and easier to charge) so I can use the camera in the way it was intended to be used, and with a much better run time.

That sounds like a good upgrade :).

Lol, I literally JUST watch a short of some guy in another part of the world replacing the lead plated. No joke, his first step was to pour the lead contaminated sulphuric acid into a stream... our planet is doomed lol.

Lol ... that makes my heart hurt. Someone somewhere is going to drink that and get very sick. It only dilutes to a point ... and the lead will settle over time into the soil... A lake near where I lived about 20 years ago had iron and mercury poisoning due to a steel works on the shore about 30 or 40 miles away from me. We were told that fishing was prohibited and that people should not eat anything that lived on or near the water. The heavy metals never leave the tissues and bones of vertebrates such as mammals , fish, and birds. These heavy metals transfer to other animals when they are consumed as food... Mercury and Lead are no joke and will remain with the consuming animal until they die and put it back into the ground as they decompose.
That said, those watching this video ... take good care to 1: be safe, and 2: don't dump waste and by-products into the environment ... Lead has a purpose, just be careful dealing with it.

Lead is the final stage in the successive half-life decomposition of radioactive material. Mercury was used in refining gold and making paper. Both are bad juju
