I think RDJ nails Tony Stark so well for two reasons: 1. He has the raw charisma necessary to pull off the part. Go all the way back to his supporting role in Weird Science (1985) and you can see it. 2. His own life experience gives him insight into Tony's damaged life. And a bonus reason - he's just a hell of an actor. 56:35 One of the great improvements in comics Marvel helped bring about was changing super heroes from mostly perfect people to flawed people trying to do the right thing.
16:29 Pepper's relationship to Tony is best described at the movie start as the old term "office wife". As comparison, they work together on their home (Stark Industries) without the messy sex stuff. It may be Tony's company on paper, but as his primary admin effectively runs everything that Tony does not bother with. From charity balls to personal investments in art, even who Tony may talk to, she doesn't need the recognition. She is fulfilled being "the power behind the throne".
Peter Billingsley, one of the film's producers, plays the engineer that Obadiah yells at. He and Jeff Bridges shaved their heads for this. As a boy, Billingsley played the central character in "A Christmas Story."
I remember there was a Japan animated series of Iron man back in 2010. The story was Yinsen somehow survived in that cave and Tony didn't know that. But Yinsen turned evil because some sad things happened, and he believes Tony is responsible.
That dude might have died from an embarrassing ricochet, but think about it .. he's literally the only guy trying to shoot through the eye socket. Third smartest character in the entire movie.
And yet thats the most unrealistic shot in the movie. Think of pool for how Ricochet's work. There is no way that a bullet shot at that angle doesn't just go up into the ceiling.
Tony Stark coming out as Iron Man was a bold thing to see back then. Because most Supers or Costumes didn't do that. They always kept it covered. But Tony broke that mold quick. Ironically it also affected Dark Knight later on.
Iron Man coming out was a stroke of genius and yes, a bold move, mostly because he was rich enough and have enough political power to fck with anyone that cross him. Power, in the end, is all that matters. Without power, strength is useless.
Paltrow was the spitting image of the comic book version of Pepper, easy casting, While R.D.Jr has been more like Stark in real life than anyone else...Wild parties, egotistic and a couple of drug busts that almost ended his career. But in the comics not even Pepper, Happy or his fellow Avengers knew who he was for years. And part of Stan's deal with Marvel was he got 1 million for every movie cameo.
You both react appropriately to Tony Stark at the beginning. He exemplified traits that some want to attain, and some that you might find repulsive. That's intentional. It's his character arc. Tony is always upgrading. His tech. His life. Himself. This is where he starts.
@@SuzySteejo, It was still funny though! And considering that Tony Stark had ordered a hamburger from Burger King earlier in the movie, your response worked perfectly! 😊
Don't know how true this is, never having read an Iron Man comic, but someone once told me that JARVIS is an acronym for Just A Really Very Intelligent System.
Jarvis was also the name of the Stark family's human butler (their Alfred Pennyworth), so in some versions Tony just named the butler's "upgraded" replacement after the original.
According to Google: In Peter David's novelization of Iron Man, J.A.R.V.I.S. is said to be an acronym for "Just A Rather Very Intelligent System." However, the A.I. was named after Edwin Jarvis, the butler who worked for Howard Stark and the Stark household.
Everyone in the replies is correct. Tony wanted to name his computer Jarvis, but refused to let people know he still regularly thought about what life was like when his parents were still alive, so he came up with an uncreative acronym and that was it.
46:57 batman does have that, in many comic and cartoon versions his cowl is basically a computer and all the info goes onto his lenses, the telltale game even included it. Also fun fact, the reason batman doesnt use an ironman like suit all the time, is because the stronger weapon youre using, the higher risk of accidentally killing, its why batman always uses what he feels is necessary for the situation, be it a baterang or a suit built to fight gods lol
Happy that you started your MCU Journey Suzy! I was never a western super hero fan growing up as I loved anime more but the MCU really opened up my perspectives over the years since Ironman.
I wonder if to foreigners like y'all it's obvious at all how this movie is a commentary about American war politics. It's about how we armed the middle east for money, and then they used those same weapons against us. Afhganistan, Iraq were big things when this movie came out, and fresh in our minds, so many shows at the time went that route.
In the comics, nobody knows that Tony is Iron Man, everyone thinks it's his bodyguard (which is the official statement given by Coulson at the end). In the original script Tony was meant to stick to the cards, but RDJ improvised the "I am Iron Man" line, thinking it fit better with this version of the character. Everyone liked it so much that they kept it in, drastically altering the trajectory of the MCU.
“It wasn’t the orange one!…” 😂😂😂 Good taste. McLaren F1. 20 Mil or so. Though if that was an original Shelby 427, The McLaren would have been preferred.
Watching Suzy's and Steejo's reactions made me understand the general appeal of Iron Man. The guys would enjoy the heroics, mechanical toys, bad-boy persona and RDJ's James Bondian charisma while the ladies would enjoy the will-they won't-they love story between beautiful people.

Robert Downey played Tony Stark perfectly, but he was just now remaking a name for himself. Now he can claim to be a rich "a$$hole". He started the MCU
Stan Lee created Iron man at the height of the Cold War. He wanted to create a character people hated which was the military and make the character represent that to the hundredth degree. Create a weapons designer that made money off war that everyone would hate then shove them down their throats until they liked him by him becoming a hero. Marvel bet their whole company on Jon Favreau and Robert Downey Jr. They would’ve lost all their characters. They mortgaged their characters but kept the ability to use them. They adlibbed most the script which Favreau felt it made it feel more real. Jeff Bridges wasn’t real happy cause he liked to prepare and know what he’s saying. He did shave his head and grow the beard just for the role. 6:07 you should check out Wesley Snipes in Expendables 3. 9:23 cause Tony was running for his life and the soldiers were doing their job protecting him. 11:35 this movie shows how some of those in sheltered lives act one way then when they go to real life and see what’s really happening they change their life. 13:49 she’s hoping for another round with Tony. Trousers would get in the way. 36:15 the whole deal with the cheeseburger and Burger King was that it actually saved RDJ’s life. When he was bad on drugs he went to Burger King for a burger and it tasted disgusting to him so he drove to the ocean with a car full of drugs and tossed all the drugs in the ocean and quit doing drugs. He started doing martial arts (Wing Chun) with a trainer. 50:35 so he has all this material just sitting around his garage? They never do show the complete building of the suit. 1:00:10 they could’ve been working on a peace treaty and the other side could accuse the US of pretending to have peace talks to plan this attack. Too much bureaucratic crap. 1:12:12 it’s interesting that his “Mark 2” mini arc works on a suit that was Mark 1. The Mark 1 was designed to work off his chest piece and not plug into the suit so Stane wouldn’t have had the specs to make it plug and go. 1:14:07 she saw the specs on the computer and the dimensions she saw didn’t match Tony’s suit. The first one you saw was Tony’s Mark 1 suit they got from the terrorists. 1:21:36 weird thing was it was called SHIELD when Tony’s dad had the company from what I’ve seen in comics. One thing that made the movie so great was a lot of the actors read the comics to get an idea of what people were looking for in their character. Paltrow asked Marvel to send her comics that really showed who Pepper really was. She could’ve gone and bought her own but she wanted specific ones that only Marvel or diehard fans would know. Robert Downey Jr was paid only $500,000 to make this movie compared to his last MCU film where he got paid $75 million. If DC would’ve copied what Marvel did when they started the MCU their movies would be so much better. Marvel had the correct formula for movies. Sad thing it wasn’t an infinite formula so they need to make a new formula.
“I feel like this is what Batman wishes he could have” *me looking at Murder Machine* yaaaaa probably best he doesn’t have that….. but he does technically have a AI assisted suit, the Hellbat Armor. And it’s dope.

Unable to find the full reaction on the website. Probably haven't gotten time to post it there yet. Will keep checking. Also, fun fact Howard the Duck was a movie made in 1986 based on a Marvel comic and it as also produced by Lucasfilm Yup, the same studio that brought us Star Wars also brought us a film about a large talking duck man.
@@SuzySteejo It's all good. I often view procrastination as a sport, and it's a game I play to win. Great video by the way. I said the same thing about RDJ the first time i saw this movie. He's so believable as as the character that he just IS Tony Stark. You get the same thing, like you said with Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool, also with Johnny Depp as Jack Sparrow. it just feels like they're not so much playing a role as the role is who they are. Which is what you get with someone with a great deal of talent takes on a role that they ACTUALLY care about as opposed to some more recent films where it's very obvious that the actors or actresses playing the roles aren't exactly thrilled with the character they're playing or the lore behind that character.
So just the fact that the Reporter was talking shit to pepper who probably gets paid very well by Stark for being his personal assistant. And assuming it's been done for years she's probably in a pretty good place financially.
In Suzy's defense, Reynolds had admitted being aware of having the need to get everyone's validation, and that's why he's always showing himself as someone a bit too goofy, even knowing how many just find him annoying because of that... So Suzy has the right to find the guy annoying... 10:48 that's called 'Having kids'...
Well, I don’t have them, but I played pong the first year. It came out and I played a lunar Landing game that was only available at my local science museum running off of a server in the basement that was 1971.
47:00 when she say this what she thinks batman wished he could had Alfred in his head. Well I don't thunk she has ever seen batman beyond where it's Terry as the new batman in a high tech suit with the old batman acting as the Alfred old man in the chair helping. Pretty much like Tony and Jarvis
His dad was a well-known antiestablishment filmmaker in the 60s and his son was probably exposed to everything you can imagine including all sorts of drugs and radical ideas so Robert Downey Jr. is a character

Robert Downey Jr. also spent some time in prison. One of the greatest Hollywood comebacks ever.
"Awh good ol Hef" HAHAHHA! i think a lot of people didnt notice this stan lee cameo
The voice of Jarvis (House A.I. Voice) is actually English actor Paul Bettany
“I feel like this is what Batman wishes he could have”
*me looking at Murder Machine* yaaaaa probably best he doesn’t have that….. but he does technically have a AI assisted suit, the Hellbat Armor. And it’s dope.
That dude on the TV. “Is American TV like that?” Sadly, that was a real show. Not anymore.
On your birthday, your husband is like hey Suzy, what is orange with a bit of blue and made of aluminum?
Suzy: you got me my sport car!!!
Husband: car? No, I got you a few cases of Irn-Bru. Wait you wanted a car?
1:24:45 maybe he was stan lee, but tony just assumed it was hugh heffner cuz tony is that confident he would be at his event
"Good ol Hef" lmfao
Them soldiers in the beginning are as great at doing their job as the secret service
You need to watch how the relationship changes over the 3 movies. It is pretty incredible to watch.
I know Suzy from the reaction of Naruto Shippuden episodes....😊😊😊...And here I am as an another marvel fan....
She def. needs to go on the Marvel journey of movies, from this one to The Endgame, and to the shows def a must
And she can continue post Endgame. She may like it
@terrellthaddies7867 definitely continue just alot of movies haha
@@maddog19fulTrue😅
This movie started a saga.
yessss all the MCU movies
Of note; the plot was well planned but the script was largely ad libbed by the actors. They felt it would come across as more natural feeling.
I'm back from Venice! What a video to come back to, I hope this means you're doing the whole MCU now hahaaa, god I wish I'd stayed in Venice. Thrown my mobile in the canal and just thought of a new name for myself.
If you threw your mobile in the canal you would prob of got arrested lol. Good ole Venice! - Suzy
@@SuzySteejo Okay maybe not the canal, but in the shower definitely. Oh hoh, oops, how clumsy of me~ Also, I took home a Venetian mask with bells and everything, fell in love with the place!
Don’t forget to include Stan Lee cameos and also 2 post credit scenes!!
stan lee never plays himself ....even his name is a joke.
New drinking game. Take a shot every time Suzy touches her hair.
idk if you do anime, but the mrs looks like a perfect cosplay from overlord, last few eps
I wish she watched Overlord that would be nice.
Yeah sorry about that, takes a while to render and encode for the website and I've been slacking :( ill get it up tomorrow - Steejo
Stan Lee did play himself, Tony just mistook him for Hugh.
I loved the deadpool game. I remember playing it on my PS3, and thought it was really fun
Spykids and pirates of the carriabean did credit scenes too
47:00 when she say this what she thinks batman wished he could had Alfred in his head. Well I don't thunk she has ever seen batman beyond where it's Terry as the new batman in a high tech suit with the old batman acting as the Alfred old man in the chair helping. Pretty much like Tony and Jarvis
His dad was a well-known antiestablishment filmmaker in the 60s and his son was probably exposed to everything you can imagine including all sorts of drugs and radical ideas so Robert Downey Jr. is a character
i used to watch Suzys videos back when i newly started watching anime and i didn't know any websites for watching anime and i used to watch Suzys Death Note reaction videos and watched death note first few episodes in that tiny little translucent box in the corner.
The good ole days haha - Suzy
Suzy, you have never seen Iron Man? If you have Disney Plus, all the Marvel movies is on there. Also, Suzy, and Steejo, my wife and i saw Deadpool and Wolverine this past Tuesday, it's so good, and so funny. It's the best one, and whenever you guys watch it, stick around for extras during and after the credits
RDJ plays snobby rich guy very well. Also hopped up on coke detective and over the top method actor. The guy has range.
The orange car is a Saleen S7 7.0 litre v8 and is 800k-1.2m
This was great.
Has Suzy never seen any of the MCU, before??? No judgment, just this could be the start of a real fun journey.
