    well done sir. You always do wonderfully well. Is sodium ion a spectator ion? It wasn't analyzed here sir

    • @TheScienceChefAcademy
      @TheScienceChefAcademy  Рік тому +5

      Thank you @jennypearl7921! Yes, it is! Why we didn't analyse it here is because you cannot use an aqueous solution of the commonly used reagents to analyse it. However, you can use a FLAME TEST to analyse sodium.
      Take a little portion of the salt using the flat end of your spatula and heat it directly in a Bunsen flame. Bright or golden yellow flashes indicate the presence of sodium ions

      Sir, whats the mass conc of ur HCl and BaCl reagents

    • @TheScienceChefAcademy
      @TheScienceChefAcademy  Рік тому +2

      You can use a 2 M HCl, prepared by dissolving 170 cm3 of the stock acid in 1 dm3. For the BaCl2, you can dissolve 2 mol in 1 dm3

    Thanks sir...please can you explain how to prepare reagents for qualitative analysis pls

    • @TheScienceChefAcademy
      @TheScienceChefAcademy  Рік тому

      It's easy. For your HCl, dissolve 170 cm3 of the stock acid in 1 dm3 of water. DO NOT ADD water to the conc. (stock) acid. That will give you a 2 M HCl solution.
      For the BaCl2, measure the mass of between 1 - 2 mol of the salt and dissolve in water 1 dm3 of water.

    What of the cation in d salt

    • @TheScienceChefAcademy
      @TheScienceChefAcademy  Рік тому

      The cation is not a regular cation normally tested in qualitative analysis using aqueous reagent, except by flame test. The cation is Na+

      Good morning Science chef, thank u for all u do.
      My question: what of in a situation where lime water was not asked in the question, would there still be a need to report that in the observation Or should we stick to what the question demands. Thank u sir

    • @TheScienceChefAcademy
      @TheScienceChefAcademy  Рік тому +1

      Most times, they would not ask you to use lime water in the question; but they would expect you to use it as a confirmatory test for carbon (IV) oxide....because it is one of the reagents you are expected to have in the laboratory.
