We could absorb the 29,000 people that live there if we can take in 20 something thousand Syrians.

His plan is to call an early election so he can get the votes from all the people that think he did good getting covid shots. Then he plans to bring in 1,3 million more 'new' immigrants to add to the almost 1 million he shipped in already. It's no wonder the country is trillions in debt now and he wants to dig the hold deeper but I think the plan is to do as much damage as he can then Quebec will finally separate like they have threatened for many many years

But if the population of T&C support joining Canada it wouldn't really be like a colony. It would be like a territory or even a province. We as Canadians would just have to swear we don't destroy the Island and keep its beauty. Only help it and modernize it. And turn it into a BEAUTIFUL but RESPECTFUL tourist attraction (or even home!) for Canadians

    • @hughjass1044

Of course you are correct and no serious person would accuse Canada of being a colonizer in a case like this.
But then that's not how the Canadian political class thinks. They are obsessed with optics and symbolism, in-group signaling and being perceived as eternally virtuous so all it would take would be for some other simp who thinks like they do to raise a fuss and that would be it.

Dear Atlas Canada, please do better research. Turks & Caicos approached Canada back in the 1980's asking to become part of our country. At the time, Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau immediately put the brakes to it because in his words, "Canada is not a colonizer because we know what it's like to be a colony". Since T&C was also a British overseas territory, it would have created a problem with the UK that Canada didn't need. However, Britain did agree that Canada could invest heavily in T&C basically building up their tourist sector, building hotels & schools which would provide education & employment. Twice in the intervening years, T&C has raised this issue & has been rebuffed by Ottawa basically because they squandered all that Canada invested there & one of their corrupt govt. officials ran off with the treasury. This led the British govt. to send Foreign Office officials to literally take over the T&C govt. to keep it from going bankrupt while cleaning up the corruption. Now do you see why Canada didn't want anything to do with this???

One group of people who would benefit from this would be older Canadians and those with pre-existing health conditions, who would have an extremely difficult time getting affordable travel insurance. If uninsured people need medical care while outside Canada, they would suffer enormous financial difficulty, but if Turks and Caicos were part of Canada, it would be a great place to vacation without having to worry about additional insurance.

They are beautiful islands indeed, but not viable. The British barely make it profitable, by allowing them to have a separate legal system which allows Turks and Caicos to be a heaven for money laundering and to turn a blind eye to the massive drug trafficking in and out of the US. Tourism has been the ruin of the Caribbean as infrastructure does not get renovated and nature gets so polluted that high-spending travellers move away to other places. Remember that mass-tourism brings only ruin and pollution to the thirld world. Canada does not need more territory and isolated communities without any future prospects.

British West Indies Federation tried to too.The West Indies Federation had 10 Provinces. The Province of Jamaica had both Cayman and the Turks and Caicos attached as dependencies of Jamaica. They both petitioned to leave when Jamaica was going independent. Then Turks and Caicos was attached to the Commonwealth of the Bahamas next. But the Bahamas was seeking independence about 10 years behind Jamaica. So again Turks and Caicos again petitioned to be detached from the Bahamas. That was when TCs considered having some sort of affiliate status with Canada because that was during the independence wave from the UK in the 60s-90s when the U.K. was uninterested in all the islands and they were scared of either getting invaded by USA or Soviet Union.

false. except the once case mentioned by you, there has been no serious attempt by Canada to annex the islands. The UK has never really considered giving it to Canada either. It's just something that sounds interesting and is a popular myth for that very reason. Many rich Canadians actually live in Turks and Caicos part-time, because of its status as a tax haven. Joining Canada would make it so that Canadian tax laws would apply here and the rich would not like it, so its not actually going to happen for the foreseeable future either.

Unlikely to happen. As much as I would want it.
Having an overseas possession or even a union state by definition requires having a functional Navy. The current Canadian Navy doesn't have a single large surface combatant (at least a destroyer size), not a single one supply & maintenance ship, not a single hospital ship, and very little in terms of submarines. Its core element, the Halifax class frigates are configured for ASW, are not very capable of sustained long range operations, cannot carry an air wing and can provide very limited support to an expeditionary force.
It took the entire might of the then Royal Navy to retake the Falklands from Argentina in 1982. If large scale military or humanitarian emergency happened to the Terms & Conditions (Falklands, Cuba, Grenada, Haiti style), Canada would likely be unable to meet its union obligations and its standing would suffer at home and abroad.

This idea has been around for decades. The T&C islanders support the idea but convincing Canada isn't as smooth. Everything every Canadian expects from the government including indigenous people would be expected by the people of T&C. Including DEFENCE. There's the sticky part.

How much does it cost for tax payers to put military defense on the island? Also Building the health care system is going to cost a lot as well. The health care system is already overbearing. I see a huge money pit on acquiring the island. why own the car when you can rent one? Especially when it is cost so much to maintain it.

    • @erikstephens34

The population of T&C is about the same as the city of Yellowknife. So the cost would not be enormous. Defense would also not be complicated. The Canadian military already has major involvement in the Caribbean. Establishing a CFS (Canadian forces station) in T&C might actually result in a savings.

@@icecreamlove84 The island literally has fewer people than the city of Strafford so the work is practically zero. A few billion dollars and it would be a slice of heaven (which is practically nothing in the grand picture). It would literally involve building a couple of medical facilities and phasing in Canadian codes and regulations. The advantages: The island would use Canadian dollars, no customs, no duties, no long term residency issues and no foreign property rules. Easy banking, easy to setup a business or create an extension of an existing business in Canada. Importing and exporting goods would be far more simple. Flights to Canada would be less expensive. And because of Canadian interests in the region having a local base of operations might actually decrease logistics costs.

@@erikstephens34 sounds like a scam, a few billion dollar tax payer money means nothing to people who are trying to sell the island to Canadian. • @erikstephens34
      @erikstephens34 3 роки тому

@@icecreamlove84 I think you miss-understood my comment. The few billion would not be an annual cost. It would be an investment over ~10 years to update schools, hospitals and local infrastructure. This investment would have a return. Because if T&C becomes part of Canada. Now they will be paying federal sales, corporate and income taxes. And the increased business will make the government money in the long run as there will be far more than 40K tourists a year going to T&C. And yes there are many other islands in a similar situation. But not many with the geographic advantages of T&C. And because T&C will be part of Canada it will attract more Canadian and international tourists and create a more stable business environment in the area.

Canada makes more sense than being a part of the UK. Just calling it a territory makes the most sense, given its distance from Halifax. As to "liberal values", Canada hs Left "values" (basically, an oxymoron), as Trudope has turned the country into a Marxist strongold- which was really on display with the Covid Cult theatrics. I have been to almost every province of Canada and always liked it B.T (before Trudope), but now they have adopted every crazy Left meme - gender dysphoria, climate change, high taxes, authoritarian b.s., confiscating arms from the citizens, propping up globalist tyrants like the WEF, UN, IMF, and other NWO pukes! Hopefully, Canada can return to a country defending liberty and individual freedom, and away from the collectivist nonsense that destroys every country that gets infested with this delusional thinking. I have never been to the Turks & Caicos, but I know it is beautiful and tropical - both plusses for a country, known for cold winters - save for SW BC.

Look at the Covid Cult tyranny in Canada, and Trudope's coddling of China, including allowing their troops to train in BC. When he was alive, he praised Castro - possibly because Fidel was his biological father. My comments had nothing to do with any mass shooting - which is a mental health issue, not a gun issue. Criminals find ways to get guns, regardless of the law - as they do not follow any law. Duh! That is why they are criminals.
