It is debatable whether we make the ideas or not. It is not debatable that we make the hook. With help from whoever around us knew how to make them, sure. But different people with same access to master hook makers will become differently good at making them. Some will even surpass their teachers. Others will never equal them. So we make the hooks with fish for ideas with. We get variously good ones and are differently good at making them bear fruit. It is debatable whether any ideas are floating around without each person's hook.
Therefore, if it is an individual's hook that shapes, i.e. makes, the world of ideas he can fish, and that individual is always one step ahead making his hook, we could say he makes his own ideas.

We don't make the ideas.. it's floating around there... Hint point is to catch em.. nice and pure which is hard.

Well, ideas are always born subconsciously anyway, they only find an interpretable form through conscious representation. The artistic work therefore are always a rerepresentation of the original intuitive idea. So in the end David is absolutely correct; an idea that can be transformed into art, like film and poetry, is always a gift. Like real true life. Totally. 😎🖤👍
