Still coming back to this lesson after 3 months. So many techniques and things to learn wrapped up in this fun, song. Thanks, Stu for always explaining things so clearly!!
Hi I just wanted to thank you for making these videos. I have just started to learn the ukulele after seeing George Formby and your videos help a hell of a lot. I have never played any musical instruments before
I LOVE IT! I’ve never heard this song before but it’s so fun. The first time through I’ll simply listen plus make sure I’m familiar with all the chords and strum patterns. Usually I just dive right in but today, before my head explodes, I’ll grab my second cup of coffee, tune up and test the water. lol Thanks Stu and enjoy the warm weather of Florida. We had our first snowfall of the season yesterday. Take care,
It's getting old back home too! Last trip of the year ;) Have fun playing with this - the idea is to apply the 3 types of strums as rhythm vocab for your strum as you sing...be merry now that Halloween is over :D Stu
Oh! Thank you for the strum demo!!! I need to approach strumming by different means. I kind of knew how to do one of those already with an arpeggiated strum and a pluck. (the basic swing strum) Rather then babble, just saying I think I can play a bit more things that used strumming parts. Thanks!!💖 Never heard this song before btw. Going to check it out.
That's great - adding some more control of our strumming is a physical training process but also a way of hearing the rhythm and feeling it in our body… Cheers & thanks for watching :) Hope you'll subscribe for more goodies from Ukulele Zen!
Formby was a master!! Such clever songs and his playing is out of this world. I'll try to get to that solo someday...I DID cover some of his strum/solo ideas in this video -- check it out here : ua-cam.com/video/VmtFe8B0l18/v-deo.html I also covered his "When I'm Cleaning Windows on this CD: www.stufuchs.com/stukulele
Wow just came across you by accident but glad I did. I've never played a banjolele before ... in fact I don't even own one yet - am still looking but you made this wonderfully easy to understand a few basic chords and strums. Thanks, I'm off to find another of your videos now. :)
@@UkuleleZen Thanks. I bought a concert banjolele since I last wrote but unfortunately finding it very hard to play ... with hindsight a concert version wasn't a good idea as the strings nearest the tuning end are 'high' off the fret board (neck?) and seems very narrow too so my stubby fingers don't seem to fit. Might end up selling it and getting a different one. :)

Thanks for the leason, you are really great, try Fronby's "With her head tucked underneath her arm", or "Mr Woo"
Thanks David - I'll do my best to get to that tune sometime this year...Please subscribe & ring the notification bell to keep in the loop of my upcoming videos :)
Thank you so much for bringing this joy to our lives. You are the best! Although, i still fell hopeless to do that that boom-ditty and , in genersL performing anywhere in a ose zip code as yours. I am going to bed with a smile on my fa e after a somewhat stressful day.
Aha! So THAT'S where the joke came from! People asking me if I lean on a lamppost when playing. I would look blankly at them and say "No, in my chair"..... D'oh! LOL
Nice Maria! That made me laugh out loud! Thanks so much for watching - please subscribe to this channel to keep in the loop of more helpful videos like this one 🎶🤙
Hey Jazz cat, I’ve caught a good few of your videos over the years. Nice to hear you doing this one😎👍. What did George Formby have in common with Kieth Flint from the Prodigy? Both were seriously talented motorcycle racers and could’ve made a living at it, if they hadn’t stuck with music 🇬🇧.
@@UkuleleZen Flint was an utter fearless demon and raced in the Fireblade cup (amateur race series) in the UK, from memory Formby even managed to get the Isle of Man TT Races into one of his movies too. See you on the next one Jazz cat😎👍
Thanks for your music, Stu! You're the best teacher! I look forward learning "If you could read my mind" Gordon Lightfoot's - I imagine the licks would be so delicious :)
Thanks Awit - i'll try to add that to the long list of lesson requests Thanks for being here :) FYI: There are song sheets, tabs and other resources for my UA-cam ukulele lessons at my Patreon Page: www.patreon.com/ukulelezen
Oh, that Good British musical hall tradition that informs so much of the Beatles’, Zombies’, Kinks’, Small Faces’ and others’ music, and corr blimey if Stu doesn’t do a nice job of it. I thought, oh no, why did the majority choose this corny old song but I’m glad y’all did. There’s a lot of music and learning to be had. Thanks, folks.
George appeared in films through the 30s and 40s. He was the highest paid UK entertainer of his day. He entertained the troops during WW2, over three million of them, keeping spirits up. And like you say, a massive influence on the next generation of UK popular musicians, particularly George Harrison, who eventually owned Formby’s banjo ukulele. Several of his songs are quite cheeky/double entendre !!
Excellent Stu...especially the word pronunciations....IF you only you change the pitch of your voice a tad then it would have been hard to tell Formby wasn't playing it!!!
I got a question but about the video: don't worry be happy. You use the patern DDU DU with C, F, and Dmin. But wich fingers do you use. Because u got some nails and i know that it can sound a lot different and it is different than when i play. I use de dump for down and the first finger for up. Thank you for all those awesome videos that are much better then the rest on youtube!! And sorry for my vocabulary im not very good.
Thanks for watching Victor! I use my pointer finger for that strum...sometimes I add a bit of the "flick" - look up my video about that. Happy playing! FYI: There are song sheets, tabs and other resources for my UA-cam ukulele lessons at my Patreon Page: www.patreon.com/ukulelezen
Depends on the song...I have pretty good ears & like to learn by ear. But - I've been geeking out on music forever. If it takes you longer, that's cool....enjoy the ride. If its a longer one, that's more time to enjoy the journey. Thanks for watching! Thank you so much for unlocking the mystery of this classic Fromby signature tune . Very much appreciated.
I’m only 3mins in and can’t WAIT to learn this with those absolutely beautiful chords! It’s going to sound awesome! Thank you!!!!
Great to hear!! Watch it over & over and slow it down with the UA-cam gear icon at the bottom of you like…happy jamming! 😊🎶🤙
Te-he! Turned out nice again. Fantastic to see a song by the legendary George Formby being featured.
Thanks :)

Hi. Is there an actual chord sheet for this, I'm struggling to jam along as I can quite see the chord shapes. Great videos though
This song is so old that when this song was released it was considered not to be pervy or stalkish
Stu how long does it take you to learn these songs?
