PT boats used Packard V-12s of around 2400 CID. These were welded separate cylinder engines. The Merlin was 1650 CID. Or 27 liters

That last one is the one that seems like it would have a "top heavy" problem and with such a big, heavy motor, the wheels seem rather spindly.
