Great episode. Hardly anyone includes prices for their haul purchases so very much appreciated that you did
I am so glad I found your podcast! Darcy is so sweet. I love hearing her little voice periodically. I have been binge watching your episodes. You do a good job. Very informative. That’s what I like.
Thank you so much for watching! Makes me so happy to hear you're enjoying the podcast.
Thanks for being my new yarn and mom friend! SO fun traveling down with you and spending the weekend together!
Thank you so much! Looking forward to more knitting adventures.
I really enjoy your podcast and your honesty, it’s very comforting. I also like that you actually talk about cost and how you plan your projects 😊
Aww thanks so much! Happy to hear you enjoyed the video.
I was the one who rang you up for your drawstring bag at the merch booth on Saturday afternoon! It was so fun to meet you briefly, I’m glad you had a good experience!
Thank you! It was lovely to meet you too.
Thanks so much for watching.
Hi Melissa! I am a new knitter, also of Southeast Asian descent, and I am so happy to have found your channel! So helpful to find someone who looks like me and has similar color interests ❤ Just wanted to say I love your content! I'm so excited for Flock this year as I am also from the Greater Seattle area. It would be so awesome to meet you!
Hi, thanks for watching! I hope to attend Flock this year - would be lovely to meet you!
I don't want to speak for you, but it seems getting more comfortable and confident on these videos! I loved the story about turning around and shouting , "This is small for reference!" I would have done something like that. Also, I'm excited to see you knit up the porcelain sweater - that blue is fabulous!
Aww thanks so much!
it was a wonderful time at Flock. I spent way more than i expected.
Melissa, thanks so much for speaking about social awkwardness! I am the same way and will often go over past conversations in my head and think of better responses after the fact. You are not alone! I’m glad you were able to have a weekend away. I also applied to test knit the Cameron pullover! Take care and happy knitting!
I have moments from 10 years ago that still haunt me! I've accepted that it's part of who I am and fortunately my husband is supportive and will help me if we're out together. Thanks for watching!
A magical weekend, indeed!
Oh I remember the 'this is size small just for reference' moment, we were pretty much right behind you and it was so cute! :)
glad I found your channel through looking for other flock content on here!
Thanks for seeing it as cute! Haha Thanks so much for watching.
Loved hearing about your flock experience ❤
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks so much for watching!
I completely do the rehearsing situations thing too ❤ lovely seeing your purchases, glad you had a good trip!
It’s great to see all your purchases! FYI on the Weekend Hat- it’s got a double folded brim so if you just omit that and only do a single fold, you’ll have plenty of yarn for the adult small! It’s also very stretchy so I think going with the child’s large is smart (I also knit the child’s large for myself). If you do the single fold, I’d just suggest doing the Italian cast on.
Glad you enjoyed seeing them!
Great tip for the weekend hat - I hadn't even thought to make that adjustment. I just might do exactly that! Thanks so much!
I was one of about 15 people who waited for the tickets at noon. They let us sit at the entry area and knit, and we all chatted quite a bit, so it wasn't bad. I saw you there, but was afraid to say hi, so I'm also part of the socially awkward club. I really enjoy your podcast!
Hopefully we have a chance to say "Hi" in the future. Thanks so much for watching!
What fun! Thanks for sharing 🇨🇦
I’m so glad I’m not the only one who felt socially awkward. I actually saw you on Saturday morning but didn’t know how to say hi in a way that wasn’t SO WEIRD. I love the stitch markers you got. I got some too and I’m already using them; every time I come to the markers in my project it makes me think of Flock be how much fun I had.
Aww, I hope we can meet next time! Let's embrace that it's going to feel weird and different but worth it.
I am so happy you had such a yarney/ knitty trip! Your HF yarn can also be used for the Oslo. I used one skein for one and it came out perfect!
That is great to know! I was thinking about the Oslo too.
Flock was so fun! Thanks for sharing your haul! I saw you on line. My dad and I got there about 920am. But just as I got the courage to walk up the doors started opening lol😅. It’s so funny to hear from so many people at the event how nervous or awkward we all felt or think we are. I got all the goodies I wanted on Saturday pretty much. But I went back on Sunday simply bc I had time to rehearse what I would say to any knitters I recognized 😂
Oh shoot! I hope we're in the same place again so we can meet. It's somewhat comforting knowing others felt nervous/awkward. Yarn festivals/events are definitely new territory for me, but I hope to get more comfortable with each one.
@@stringthingsbymel same here!
Hi Melissa! My cousin and I attended Flock as well! She's friends with the organizers and some of the vendors. From what we were hearing on Saturday from them was that they already have big plans for next year! It's going to be in downtown Seattle in an air conditioned space that should be more accessible via public transit (and train from Vancouver if that's of interest). The vendors we spoke to said they felt this event was a success for their businesses and planned on returning next year.
That's great to hear! I didn't mind the location but we were lucky and found parking right away. I can't wait for next year.
As an autistic woman I feel that part about social awkwardness in my bones!
For me it helped a lot to realise: it is okay to be socially awkward. Especially if the other option is masking, and then burning out while still failing to not be awkward. People who know me also know that I am interested, but might not think to ask certain things, so if they want to talk about something they just will. (For that it is important to be open about such things so that people know, so I always try to be open about it).
I have definitely lost myself when I've tried to act differently to avoid being socially awkward. It's been better since embracing me, for me, and learning how to be social in my own way. Part of my awkwardness comes from anxiety about being embarrassed. I often miss social cues and sarcasm that are second nature to most. If I'm in a group I can look at how other people react but by myself I usually say something totally off . Luckily I can ask my husband to explain things otherwise I Google 🤷🏻♀️
Thanks so much for sharing your flock experiences!
I have been waiting for this video to drop! I just knew you were going to bring home gorgeous things. The yarns you bought are all stunning, but that clay pink? That colour is breathtaking and I am pretty sure that it will look amazing against your natural skin colour. I love your anecdote about the Flock sweatshirt! I would have appreciated seeing a size on a real person for reference; my guess is you came across as adorable rather than awkward. So glad you had fun and I can’t wait to see that pink yarn worked into a garment!
Thanks so much for the support! It's taking a lot of energy NOT casting on that clay pink yarn right away. I cannot wait to knit with it but I'm going to give myself some time just in case I change my mind about the pattern.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts on not only knitting and yarn but also personality. I think a lot of us knitters are similar in ways and dare I say that I find a lot of knitters to have autistic personality traits, which I think is amazing and a gift
Awe thank you for the kind words and support. I really appreciate it!
If you’re ever looking for it, Black Sheep Yarns in Port Moody sells Hedgehog Fibres!
You inspired me - my husband and I are already planning a trip down to Seattle next year for Flock!
Good to know! Thanks for the tip! I'm excited for next year too.
Thanks for the video- I really loved how you included the prices as I was curious with it being in the US. I totally get having to rehearse situations! I wish I’d thought to rehearse talking to a gorgeous guy which I completely botched this weekend on my holiday lol
Happy to share the info! I'm sure the conversation with this guy was better than you thought. We're our own worst critics.
Thanks so much for watching!
Thanks for sharing your experience. I live in Seattle and tickets were sold out online so I didn’t want to go if the lines were going to be too long. Now I know what to expect, I’ll have to plan to attend next year
Thanks so much for watching! I feel next year will be even better!
So many cute finds! I really appreciate you saying the prices of items. I am pretty new to knitting and don't have any reference for how much things cost.
Glad you appreciated the info! Pricing for hand dyed yarns is something I would have liked to know when I started out. Not so much that it's a barrier for me, but more so for budgeting and expectations.
Thank you Melissa for your thoughtful review of Flock. I am down in San Diego and would have loved to have flown up to Seattle but I must not have paid attention as I had no idea a festival was going on until too late. I for sure will plan on next year even if I am going alone since I have no yarny friends. You made me laugh at your “awkward” moment. I think we’ve all had those moments. 😅
Thanks so much for watching! I feel lucky that I discovered Flock and can't wait for next year.
Melissa I think we all got more awkward since the pandemic I can relate ❤
Ah yes, I agree. It was a bit eye opening at first but the good part was that I started paying more attention to why I feel awkward or get embarrassed and am somehow navigating social settings much better now.
Oh gosh, yes! I've gotten soooo (much more?) awkward in these last few years 😅
Totally understand the social awkwardness. My whole life I've dreaded being around people I didn't know or didn't know well. Around my family or work family I'm a totally different person but it's stressful in most situations with anyone else. You are not alone. You're purchases were great. Loved that China blue you chose.
I am the same way; friends and family know how I behave but a lot of new people often don't "get me". It used to be more of an issue in my 20s because I wouldn't remove myself when I was feeling social burnout or stress, but now I listen to my body more and am doing much better now.
Thanks so much for watching!
I live in Seattle and missed tickets as well . I had the FOMO of driving by to go to the dog park . Next year !!!
I’m totally awkward too and feel similar to how you mentioned in this podcast
How much were the tickets for the marketplace? I can't find the info anywhere?
Hi, I paid 28 USD for the weekend (Sat/Sun) pass. I don't recall the individual day cost.
