Once a bustling, busy street when I was a lad back in the 60's ........... then they built the Bon Accord and St Nicholas shopping centres ........ then it died.
Aye mate ...... even ma' trusty Bells Hotel has bloody gone too ...... used to park the bikes at the back in the car park off Justice Mill. Even what used to be a bikers pub 'The Moorings Bar' is all bloody yupified now😡🤬😡🤬😡🤬😡 I was back in Aberdeen just last summer in a hired car (been living in London for about 10 years now) and couldn't get over all the stupid 'cash cow' bus gates that's all over the place ....... Christ, every time I turned a corner there was another damn bus-gate ....... even Bedford Rd has one now, f.f.k's sakes🤬😡🤬😡🤬😡🤬
@@user-jg2nq6ll4c bus gates now on Guild Street as well. Part of Union St. will be closed for months soon as they start to put in a cycle lane. Closed from Market St to at least Marishal St. apparently (if I read the article right). I know parade routes through the summer and autumn will be using Union Terrace and round past the library towards Schoolhill and Upperkirkgate towards Broad St.
For the last few months this seemed like a quite average day, but it feels like the majority of activity for shopping seems to end right around Bon Accord. I frequently walk towards Berryden Retail Park, which is busier, but I suspect that most of the typical shopping has moved elsewhere, including those retail parks.

I've read a bit about how fast it changed and seeing the same for Union Street now. Seems the shift is permanent for that too.
