Set my Zwift up on Apple this week with my new Tacx Neo 2T on a 42 inch tv. Wow what an experience riding on Zwift is now and the Neo is amazing, especially the road feel it gives and racing has a whole new dimension now. The setup was so quick and easy just as you said on here. I watched this prior to the installation so thanks Shane for your great advice/tutorial. Keep up the good work.
We did not have an Apple device and were having a lot of trouble using a Kinetic Smart Control with the Android bridge to PC. I switched to the Apple TV 4K and it is solid. I didn't realize the 4K would be better since my screen was 1080p, but the comparison on this video convinced me to spend the extra $20 to $30 for the 4K to get the better processor. I actually had not even heard that Zwift would run on Apple TV until I saw this, but it is a great way to create a permanent setup without a computer.
Right I’ve just bought an apple 4K and got the Tacx vortex at a reasonable £209 I’ve downloaded the app and got my garmin watch now all I need is a bike 😂 Great vids ! Subbed 👍🏻
Just hooked up the 4K version last night and I’m using it for the first time right now. Previously had the gen 4. Agree with you Shane, I really amazed how much better the experience is. Normally wouldn’t spend money for the upgrade but glad i did.
Putting together a plan to get on Zwift and was going to use my Gen 4 Apple TV but after viewing this video I may go for the 4K.. As usual Shane, GREAT CONTENT!
I just changed from using my Samsung Galaxy s8, which worked very well to the ATV 4k. The ATV is an improvement. It now renders shadows. The frame rate is better (the android wasn't bad but it's not as good as ATV) and the colors and detail are much richer. Because I was using my phone, I couldn't run the companion app but now I can. The one advantage that the android version had is that it was very easy to navigate the screen because of the touchscreen on the phone. The ATV remote isn't nearly as bad as people say but it is clunkier than using a touch screen obviously. The companion app though makes up for it. I still mount my phone on my bars and run the companion app as a control panel. The ATV is worth the $180 and it's actually going to be better than a business PC. Unless you already have a gaming PC, this is the best option.
After watching this Vid I had to go out and buy one. Really impressed with the setup not needing the MacBook to run Zwift with the Apple TV hooked up to the TV permanently. Thanks Shane 👍 Graphics are sensational.

@@carterfrance6924 I bought the Zwift. This is my third and with about 1,000 miles in I have developed the "wobble" others have mentioned. The main wheel is not perfectly aligned. I mainly ride outside atm but I am disappointed overall. I think I will get a different brand when this one kicks the bucket.
I’m using the 4iiii viiiiva hr strap to bridge my ant+ speed and cadence sensors to Apple TV (and iPad when I use that) so far it’s worked brilliantly easy to pair all devices and gives speed,cadence and hr on the iOS devices.
richard stephenson Does the bridge count as just 1 of the bluetooth inputs on the apple tv Zwift pairing screen. I'm having lot of problems pairing up 3rd input (Wahoo Cadence sensor) through the Zwift App so might need to invest in an ant+ bridge.
MarkyFo On the tvOS pair screen, my ant+ cadence,, speed and heart rate all paired with the Viiiiva hr strap and work with the Zwift tvOS no problem, the remote still works as well so it must be using just 1 Bluetooth input for all three sensors. I assume the viiiiva hr band receives the ant+ speed and cadence input and packages this up with the hr data and re-transmits it together as 1 Bluetooth data streem.

Awesome video!! Just installed the Apple TV 4K 3rd gen.. very simple to install..and the graphics looks awesome..I used a high quality 4k hdmi cable on my Samsung Tv that automatically upscales to HDR and 4k and it said 60fps.maybe it’s the high end hdmi cable..
I've done a few "Ask Lama" videos. I spend a few hours daily responding to comments and emails.... which doesn't scale well. Anything is possible once I'm set up. At the moment there's a tonne of backlog sitting here for me to work on.

Hi Shane. Great video. Just starting out on my cycling and turbo trainer journey. I am new to Zwift and this training type. I recently bought a Tacx Neo 2T and it’s great. The only problem is that I don’t really have the right equipment to get the most out of it. I’m using the Tacx software but I am intending to use Zwift. I’m only using my iPhone and although it is a Max it’s really not big enough to get the full feel of videos etc. I want to move to using it on a television and I reckon an Apple TV 4K will do the trick. My main problem is this. My pain cave is my garage but it is slightly too far away from house to get a wi-fi signal. I am going to use my iPhone and tether it to Apple TV. That seems fine in terms of working the Apple TV but on your videos I’ve been watching the iPhone is also a controller when used with Zwift. Will it all work well? I’m trying to get a wi-fi signal to my garage but having problems at every step.
Great review Shane. Looks like a killer budget Zwift unit. I was interested by two observations. One, the power readings were often vastly different on different devices. Is this just a lag/refresh issue? Two, it was interesting to not how two units render completely different times of day in the same world.
No idea on the power readings sorry, I didn't even take note of them, I'll assume it's a view/refresh thing. There's no problems in-game for the rider. World times... I've mentioned this to Zwift. Not a priority for them to sync worlds. Which makes these comparisons difficult... and raises these exact questions. Time of day needs to sync imo.
Great video! Just got an Apple TV 4K last night. I downloaded and use the Apple TV remote app on my iPhone so I don’t need the included Bluetooth remote. Is there a way to disconnect it, and if so, would that free up a Bluetooth connection for either my hrm or cadence sensor (Kickr user)? Thanks!
There’s no way I know of to disconnect the remote on the ATV4K. See my recent video about the Viiii HR strap bridge that can solve the Kickr cadence connection problem.
Just purchased the apple tv 4k for my pain cave aswell, slowly building my zwift setup as a new beginner. Only downside for apple tv is that it wont support Spotify for some inexplicable reason. But for now im just playing music on separate system and let the game sounds come from a tv. So no using headphones with ingame sounds. :) Also thanks for the video ! Really helped me alot with the decision what to go with. Funnilly the android beta was what got me into this.

Just did my 1st ride on Kickr + Swift + Apple TV 4K and oh boy, it’s harder than I thought. Also, navigating through the screen using the Apple TV remote is a pain! Do you think the 2021 Apple TV remote will help with this issue since it comes with directional cursor? (I think)
Little side note on the mobile map you can press on dot of other rider on the map and it bring up who it is and you can give thumb up and look at there sheet.

Hey Shane, can you open custom made workouts in Zwift on Apple TV? I have the older (not 4k) model and it doesn't show up on the menu. I get not being able to make them with Apple TV because the interface is not easy to use, but I think I should be able to at least use the ones I've made on other platforms. Hoping it isn't just me.
Hey Shane. Quick question. Are you able to change the date, as in change the course, on the Apple TV? I’m interested in doing a group ride with some friends in which we will change the course to just have ourselves visible. I know with Zwift on the PC this is possible, but wasn’t sure about the Apple TV.
The limited Bluetooth connectivity seems to be the major drawback for me. How effective/fast/glitch-free is the Zwift mobile link app work-around (both in terms of Bluetooth and ant+)?
Hi! Great video!! Could you explain in a simpler way how to use de Bluetooth splitting solutions? I use a dare2ride fuego (no cadence within) cadence sensor and HRM and have to discard the last one when using directly on my Atv 4K 64.. When I use the iPhone 11 mirroring through the Atv, all of them work fine, but wanted to use only the Atv setup… Could you get more into those configurations and/or devices needed? Thanks!
AppleTV. It's a device for things on a TV.... like Zwift. Makes more sense. iPhone will have people calling and messaging you 1/2 way into an interval if you haven't switched on do not disturb.

Controller for Zwift as in the Companion App? The Companion App will run on almost anything and will link to any other system running Zwift. eg Zwift on AppleTV will link to the Companion App on an Android phone.

Yes, they're both Bluetooth devices. You may reach the device limit though if you want a HR monitor at the same time. 1. Remote. 2. Kickr. 3. Cadence sensor... no more direct Bluetooth connections available.
thanks for the advice Shane, HR monitor will have to miss out i suppose! Final Question, can you do spin downs for the kicker on this device? Is it pretty much exactly the same as the IOS app?
Believe it! :) It updated itself later on. I don't see updates for tvOS being as critical as something like Windows (argh! But I do love it) or things like power meters and GPS units where usability can be greatly impacted by bug fixes.
Shane Miller Sorry. I had to say something as it seems like the first thing you usually do is check. Picked up my Apple TV today and had it setup in just a few minutes. I like it better than running Zwift on the iPad. Thanks for all your videos - they’re always great to watch and learn from.
Hi Shane. Is it possible to watch netflix and zwift at the same time? I'm not always doing workouts or races, so if it's an easy spin I like to watch something full-screen. Any picture-in-picture option with Zwift? And does Zwift drop out if you have it in the background? Really keen to pursue this option to have permanently setup in my garage (currently dragging laptop and cables between office and trainer), but need to have this multi-tasking option! Hey Shane, can't say enough about your videos. They are great, succinct, informative, and nicely produced. So, I just bought the 4K Apple Tv, and I have an issue pairing my Stages indoor trainer which uses Ant +. I have the VIIIIVA heart rate strap which does pair with the Apple Tv and displays my HR, but it isn't translating Ant + to Bluetooth from my trainer. Have you had a chance to test this yet? Does anyone have any suggestions?
Cheers... No experience with the Stages indoor trainer sorry. There's rumblings the Viiiiva works with IOS but not tvOS. I don't have one on hand to try out.... yet.
No really a swift zwift tip but I suppose it could be if anyone wants to get a "deal" on a 4k apple TV. In Canada and i am sure in other countries as well, you can go to an apple store and trade in your old iphone for cash toward a new one. However, apple also have a deal with a company (based in USA so if Apple Canada use them, Apple USA may as well) where you can send old iphones for money in the form of Apple gift cards, which can then be used on any apple product. I had two old iphones kicking around and have sent them in for what I hope will be $160 (they make an online offer then a final offer when they receive the phone). I believe it's called the Apple Trade-up program. Look into it...
Just for the record... You cab probably get twice as much or more for the phone if you sell it privately on Kijiji or something similar... I sell all my iPhone's this way... It gets sold in hours!
The PC version (Alienware) gives a better graphical experience, as pointed out with shadows. ANT+ support with Windows has been rock solid too. So for me, the Alienware wins for quality. Price wise and overhead of Windows daily administration it doesn't.
After 4 years service my Apple TV gen 4 just cant cope with the demands of Zwift today. Super laggy even on smaller group rides... is the 4k still worth the upgrade or will a gen 6 be round the corner?
My daughter uses a free child account (5yrs) to get her monthly medal distances in. I've been using an iPad for me and a Windows 10 PC for her, but it suffers with drop outs where she can be pedalling like merry hell, but her avatar is sat at the side of the road. Had to buy a 4K today to stop her getting despondent. Are the riders still using invisible cranks as shown on your video? :-D

Do you have to repair the cable device every time you use zwift, or does it remember devices? I'm concerned about the time it takes to get set up to run the Zwift program. Am I over analyzing here? Thanks for your time.
Love your videos. I have the Apple 4 . A week ago it stopped communicating with my Wahoo. Galaxy tablet works. Icon upper left shows no connect. I get a message to wake devices. Only device is Wahoo. 2 yrs it was easy. Any idea how I can fix? Big screen is great. Little, nope
Shane thanks for the side by side review just what we needed. Set up my Apple TV 4K and it’s great. Better than carrying my ageing MacBook out to garage every time. Only issue is custom workouts. Any better way than paying for a Training peaks account ?
Shane Miller thanks. I have created a new TP account and recreated a few custom workouts. They work fine at the moment but I am still within a 7 day premium trial. So I won’t know if a basic account is ok until the trail ends. A zwo option would be best thou fingers crossed.
Ian Robins that’s not exactly what we were referring too. We are talking more about an easier way to get custom workouts on the Apple TV platform. Which at the moment is only via TP. But after my premium trial dropped off yesterday, I can confirm that a basic TP account will still do the job. You just can’t schedule workouts for the future, and you can’t save amended / newly created workouts to your library. But I can live with that. :-)
Shane, great video, thank you! I bought Apple TV 4k immediately after your teaser to replace my 10yr old iMac I used for zwift in the past. Needless to say that with the old iMac the zwift experience was... different. ;) Could you please explain, how the iPhone App works for additional sensors (14:50min)? I got the remote and the Tacx Flux connected by Bluetooth and as my screen does not have speakers, I use a bluetooth speaker for in-game sound. So there is currently no chance to connect a bluetooth HR strap and the Apple TV. How can I do this using the iPhone App? Thank you very much in advance!
Once ZML / Bluetooth bridging is enabled on your phone, the devices will appear on the Zwift pairing menu on Zwift tvOS/IOS/PC/Mac/etc. There's a lot of combinations to cover. I have this noted down as a Swift Zwift Tip soon....
Sorry, I'm not across the exact combination of things you're wanting to connect. The minimum you need is power to move on Zwift. I'll cover more soon. In the mean time check out the Zwift Riders Facebook group, or hit up Zwift Support for specifics.

Love the Apple Tv. Easy and not expansive. I have set up three of those for my friends and family for Zwift

I think AppleTV is still the best bang for the buck when setting up a separate pain cave.
Is there an monthly Apple tv cost if only using it for Zwift ?

Hi Shane. Great video. Just starting out on my cycling and turbo trainer journey. I am new to Zwift and this training type.
I recently bought a Tacx Neo 2T and it’s great. The only problem is that I don’t really have the right equipment to get the most out of it. I’m using the Tacx software but I am intending to use Zwift. I’m only using my iPhone and although it is a Max it’s really not big enough to get the full feel of videos etc.
I want to move to using it on a television and I reckon an Apple TV 4K will do the trick.
My main problem is this. My pain cave is my garage but it is slightly too far away from house to get a wi-fi signal. I am going to use my iPhone and tether it to Apple TV. That seems fine in terms of working the Apple TV but on your videos I’ve been watching the iPhone is also a controller when used with Zwift.
Will it all work well? I’m trying to get a wi-fi signal to my garage but having problems at every step.

Great review Shane. Looks like a killer budget Zwift unit. I was interested by two observations. One, the power readings were often vastly different on different devices. Is this just a lag/refresh issue? Two, it was interesting to not how two units render completely different times of day in the same world.
No idea on the power readings sorry, I didn't even take note of them, I'll assume it's a view/refresh thing. There's no problems in-game for the rider. World times... I've mentioned this to Zwift. Not a priority for them to sync worlds. Which makes these comparisons difficult... and raises these exact questions. Time of day needs to sync imo.
Great video! Just got an Apple TV 4K last night. I downloaded and use the Apple TV remote app on my iPhone so I don’t need the included Bluetooth remote. Is there a way to disconnect it, and if so, would that free up a Bluetooth connection for either my hrm or cadence sensor (Kickr user)? Thanks!
There’s no way I know of to disconnect the remote on the ATV4K. See my recent video about the Viiii HR strap bridge that can solve the Kickr cadence connection problem.

Just purchased the apple tv 4k for my pain cave aswell, slowly building my zwift setup as a new beginner. Only downside for apple tv is that it wont support Spotify for some inexplicable reason. But for now im just playing music on separate system and let the game sounds come from a tv. So no using headphones with ingame sounds. :)

Just did my 1st ride on Kickr + Swift + Apple TV 4K and oh boy, it’s harder than I thought. Also, navigating through the screen using the Apple TV remote is a pain! Do you think the 2021 Apple TV remote will help with this issue since it comes with directional cursor? (I think)

Little side note on the mobile map you can press on dot of other rider on the map and it bring up who it is and you can give thumb up and look at there sheet.

Your Garmin HR strap will be ANT+ only. Not supported by AppleTV.
I can’t get my apple 4K to find my Apple Watch? It works fine on the phone app.
One slight detail left out, to date, the NPE Ant + bridge will not work with Android.

The Apple naming is misleading. You can use the ATV 4K with a non 4K TV (and still get the better performance over the previous ATV)
Hey Shane, can you open custom made workouts in Zwift on Apple TV? I have the older (not 4k) model and it doesn't show up on the menu. I get not being able to make them with Apple TV because the interface is not easy to use, but I think I should be able to at least use the ones I've made on other platforms. Hoping it isn't just me.
Hey Shane. Quick question. Are you able to change the date, as in change the course, on the Apple TV? I’m interested in doing a group ride with some friends in which we will change the course to just have ourselves visible. I know with Zwift on the PC this is possible, but wasn’t sure about the Apple TV.
The limited Bluetooth connectivity seems to be the major drawback for me. How effective/fast/glitch-free is the Zwift mobile link app work-around (both in terms of Bluetooth and ant+)?
Seems to work ok in my testing... your reliability may vary. :)
Hi! Great video!! Could you explain in a simpler way how to use de Bluetooth splitting solutions? I use a dare2ride fuego (no cadence within) cadence sensor and HRM and have to discard the last one when using directly on my Atv 4K 64.. When I use the iPhone 11 mirroring through the Atv, all of them work fine, but wanted to use only the Atv setup… Could you get more into those configurations and/or devices needed? Thanks!

AppleTV. It's a device for things on a TV.... like Zwift. Makes more sense. iPhone will have people calling and messaging you 1/2 way into an interval if you haven't switched on do not disturb.
Thanks for all the great videos Shane. Just signed up for zwift after finishing my trail week. Do you know if the Apple TV saves a local FIT file? Had a ride yesterday that failed to upload yesterday. Fortunately I found the fit file in the zwift folder.
I'm not sure mate. Getting to it would be the next hurdle. Check your profile on the Zwift Dashboard website, they upload them there too.
My Son has a iphone 5s and that save a local fit file. so the Apple tv may do it as well

Sure. The Zwift Companion app on Android will connect to any system running Zwift.
Hi Shane do you have to use an apple phone or can you just use the controller as I have a Samsung android phone great content.
Controller for Zwift as in the Companion App? The Companion App will run on almost anything and will link to any other system running Zwift. eg Zwift on AppleTV will link to the Companion App on an Android phone.

Yes, they're both Bluetooth devices. You may reach the device limit though if you want a HR monitor at the same time. 1. Remote. 2. Kickr. 3. Cadence sensor... no more direct Bluetooth connections available.

Believe it! :) It updated itself later on. I don't see updates for tvOS being as critical as something like Windows (argh! But I do love it) or things like power meters and GPS units where usability can be greatly impacted by bug fixes.

Hi Shane. Is it possible to watch netflix and zwift at the same time? I'm not always doing workouts or races, so if it's an easy spin I like to watch something full-screen. Any picture-in-picture option with Zwift? And does Zwift drop out if you have it in the background? Really keen to pursue this option to have permanently setup in my garage (currently dragging laptop and cables between office and trainer), but need to have this multi-tasking option! Hey Shane, can't say enough about your videos. They are great, succinct, informative, and nicely produced. So, I just bought the 4K Apple Tv, and I have an issue pairing my Stages indoor trainer which uses Ant +. I have the VIIIIVA heart rate strap which does pair with the Apple Tv and displays my HR, but it isn't translating Ant + to Bluetooth from my trainer. Have you had a chance to test this yet? Does anyone have any suggestions?
Cheers... No experience with the Stages indoor trainer sorry. There's rumblings the Viiiiva works with IOS but not tvOS. I don't have one on hand to try out.... yet.

Zwift starting giving me error code 114 on my Mac mini now I might have to finally buy yet Apple TV 4K
No really a swift zwift tip but I suppose it could be if anyone wants to get a "deal" on a 4k apple TV. In Canada and i am sure in other countries as well, you can go to an apple store and trade in your old iphone for cash toward a new one. However, apple also have a deal with a company (based in USA so if Apple Canada use them, Apple USA may as well) where you can send old iphones for money in the form of Apple gift cards, which can then be used on any apple product. I had two old iphones kicking around and have sent them in for what I hope will be $160 (they make an online offer then a final offer when they receive the phone). I believe it's called the Apple Trade-up program. Look into it...
Just for the record... You cab probably get twice as much or more for the phone if you sell it privately on Kijiji or something similar... I sell all my iPhone's this way... It gets sold in hours!

The PC version (Alienware) gives a better graphical experience, as pointed out with shadows. ANT+ support with Windows has been rock solid too. So for me, the Alienware wins for quality. Price wise and overhead of Windows daily administration it doesn't.
After 4 years service my Apple TV gen 4 just cant cope with the demands of Zwift today. Super laggy even on smaller group rides... is the 4k still worth the upgrade or will a gen 6 be round the corner?

My daughter uses a free child account (5yrs) to get her monthly medal distances in. I've been using an iPad for me and a Windows 10 PC for her, but it suffers with drop outs where she can be pedalling like merry hell, but her avatar is sat at the side of the road. Had to buy a 4K today to stop her getting despondent. Are the riders still using invisible cranks as shown on your video? :-D

Do you have to repair the cable device every time you use zwift, or does it remember devices? I'm concerned about the time it takes to get set up to run the Zwift program. Am I over analyzing here? Thanks for your time.
Zwift should remember the CABLE as the last known paired device.
Love your videos. I have the Apple 4 . A week ago it stopped communicating with my Wahoo. Galaxy tablet works. Icon upper left shows no connect. I get a message to wake devices. Only device is Wahoo. 2 yrs it was easy. Any idea how I can fix? Big screen is great. Little, nope

Shane thanks for the side by side review just what we needed. Set up my Apple TV 4K and it’s great. Better than carrying my ageing MacBook out to garage every time. Only issue is custom workouts. Any better way than paying for a Training peaks account ?
The free account should allow sync.... I hope as I’ve just canned my sub to them. I’m hoping to see customs workout sync for ZWO somehow soon.
Shane Miller thanks. I have created a new TP account and recreated a few custom workouts. They work fine at the moment but I am still within a 7 day premium trial. So I won’t know if a basic account is ok until the trail ends. A zwo option would be best thou fingers crossed.
My Son has TP basic and he can export a workout to a ZWO format and it loaded up in Zwift workout.
Ian Robins that’s not exactly what we were referring too. We are talking more about an easier way to get custom workouts on the Apple TV platform. Which at the moment is only via TP. But after my premium trial dropped off yesterday, I can confirm that a basic TP account will still do the job. You just can’t schedule workouts for the future, and you can’t save amended / newly created workouts to your library. But I can live with that. :-)

Shane, great video, thank you! I bought Apple TV 4k immediately after your teaser to replace my 10yr old iMac I used for zwift in the past. Needless to say that with the old iMac the zwift experience was... different. ;)
Could you please explain, how the iPhone App works for additional sensors (14:50min)? I got the remote and the Tacx Flux connected by Bluetooth and as my screen does not have speakers, I use a bluetooth speaker for in-game sound. So there is currently no chance to connect a bluetooth HR strap and the Apple TV. How can I do this using the iPhone App? Thank you very much in advance!
Once ZML / Bluetooth bridging is enabled on your phone, the devices will appear on the Zwift pairing menu on Zwift tvOS/IOS/PC/Mac/etc. There's a lot of combinations to cover. I have this noted down as a Swift Zwift Tip soon....

Sorry, I'm not across the exact combination of things you're wanting to connect. The minimum you need is power to move on Zwift. I'll cover more soon. In the mean time check out the Zwift Riders Facebook group, or hit up Zwift Support for specifics.
