    I had this car new and back then i installed an Astro Flight cobalt gold can motor with 7 cell battery it was a rocket. The Astute is heavy and low and handles awesome and the gearing with a hot motor it really rips. Way faster than Kyosho cars back then it might be from the gearbox multiplication of power

    The dipping that you we’re referring to is actually called Hydro dipping.
    It’s also amazing to see how suddle changes can make such a difference to the look of a buggy.
    Great job👍

    That rear arm that looks different is actually an ASTUTE arm. It’s from one of the later editions when they began to reinforce the rears. I believe I have one (1) mint if you need it. I sold my restored Astute recently since I have another Mint one never ran and don’t need spare parts anymore. It’s yours if you want to go with those later edition rear arms. Let me know.

    Very nice!!! I did something similar, I pieced together the Rere super Astute TTC. The jazrider parts are awesome!!! Just becareful when assembling, they are easy to strip out.

  • @tamiyasmith5851

    The TTC will take up to a 26 tooth 0.5 module pinion gear, although at the time of it's release the largest available was 23 tooth. It came stock with a 20 tooth pinion and the recommended motor for that gearing was the Dynatech 02H with the ten wind rotor upgrade. You might find that the Technigold motor might seem a bit slow unless you gear right up on the pinion. I currently run a Super Stock with a 25 tooth pinion and speed is respectable when powered with a 2s LiPo battery. If I drop down to 23 teeth the speed of the car also drops significantly. The Super Stock motors are almost equivalent to the Dynatech 01R on paper, but have a bit more torque and don't overheat when using larger pinions.

    I like this car a lot. One of my favorites from back in the day. Always wondered why tamiya didn't put a stiffening brace in to stop the flex in the chassis? An idea for an upgrade possibly ??? Cheers Gav!

  • @leehurst6922
    @leehurst6922 4 роки тому +1

    Gav the astute arms were revised by tamiya after the initial batch were found to be very prone to breaking so the extra bracing was added by tamiya themselves

    In the vintage manual p23: This car comes with 0.5 module pitch gearing (close to 48 pitch) .
    For new manual, to avoid confusions: Use 0.5 module pinion gear.

    Hi nice Astute. I,m pretty sure that the Tamiya TTC transmission uses .0.5 pinions also know as AV and not 48dp. They look pretty much the same but are different and will trash the spur if it’s run with the wrong pinion.

    • @RCKickschannel
      @RCKickschannel 4 роки тому

      Thanks for the info. It didn’t feel right. I’ll get a 0.5 pinion

    • @markbruton-young9228
      @markbruton-young9228 4 роки тому

      agreed most tamiya stuff are 0.5 module, looks very similar but will destroy your spur!

    • @tamiyasmith5851
      @tamiyasmith5851 4 роки тому +1

      The AV pinions are a 0.6 module, standard with the Astute, Avante, Egress, etc... Also available in that module were the steel HP gears, down to 12 teeth. The 0.5 module gears were only made for the Super Astute for the longest time, until cars such as the Dark Impact appeared, many years later. Tamiya strangely jumped from 0.5 to 0.4 module for the Dynastorm, TA03 tuning gears and Formula 1, etc.

    Hi, nice video. Since you know so mutch about vintage rc's, you might know a solution to my little problem, i have this Kyosho scorpion, witch i build and are running, but i'm not happy with the shocks, and i can't seem to find any good replacements that will fit, do you have any suggestions? Thanks :)

      What’s wrong with them? Top soft or not enough travel?

    • @klausknudsen106
      @klausknudsen106 4 роки тому

      @@RCKickschannel They are to soft, but i know i can change the oil and springs, but the little red rings that hold the springs in place are to fragile for my taste, and i would like some more travel, it bottoms out to easy. Thanks for the quick answer.

    • @RCKickschannel
      @RCKickschannel 4 роки тому

      Klaus Knudsen Take them off and not the lengths and then checkout eBay. Put in the lengths and you should get some others come up. I would also check the shock thickness to make sure you don’t have any clearance issues.
