Hi Mark, it brings a lot of memories of the Porterhouse Nightclub.. my name is Rita.. I own this club for 15 years.. From the year November 1986 till 2001.. The third floor was my living accommodation.. Unfortunately after I sold it, it went down hill.. I understand I was the only owner that had it as long as 15 years.. I had to do a lot of changes, in respect of taking control myself and not let the doormen control it.. I was firm but fiar with my stuff and customers.. .. I’m happy to see a well known building to carry on going for the great people of Retford.. I’m still in touch with a lot of them now.. Grand job Mark.. If you need anymore information about the club, please do not hesitate to text me.. 👍
Hi Rita, thanks for sharing your memories here. I recall your name actually from those years. I grew up in Retford and was first at the Porterhouse in the early 90’s until I left town towards 1996/97. I remember those doormen, still see some of them around town. I guess we know several of the same people from that era. It was nice to visit there again, remembering some of the fun times (and some not so fun). I hope you’re keeping well these days. Take care!
Wow, I used to come to the uprising every Thursday all the way from york, 2 car loads of us, best place that uprising ever had, thank you so much for the best nights of my life i loved the porterhouse to death, if we only had a time machine this is one place I'd come bk to ,thank you
And that dance floor on the 2nd floor, spring loaded or what, I remember the uprising xmas bash in 96 i thought the floor was gonna cave in with all of us stomping to that beat, could hear the place from the car park at the end of carolgate over 100m away, came all the way from york every week
Oh my God, Rita. Hope you are well. I used to go to Teen Scene & then Frenzy rave. You and me always used to have a chat and you used to think I was a good dancer. Lots of love, Gibbo. x
i worked as a DJ there for many years on and off, mainly in the disco area but i also did some Punk & Rock nights, God bless the man who owned it Sam Jackson..
Thanks so much for posting and letting us all see inside! I remember seeing New Order, The Au Pairs, Generation X and Athletico Spizz 80 here back in the day!
Wow, I never thought I'd see inside hear again, I used to come all the way from york every Thursday night to uprising buddy, best nights of my life and my favourite club ever , thanks for that mate top man
I remember coming to see The Darts here in 1980? Long time ago. One thing I remember being impressed by was the underfloor coloured lights on the dance floor. What about the infamous Cat's Cradle just outside Retford?
Glad you have some nice memories from here. I was a regular in the early 90’s. I don’t recall the cats cradle unfortunately. May have been before my time.?
@@Mid-Life-Mark The Cat's Cradle had an infamous reputation for adult acts which apparently included audience participation! I was a young lad of around 18 at that time (1979) and was told about this by my sister who was a teacher training student at Eaton Hall. Apparently it took the local police ages to close it down !! 🤣
Their was 2 night clubs the Cats cradle… did no end of bands there and rock city when it first opened… Sammy Jackson and his daughter ran the porter house I worked for a PA company and when bands was on, we was always in there with the speakers, so many abandoned, and from there went on with some people who did soft sell with exploited with lots of punk bands went down London and we did everything they all started from the reporter houseand then later on it become a disco buns was upstairs and the disco was downstairs on the second floor that’s between 1978 and 85
My Sister used to live in the flat above what was Barkers. And the Dog 'ouse staff came over to ask her to turn the music down, because it was louder than their's. Hahahahaaaa. She and I used to have 50p bets on who would start the fights at 3am. Hahahahaa. Those were the days :D
Had some great times at the Dogger, walking up from the Half Moon/Vine/Old Sun arm in arm with mates, rattling a long, chin walking one way and the rest of are body's going the other. The good old days with harmless teetotal fun and love in the air. Love my Reto Ghetto!!
Good old dogger, Retford needs it bk as a nightclub, got enough restaurants it will probably fail as too many places to eat for such a small town, but a nightclub would make money
Thanks to everyone watching this video. I appreciate the thumbs ups and new subs to the channel! God Bless Retford 😂
The "original" mark my wurdz , Sheffield's own wordsmith and star of channel 4, may well have trod it's hallowed stage.

Hubby and I met here. We were both working here. Fell in love and been together over 20 years with four kids.
🙏
Had a few nights in the Slaughterhouse back in the day. Can't remember much about them though 🎶🕺🍻
Slaughterhouse 🤣. Me too mate, was a bit surreal being up there after so long.

The very top floor was changing/ chilling rooms for bands I spent most of my yoof up there
God I miss the Dogga!!!!’ Someone needs to do a dogga reunion they would make a fortune!

Wasn't the only nightclub in Retford, there used to be the Aquarius and the Cats Cradle
I don’t recall those Darren, where were they and what era.?
The Cat's Cradle sadly I never got to visit being a visitor to Retford in the late 70s. A special venue with a reputation I heard 😜❤️
I used to go there in seventies. and cats cradle
Wow. I used to work in that food bar.
Great chips from there at 1am 🤣
That's floor used to shake
So was this filmed before or after they filled it with cannabis plants?
After 😁
Well there was none available at the time of filming James 😉

Really regret never going to the porterhouse. All those nights out and just never did. Stupid.
The Doghouse!
So many memories 🤣

Nightclubs are closing up and down the country. There's not enough footfall in town to support a club.
