PrimeWeld TIG 225X - AC TIG for a Thin Aluminum Boat

- Many thanks to Liam Shirley for his recommendation and a bit of practical instruction using a PrimeWeld TIG 225X. I'm not much of TIG welder, but I sure can't blame the machine. And I love that it comes with a 3 year warranty that includes shipping it back for repairs.

That guy looks like a lot of fun to hang out with. Great video Doug.
This is the exact welder I'm looking at purchasing. Thank you for the nudge. The shipping and 3 year warranty are big on my list as well.
call the numbers on their website and you actually talk to the main guy
i called and asked about customer service before buying the primeweld 225
Have this welder and it has paid for it self 15x over. Love it.
That unboxing would make Uncle Bumblefork jealous.
Good ole uncle bumblefork lol AVE should collab with svseeker.. I bet he would love to make some cool shit for the boat
We watch those videos because while we wait for ours, we enjoy other people’s openings to pretend it’s us to calm the pain of waiting for ours to get here. Also shows us what to expect when we get ours so I know if I’m missing anything or if I should expect a huge dent when I get it 😂
I bought the same welder and love it!
That dinghy will be a great rough and tumble boat. Perfect for letting crew members use.
I bought that exact unit and haven't even been able to take it out of the box yet. Soon. Really Soon.
Would maybe have made sense to preserve the box, in case you need to take advantage of the warranty...
Impresive unboxing tecnique.....
All I could think of as you unboxed that machine is Tim the Tool Man going ar ar ar ar..........
"perfect enough"... Tyrone D. Shewlaces
What’s the shipping and import fees like to get one into Canada?
Ok, I cringed when you opened the box with the cutoff grinder!
Gonna make it real hard to send it back if warranty work is needed.
MMA stands for Manual Metal Arc welding not to be confused with MMA fighting the sport where grown men get paid to cuddle each other.
I'm a 3 knob guy: #1 quote of this video.
Fronius magicwave 230, has bit more than 3 but every button costs twice the PrimeWeld.
AVE would be proud of the way you opened that box
To quote the master AvE himself "And Time!"
Hey Doug, the torch switch that you decided to leave to the side can be effectively used to do a pulsing similar to what Liam is doing, but slightly faster. I use a torch switch at work quite often over the foot pedal, especially for pulsing around small tube welds / small fillet welds - I prefer it over a foot pedal for these instances, as with practice I'm much faster at making the same welds when compared to using the foot pedal. Set the downslope to about 0.8 - 1 second, and get your amperage at ~120% of what you'd want to use with straight current. It also works faster than using a foot pedal because you don't need to reposition the pedal all the time when you're moving around the piece.
An unboxing AVE would be proud of ! Great entertainment! Thanks for making my day. Ant.
ZIP TIES AND BIAS PLIES would have cut that box open with a chainsaw!!! But a grinder worked just fine!!!👍
It does appear that modern inverter TIG welders are extremely unreliable. The Lincoln AC/DC tig which costs $2,800 apparently has constant problems, and is just as unreliable as the budget welders. The reviews for AC/DC TIg welders are not promising, as there are stories of them burning up. What makes Prime Weld good is that they have a no questions asked warranty and they can mail out replacement parts in days (not weeks or months). They have a customer service line that actually works. The customer service and warranty means, your Prime Weld will work for at least 3 years, until the warranty expires. The Harbor Freight Vulcan 205 is another good welder, but costs a lot more, although you can bring it back to the physical store and get a new one, without the hassle of shipping. Prime Weld pays for shipping to return the welder, so it's actually a better warranty than any other welder. Harbor Freight charges extra for a 3 year "extended" warranty (I think). But, based on the reviews I've read, inverter welders have a finite life, unless you get a Miller, or ESAB.
Manual metal arc (MMA) welding is a welding process where the electric arc burns between a coated electrode and the workpiece
That's my Grandson!
Thats exactly why I enjoy learning from you, all of the scientific jargon I learn. "This is hard to weld because this metal up here is thin, really thin. And this is metal here is thick really thick" great!
Was this supposed to be humorous? Or was this a true clusterfuck of a review? I couldn’t finish guys, sorry
Wire wheel that adhesive and carpet residue off. Aircraft paint stripper will soften it and it can be scraped but you will need a lot. It’s messy and time consuming. Mask up and do what you do best. Grind it :) also I have this same welder going on a year. Made 4 swim platform full flotation engine brackets with it so far. 1/4” and 3/8” aluminum. Don’t have a mig with a spool fun so it’s pretty slow but it’s been a good machine.
Gee, most people just install screen doors in the bottoms of their boats, then spray them with _FlexSeal._
I love my blue machines, that said last year I bought a $99 inverter stick unit from china and have absolutely run it through its paces. I have been so happy with it, its a tank. Ill be interested to see how your unit holds up
A how NOT to unbox video. Sure hope you don't have to ship it back...
Dayum , I'd probably toss that shit across the room a couple of times to make sure it's tough tested . lol
TIME! ....Classic AVE
Manuals are fer them feller's what's running low on toastestureen!
I don’t normally like on boxing videos but this is the best one I’ve ever seen.
throw those large silica packets (and small ones) in your welder by your spool of welding wire. It helps prevent the wire from developing a flash rust and gumming up your torch leads.
I think the 2nd mask is for guests?
Primeweld is made in 🇺🇸 . I believe new jersey
Tha way u unbox everything is prolly tha reason the everlast welder broke,I mean damn!!
You're that guy that collects the warping paper on Christmas morning?
MMA = Manual Metal Arc (aka Stick Welding)
If you turn the box upside down and open the flaps. roll it back upright then lift off the box no mess. Or cut around the bottom then lift off. Worked for a welding supply company for 29 years. Less mess and damage.
I bet you’re just the life of the party
@@SVSeeker It's just you looked like my grand kids on
Christmas .And we had to unpack ti put on display.
Hate to see you guys at Christmas LoL 😂
He knows ave😂😜
So what’s the verdict on the welder?????
Short term from an beginner? I like it.
I’d like a follow up video after 10 to 20 hours use!
this project is amazing doug, very inspirational. I hope one day I can build my own small sailboat or catamaran
Did somebody mention a prank ?? Ha ha ha !!
Hey guys!! Can you remember what type / number filler you used?

@@SVSeeker your a legend thankyou ❤️.
I have that same TIG machine and love it.
nice, I got mine for $742.50 shipped via they honor military and emailed me a discount code, I can not wait to start learning TIG, great video guys!
Ed Opheim of Kodiak Alaska made amazing flat bottom boats that would pack a lot, yet were incredibly efficient. Russell Brown of Port Townsend, WA is the current brilliant skiff designer and the go to guy. Aluminum is the right material, and I recommend 5086 alloy, about 3/16" for bottom and a little thinner for the sides. A 1/4" bottom hook in the back is about right. 5356 is the right welding wire.
Unless the welder was a gift I would have sparred the box. That’s just me though.
Only Doug can turn unboxing into grinderfest ! How long a "break in" do you plan... anything like the last one's accelerated testing program ?
Theres a mophorn on amazon for 550$ it does aluminum alright. Only thing i dont like is that there is no variable amperage control just an on off switch. I wonder if there is a mod for it🤔
you need a college degree to use one of them 14 nob welder's, I'm a three nob guy to.
I unboxed a tv the other day, Need to return it tho, had some cut marks on the screen. They said it looked like someone used a grinder on it, Now WHO! would ever do that..
You guys are hilarious!! Great video!! I got this welder in October and love it!
The Amara Zee was built one town over from where i live! Sadly i wasn't around yet but very cool! i would have never known without this video!
I hate finger controls lol. Just wedge the pedal up against something then you can weld upside down, done that a few times.
Great video guys 👍
3:32 never mind the grinder, comedy genius and accidental troll! unboxing by blindly tipping the contents into a bigger box :D
see i swapped out the 20amp breaker for 30amp because the chop saw was tripp'en it over & over. have'nt had any fire issues yet prolly not code but im sick to shit of fighting with tripped breaker on startup of the chop saw
A Chop saw is one thing but changing the breaker for something using sustained amps like a welder is asking for a fire.
i dont think thats how unboxing is done usually XD
The high freq is an easy fix. lots of videos.
I'm not surprised nothing last more than 10 hours in your hands. I had to stop watching at 6:12.
Good safety precaution. We do shit that would likely kill you just for having watched it.
I own the htp 221 inverting and I love it.
Love the video looking forward to more
I‘m not a welder but I really like the ewm picotig 200 ac-dc pulse. With that one I had the same „so i‘m not that bad of a welder after all“
WOW you're rich, nearly "Miller" rich. Sorry, I'd say they are an exceptional welder, but the price tag had me "back peddaling". I ended up with the BOC Smootharc 200 acdc.
BLOOD!!!!
OH GOD NO... THE BLOOD!!!
mma, manual metal arc
Thanks for the video.
I have the same welder
You still alive. Good.
hi look like fun
the wheel cutting tool
Thanks for the early link!
@Doug What happened to the HTP machine?
Gave it to Richard “42Fab” and he loves it.
Is this a new aluminium dinghy??
It's another.
I'm out of the loop. What is this boat? I missed the back story on it.
It's a big fraud to get money
@@jusb1066 how so?
I just got this exact welder. I ordered on a Friday evening and got it Saturday morning. With FREE shipping! I’ve only used it once so far, but so far, I love this machine. Almost went with the neverlast, so glad I didn’t. I just posted a video on my channel for a cart/table for it if anyone is interested. (And yes, I am shamelessly plugging my channel. Sorry.)
”Welders”
Nice vid I'm thinking about buying one! Any idea what the machine itself weighs ? All I could find was the package weight
