    That flag was a gift from us to you out of thankfulness, you didn't have to give us a shout out my man. You saved me a ton of time making a decision with all the videos that you created. You've even got me experimenting a bit and following along with other griddle guys. When our son first started eating solid foods I was cooking up stuff for him almost daily on the griddle. Never been much of a cook but your feed has helped me learn a lot my man. This was definitely a helpful video for sure in terms of long term use and expectations.🤙 I bought the 5 burner based on your videos and it's a blast to cook on. From my family to yours thanks for all the help, keeping everything lighthearted, and for supporting us my man. Bless you and your family my brother. 🙏🤙

    I have this exact model and have heavily used it for 6 months. Pretty much agree with all of this, even the cool zone (which actually has its uses). However, mine still looks nearly brand new and I almost never have anything stick during a cook unless my top is a little dirty. I was careful to never leave oils on it after a cook or during pre-heating (maybe that is a reason?). Also I usually only deep clean it about once a week with water and a little baking soda, otherwise, just a nylon polymer scraper, water, and paper towels to clean up. This griddle is VERY low maintenance.
    Personally my only two big downsides from this model after 6 months.
    1. Unable to safely use Metal tools - I have the official Pit Boss nylon polymer tools and while I do like them... I still really wish I could safely use normal metal spatulas & scrapers. (unfortunately a trade off for being easy to clean and maintain I guess)
    2. I need more space - I wish I had purchased at least a 4 burner (still portable) or 5 burner (not portable). Although I utilize the cooler left side for cooking eggs or keeping things warm, I wish I had more hot zone space for normal cooking. I have taken my griddle to the lake before and although being portable is super useful, I still daydream that I had purchased the 5 burner so that I could have more space for day to day cooking. In fact, I would love to have room for a little wire rack I could leave on the left side for taking food off the hot top while still keeping them warm.
    Thanks for all the great videos! 90% of my griddle-cooking meal ideas come from your channel. My family thanks you. Keep up the great work. - A Flat Top Peasant

      While I don't have the Sierra or the Ultimate Griddle from PB, I do have the PB 4 burner Deluxe which is Rolled Steel and can honestly say that the left two burners do not get as hot as I would like. The first (Closest to propane tank) is piping hot, the second is hot, the third is Medium, and the 4th is warm. I think its an issue with all PB griddles unfortunately, I would prefer they all worked at the same heat and let you control it, that would be ideal and logically what should be the case already. Im really thinking of selling my Deluxe to by me an ultimate, my deluxe folds down for portability and the sides fold in to make a cover for the actual griddle. Im wondering if it would be worth it, Id be losing cooking space and metal utensil usage to gain easy cleanup and low maintenance.

    Thank you Neil for this video. I purchased the high heat silicone spatulas that I'll learn to use. I had a rolled type griddle that I used the metal spatulas on and the clean up was a pain, so for this reason I went with the Pit Boss Ultimate Griddle.

    Great video. We bought a Pit Boss Sierra non-stick griddle yesterday after watching a few of your videos. The number one factor for us was low maintenance. We had a Blackstone years ago and found out we were WAY too lazy to maintain that rolled steel top, especially in a humid climate. We also already have a Pit Boss dual pellet grill/gas grill on the deck and the Sierra matches it perfectly. Looking forward to putting some of your recipes to use! Cheers!

    Thank you for your honest review! I purchased a char griller four burner in February, first flat top, rolled iron and I love it! Because of economics it was the best decision for me! I looked at the ceramic tops and my personal choice I like cooking on cast iron verse's nonstick! I like higher temps and even heating! Personal choice! But your comments make me ponder about getting a pit boss some day! I want to see how they hold up over the long haul! Keep on griddling! You push the creativity to new limits! Like you, I have a Ceramic Pit Boss, 36" Blackstone and a Camp Chef. I agree with 90% of your observations. For me being 6' 3", the lower height of the Pit Boss is kind of annoying. I understand that because of the portability feature, it probably has to be that way. I prefer the Blackstone's rear grease catch because I would rather scrape everything away from me instead of toward me because I end up flinging grease on myself. And I much, much prefer to use metal utensils on a rolled steel griddle. I just can't stand the silicone ones. Clean up is easier on the pit boss, but it doesn't take me that much longer on the rolled steel griddles. All that being said, I would still take any of these griddles any day over a propane grill or Big Green Egg like I used to have.

    I have the 5 burner ultimate. I'm about 150 cooks in. I agree with everything you said and I will add a couple of more gripes. 1. The temperature doesn't go low enough. I have to cook everything on the lowest setting. 2. This griddle really needs to be under a covered patio. My knobs that light up blue are great but they have a square hole on top that lets the rain in and it drains the batteries. 3. The slide out trash bag holder is a great idea but it's really poorly made. 4. The finish on my lid is very rough and is hard to clean. I use the same scraper as you and use it after every cook. I still love the griddle and the way it sears steaks and burgers.

    Just a thought, but if you want to clean up the 'seasoning', try using baking soda or kosher salt as an abrasive and use your scrubber and it will start to take off that blackened area but won't hurt the surface. The dark areas, as you said, doesn't affect the cooking but it can be annoying. I've done that with some of my ceramic coated fry pans or stainless steel pans and it works well.

      GeT the 4 or 5 burner! You'll like the extra room. I have the 4 burner and wish I got the five burner and the only reason wanting the 5 over the 4 is the propane bottle is stored in the cabinet. On the 4 burner you can't fold down the right shelf for storage without removing the bottle. However, if you want the portability of 4 burner you won't get that with the 5 burner.

    Great review, straight up. One thing I like about the Blackstone is the grease moving away from me, not towards me, just in case there is a flare up. Second, though the coated top is a convenience, In theory, it is not the traditional griddle in the pure sense. It is like cast iron against an aluminum pan, maybe it's just me but I like the traditional approach and I like the use of oil, it is part of the experience. You point out many things that you need to keep top of mind, just not something I would want to do. Love the plaque, well placed and it's from a veteran to a veteran. Nothing better.

    Hey thanks for the 6 month review... it's way better than a review were you never used the thing 🤣. but let me add 2 things
    - The heat zones... it's a built in thing to have less heat on the left side. it's even sold as a feature (I saw it on the store marketing) and it makes sense, it replaces the top rack of a BQQ and allow you to keep food warm once fully cooked ... so I do not see this as a Con, but as a PRO.
    - You talk about the paper towel holder but not about the trash bag holder that's on the left side (did you missed that great feature ?).
    Anyway. thanks and i am definitively buying one of these.

    • @TheFlatTopKing
      @TheFlatTopKing  5 місяців тому

      I just double checked about the heat and I did not see that on the pit boss page...either way...for me...i like even..when a side is lower...the only way to warm up that side is to raise the temp....sounds fair...BUT by doing so you also raise the temp on the griddle next to that spot...Using an even griddle.....You have control over the heat distribution..BUT thats how I like it...so thats not important in this statement...as per the trash bag holder...not important to me at all...some have em and some dont...i dont use it so nothing for me to say....its an extra that didnt have anything todo with performance...some like and it and some dont...

    I bought my 2 burner Pit Boss for portability so i could take it camping and still use it at home. The clean up wheather at home or on the road is the number 1 feature and once you learn your zones cooking is a breeze. The only down for me is the grease cup I still have not found anything that will work for a quick clean up other than trying to make a cup out of aluminum foil.

    Pit Boss makes a great product. That said I just don't want to deal with that surface coating. OK maybe in my omelet pan for nonstick but on a big griddle I'm sticking to steel. Eventually I would figure out how to mess it up. I want something that 20 or 30 years from now it's still performing the same. Great review, have a great day 🌤 😀 👍.

    I am thinking you did a video and Pit Boss sent you this Griddle as a promotion. I am a Spark Reviewer for Walmart and have reviewed close to 300 items. If that is the case I love even more the honesty in the pros and cons. I thought it was pretty thorough. The only thing I was wondering is if it has a natural gas hook up, or if there is a kit for one as I have a natural gas hook up on my patio. The Face Book Page which I subscribe to seems to have it's share of mixed reviews on the griddles also. My suggestion, and I made this comment before on another video you did is for one of these companies to contact you on designing the ultimate griddle. All these companies seem to come out with something and it is like you wish you could take this and put it on that to make it better, and vice versa. As far the plaque which looks great, well I doubt this guy sent it to you for recognition, but I thought it was awesome of you to do the shout out. I will check out his site. Great Review.

    Rolled steel... i.e. Blaclstone type surface... use it, misuse it, even abuse it like letting it stay out in the weather and rust... and you can always bring it back into usable shape. Not so much with ceramic. Its (the cook-top) sort of like the you mother's or grandmothers cast iron skillets... they last for generations. The week link in EVERY grill is the frame. Burners degrade also but they can be replaced... but when the frame rusts away, they are all throwaways. Good thing they aren't real expensive (relatively speaking) such that you can just buy another one every few years. Doing so will unlikely change your standard of living, but its a shame they can't put a few more bucks into the frame so they can at least keep up with the life of the cook-top portion of the grills.

    Question....you say NOT to season with oil as its not recommended, but Pit Boss states differently in their user manual, that it is recommended after each use. (page 13, item 2 under cooking components) ....why would you recommend against it, when they recommend to? Just picked this up yesterday and looking forward to many cooks on it.

    • @TheFlatTopKing
      @TheFlatTopKing  Рік тому

      Because I personally think they were lazy in there instructions. I think they repurposed the information from their original griddle line.
      I have had the ABSOLUTE most experience with these griddles besides the @waltwins from a stand point on how many cooks and variations have been produced.
      Now with that being said look at it this way. This unit specifically is a Ceramic Coated Surface.
      How many inside skillets or pots and pan do you know says to season them before and after use.
      This is a completely different model based on the cooking surface. I also have have reversed my position about cleaning it after personally making common mistakes.
      You need to clean just like a skillet inside the house.
      Use only oil when needed and not over the entire griddle and clean with soap and water after each use. dry and good to go..

    • @gfmediaceo
      @gfmediaceo Рік тому

      @@TheFlatTopKing fair enough. My intitial reaction was that it was repurposed verbiage, but then noticed it was directly below the part about not using metallic tools because of the surface. @@TheFlatTopKing in terms of the Primate, it burns very hot and a lot of heat comes up from the bottom in front of the griddle. In the Primates defense it is a gas grill with a griddle insert. My DIY fix was laying down two of the grease deflectors down in front ( you will see them on any of the griddle vids I’ve done). That seems to have helped. The product is well build and the assembly was straight forward. The take away is if you want a griddle buy a griddle and if you want a gas grill buy a gas grill.😎
