The grain showing on the hat is amazing! Love his potato nose too. The time lapse painting is fun to watch. (It would be awesome if you could add music that goes with the character being painted; mountain music, Christmas… or whatever.) Master carving and excellent videography!
This is great Van. Thanks so much. I get so much inspiration & knowledge from your teaching. A couple of questions. Do you apply any solution to the carving before painting & what do you use as a sealer after the painting is complete? I want to echo the comment of Gene Messer, your “teaching is superb... .”
I just wash them with some soap and water before hand and then I have a dipping mixture to seal them after. I am posting a video in the morning of what I seal them with!
Thanks Van! Love the drybrushing. Will you seal the carving after painting? If so, what do you use? Appreciate you taking the time to show us what you've learned
Just found your channel few days ago and subbed right away, love it. Just wanted to know if you put linseed oil or anything else on the carving before painting. On this one it doesn’t look like it. I paint my carvings on bare wood and they look just fine to me. Cheers
For anyone interested in how I finish/seal my woodcarvings you can find it here: ua-cam.com/video/wAwcv4MrsqE/v-deo.html
Your painting skills are next level, thank you for sharing and God bless.
What type of paints do you use?

Another great video, Van, and wonder if you "antique" any of your carvings?
Nice job. He looks great! What do you seal it with. You mentioned dipping him in a solution.
Yes, I'll put out a video in the morning of what I dip them in!
