  • Sydney’s North West Metro opened on 26 May 2019.
    In the weeks before opening, a complete journey was captured in real time end-to-end from the Sydney Metro Trains Facility at Rouse Hill to Chatswood.
    Sydney’s new driverless trains were in the final stages of testing, and completed 40,000 kilometres before services started. That’s 10 times around the equator.
    Keep an eye out for:
    • The Sydney Metro Trains Facility, where the trains are stored;
    • The journey through the train wash building;
    • The landmark Windsor Road railway bridge;
    • Our skytrain stations;
    • The dive into the tunnels and the underground stations;
    • The massive underground rail crossover cavern at Castle Hill;
    • Cherrybrook Station, where we see daylight before heading back underground;
    • The internal curvature of the train as it rounds bends, see from one end of the train to the other;
    • The transition from the new tunnels into the existing suburban tunnels outside Epping; and
    • The distinctive design of the tunnels from Epping to Chatswood.
    The line is being extended from Chatswood, under Sydney Harbour, through new city stations and beyond to Bankstown. In 2024, Sydney will have 31 metro stations and a 66km standalone metro railway.
    Sydney Metro is Australia's biggest public transport project.
