  • Watch the first part before this one: • THE END OF TIMMS BMW 8...
If you ever need to repair the rear suspension on your BMW E31 then you better watch this, it's blooming hard work. Half the bits are No Longer Available (NLA), and the parts that that you can get are expensive. But there are a few places that can help you out.
Firstly, Wolf and his company Wokke.de is a great source for quite a few bits including the suspension - and the NLA eccentric bolts. Along the same lines is Phoenix Motorsport run by Gerry Speechly who has been in the E31 community for much longer than I have. He does the upper wishbone and spring-hanger spherical bearing replacements.
Anyway, I go through all the parts that you need for a rear-suspension rebuild.

We have plenty of rondell 0058 in Poland. I could help with shipping and stuff. Glad to see the car being saved. Interior/ exterior combination is one of the best I've ever seen.

My Alfa got hit from the left side, pretty similar to your accident but I managed to swerve at the last minute. Might have been better of not, and having it written off. 5 months later and repair still not finished, parts on back order etc. being painted in the next 2 weeks. As it was a new car, I didn't have the luxury of used parts or DIY repair. Feel your pain. Hope you get it sorted soon. Worth hanging onto.

A lot of other people are doing similar types of posts but they are buying cars already damaged. You're doing a real life thing. Even though you weren't driving the car, the fact it's your own car and the accident was caught on dash cam really makes this all the more interesting. Hopefully you'll be able to get some footage of the car being repaired in the body shop. Looking forward to the next posting. 🌝👍👍

Glad to see the restoration project in full swing! The new replacement wheels you put on temporarily actually look much better i think? Thanks for the post Tim, you have turned a catastrophe into another mechanical victory and an interesting story though one we all wished you never had to tell, best wishes as always for everything you have done for so many E63/E64 owners and of course E31 owners.

Hello Timm, in one of the episodes about the tragedy, you mentioned problems with the headlining and that you had new material to re-do it. I have the drop problem with my anthracite sport headlining and was wondering if you have progressed with this yet? Love watching all the vids, an absolutely invaluable resource for keeping these old girls going.😊

    Hey Timm,
Nice to see that your E31 gets repaired and you looking forward to drive it again! If i had this accident i would also repair it no matter what the insurance tells me! The Guys from the Insurance Company they only see the money not the Work thats done to the car in the time of the Ownership and the Value of the car it self and also the Emotional Value that you self have with the car....
Anyway its good to see it will get repaired and it will be back on the road again soon! 🙂 Keep up the good work!!!!

G'day, many thanks for the detailed postings showing the refurbishment your done in preparation for the major repairs, hopefully you will be able to post some bodyshop footage . Well done Sir in saving your E31. Bloody insurance companies, quick to take the money they are, but slow as a wet week to be responsible to their customer. Cheers.

As the car has been written off, even when it has been repaired, you'll have a Cat category marked against it which will show on an HPI. This will reduce the value. You can sue the third party driver for your consequential loss between what the car was worth pre accident and what its worth post repair. Go and get your money!

Lepsons, Gerry, Wolf - it's a small community where the same names always pop up! Lepsons will have your wheels looking better than new, I've used them lots of times. All those bits you've got from Gerry and Wolf will also transform the ride quality of your car once she's back inaction. Onwards and upwards Timm!

I hope at least the figures add up so that you're broadly neutral after everything is fixed and upgraded from pre crash condition. I guess what the insurance company don't take into consideration is the stress, hassle and above all time that it takes to track down parts, service suppliers; delivering parts for refurbishment; waiting around for parts delivery. Adding it all up it probably takes days and days.

Progressing nicely, I know there is a little bit of a thrill to be getting things back together but shame it happened in the first place, we could have been looking at videos detailing and cleaning, less expensive!!.

Very good luck .I am pretty sure if you strip out what you have showed to replace today and excluding renewed brake and fuel lines you will have enough from the insurance to fix it in a good /reasonable body shop. Otherwise, go somewhere else. I would let Yorkshire car rescue and Salvage rebuilds do this for me . They also know great paint sprayers.

Are those MV2s the right offset for an 8 series? Three series wheels have always had a very different offset from 5/6/7/8 wheels. Glad to see repairs progressing. I removed the sill covers on my E46 and found surface rust under one.

  • @bamboozledsoftware
    @bamboozledsoftware 9 місяців тому +1

I want to ask about your MV2 wheels . I had them on my e91 ( came with the second hand car, since been scrapped ) and also have them on my e64 ( same, came with the second hand car ). My issue is I always have a tyre or 2 that go flat. Some times overnight - pancake. I have bought like 8 extra of these wheels through out the time I owned my e91 (Not originals except 1) and I am just constantly having to put air in 1 or 2 of my tyres everyday. Were talking about from 2018 until 2021 before I got the e64. I haven't bought other wheels for the e64 yet but I'll need to see what happens after I change the tyres for the MOT. So my question is - is this normal for these wheels, are they weak?
I have to add some notes here:- I dont kirb the cars much but the gf kinda does... (hope she doesn't see this, oops). I still dont think thats the reason though.
:- Both cars have/had a bit of a wobble at 50 - 80 mph and don't feel settled at all. I have played about with the tyre pressures.. I suspect guibos or front suspension parts may be the problem.
:- My e91 jacking points all rotted it was a '56 plate the e64 is a '05 but I jacked that e91 up a lot - kinda sad I scrapped it but I think the piston rings had gone at 230,000 miles and with the LEZ'ds and the fact the police pulled me over for the smoke I thought I'd do my self a favour and reduce my time getting cut up and dirty laying under and over engines.
Anyway, thanks for all the videos you make.
TLDR: Are the MV2 wheels just soft and easy to break resulting in reinflating tyres everyday?

Sorry mate after watching this a good amount of times you could've & should've swerved left when you initially hit the brakes and a second later you turned as you noticed he wasn't stopping, i guess slightly your knowledge of right of way kept you going forward but if you knew the amount of damage and time you'd have to put into your car now you would've swerved much more to the left to reduce or miss the knock, i know it sounds silly but if you look when you hit the brakes you had a lot of time to turn

@@TimmsBMWRepairsandInformation Sorry Tim its not clear. Did your insurer write the car off ie make it a cat C/S etc or did they just pay you out the value of the claim and let you retain the car.
On mine they wanted to write it off as a cat C or cat S write off but i convinced them to do a partial payout so that the car has no marker on it.
