If I won that auction of bangles I probably would’ve passed out lol! Omg,there’s so many good ones and thank goodness your friends with Kate-The Queen of Bangles…she’ll never steer you wrong! 🥰🖤🖤🖤
Years and years ago i was given a green wooden bangle from a gf returning from Romania. Never thought I'd miss that thing as much as I do since watching Dagny, Kate and Mike!!😂😢
I learned from a knowledgeable reseller that George the antique Nomad had on a recent video. She said some counterfeit Bakelite will test lightly positive but continue testing and it will come out negative. I think some on the video may have needed more rubbing. Some looked not bakelite to me. I have been around Bakelite a while myself with also furniture hardware and other bakelite items and collect for years as well. Lots of those that were not, are all still very fabulous❣️
You can hear the difference in sound when you clink two bake o lites together and plastic. Bake o lites have a duller tone, Plastic has a higher pitch.
Cool bangles and adorable doggies. Susie wants a bangle, too😂. Thanks for the 409 tip. George, The Antique Nomad was at a show two weeks ago and there was a female vendor with interesting information on Bakelite bangles. I find it kind and generous when folks share their knowledge for anyone to learn. Congratulations on your bangle haul and I hope you make a tidy profit on your sales.
Hi there! Some of them may Catalin...they made brighter colors, opaque white . There's imitation Tortoise Shell ,,, a root beer color ...that's Bakelite..very nice win! How fun***
How cool! Be sure not to leave the 409 on the item. It can discolor the item. I also make sure to do it in a non obvious place on the jewelry. Great score!
Instead of using chemicals, an easier way to test is run under warm to hot water and smell for formaldehyde. It would be interesting to test the obviously plastic bangles and see what happens. 🤷🏻♀️
If you rub Bakelite with your thumb until the item warms up a bit it smells like formaldehyde. No other plastic does that. It’s a good way to test when you’re shopping. I used to buy and sell and this way never failed.
This is how I test mine too. You have some fabulous bangles and I collect them thanks to you and Kate. It's addictive. I would love to know when and where you will sell some of the "special ones". I watch all your videos Dagney and have been a fan a long time.
Quick question: Where are these auctions happening where you can bid on these items? Are they in person or online? Thanks so much for your fun videos!!
You can use semichrome polish to test bakelite too. That's the only way I knew how. But now I learned a new way. Love your videos 😍

How fun! Interesting that 409 gives the diagnosis!!
How adorable your dogs are

That sterling cuff is gorgeous!!! Awesome win love!!

I never knew that’s how you tested to see if it’s Bakelite! ✨ The more you know ✨
That's alot of bangles😮! Never heard of the 409 magic trick.

Also perhaps Casein or Celluloid too!
The 409 doesn't damage them in anyway? I really loved that olive green one!! 💚

So much fun and SOOO MANY BANGLES!!!!!!
Oh I want one so bad!
1-800-bangle queen, so funny!
Hello from Mexico 👋
Wow! Interesting! Thank you Dagney and Kate.
Glad you enjoyed it! ❤️🐷
So many bangles!
who you gonna call? Bug bangle busterrr
Banglequeen was one of my favorite bands in the 80's!

Thanks for the info!
@FlyingPigThrifts you're welcome. I learn so much from you, so thank you too!
Other side of compact, maybe mirror

The 1-800 number! 😂😂😂 This was a fun video, Dagny!

So many beautiful bangles!!!
Thank you so much 😊
Very informative, thank you!

Probably sporadically on upcoming Whatnot sales 🐷
I think the red triangular bangle may be bakelite.
What did I miss what auction 😢?. Have I missed a video?.
This is so awesome. What a wonderful win at the auction.
Was it me or was there something wrong with the audio?
I WANT THEM ALL!!!❤❤❤❤
What a fun video! Also what an amazing auction win. Huzzah! 🥳
Thank you 😁
YAY!!!
To test bakelite baking soda on a damp q-tip rub on the inside of bangle if it turns yellow its real I work with jewelry every day ❤😊😊
Thanks for the tip!🐷
That's a neat trick.
Susie was so cute standing up.
Great video!! Love the whole lot!!
Black bakelite doesn’t test positive like the other colors. The weight (heavy) and style should be factored in with black
Can I ask what is 409? Not seen it in UK.
It’s a household cleaner.
What is in it, so I could look for equivalent?
I have read that Bakelite is never white. Curious as to whether that’s true.
I'm not sure, maybe a question for Kate @followthatbugvintage
I HEARD THAT YOU SHOULD USE CHROME POLISH TO FIND OUT WHETHER AN ITEM IS BAKELITE OR NOT !
Quick question: Where are these auctions happening where you can bid on these items? Are they in person or online? Thanks so much for your fun videos!!
Some are in person and some are online 🐷
You probably should have washed those before testing. Some of your "yellow" looks like dirt to me
❤
CAN'T hear you
