I was stunned to learn that record labels take a 60% cut off of streamed songs. I understand their job is important but when it comes to streaming, they have no physical CD to manufacture/ship to stores! We all have a responsability, but major record labels are clearly the worst offender in the situation.
My music is played worldwide now, thanks to digital distribution. That makes any singer/songwriter happy, including me. However, the new trend of streaming digital music has not yet been addressed by laws. Hence, songwriters are now unable to make a living. It takes one thousand plays to make 9 cents, and one million plays to make $90. Please remember, without songwriters...there is no song.
True streaming is what everyone is doing now on spotify and apple music and countless other sites. Pandora and iheart and we getting paid pennies. It has to change. What will the act do for song writers?
